The Cumbria way. we had a full survival situation on day two!

After months of planning the Cumbria way is finally here. Adam In the wild. / @adaminthewild8915 Camping Dan 85. / @campingdan85 and I start the 75 mile walk from Ulverston to Carlisle. The plan for the first 2 days was to get past Keswick to give ourselves the easiest chance of finishing this challenge and the least amount of miles to do in the second 2 days. The first day was a breeze with a nice frosty start. But at 14:00 on day 1 it started to rain, and didn't stop for over 24 hrs. We walked all of day 2 in the rain, and were soaked to the bone when we reached Stake pass, which is when the wind started! The climb up Stake pass was difficult in those conditions, filming was also difficult. We hoped to get some respite from the weather at the top...No such luck... On reaching the top all the little streams that we should have easily stepped over were full on torrents of rivers 3m to 5m across, and like a maze, we had to throw our rucksacks over and take a running jump to cross, and still landing in the water, sometimes up to our knees, what should have taken 20 minutes, took us 3 hours😳 we did this 4 times up top and a further 3 or 4 times on the way down, we were wet, cold and exhausted 😩 we were then met with flooded paths 1 to 2 ft deep in water, with no way around, already soaked we just trudged through them. We headed into Borrowdale verging on hypothermia and saw the sign for the youth hostel.... what a life saver. We booked in there for the night, we showered, ate and drank. In the morning our kit was dry after a night in the drying room, but our boots were still soaked. So we took advice from family and good friends, and took a rest day and spent a second night in the hostel. What a great day chilling out in the YHA at Borrowdale, I can't recommend this place highly enough, I'd rather stay there than a hotel. fully recharged and dry, we then prepare for 2 more days of hiking to complete our challenge. Right.. finally got round to watching this!! Lol Wow that was some heavy kit fair play lad. Looked amazing with all the frost man those views 😍 Oooh Adam was in for a treat with a Cumberland sausage 😋 I remember you introducing me to my first proper one. Soooo good!! Man that waterfall was nuts when the weather turned on your 2nd day. Will catch up with the inbetween footage on your other upload after this. Think you definitely did the right thing getting in that hostel to sort your stuff out man dont wana be going on your next day with everything soaked through etc. Think that youth hostel was your saviour 🙏🏼 what an epic little place glad you decided to regroup then smash on with it. Cheers mate, yeah I packed way too heavy, I learned that early on 🤣 the frosty views were mint 👌 Adam is bow a Cumberland sausage convert 🤣 day 2 was simply the worst, I don't mind doing admitting I was scared, and that yha definitely saved our lives, and enabled us to continue to the finish 😀 a fantastic experience overall, but full of highs and lows, but loved it all. Blimey, looked pretty bleak. Just had a similar situation, luckily mid August though and not cold or battling with short daylight hours as you were! I can only imagine how worried you'd be getting! The Barrowdale YHA actually turned us away when we arrived, despite just wanting a space on the grass to pitch up, get out of the wet and hang some clothes in the drying room. 10hrs in, in non stop rain, soaked to the skin we ended up having to continue North to get a pitch at the next camp site in Grange. Luckily the sun came out in the morning and a delayed start to the day saw most of our gear dried out. Good decision on taking a rest day but you know you wouldn't of been letting anyone down if you'd decided to pull the plug for your teams safety!

Something went wrong from 20mins for 10 mins of the video had no footage , but in them conditions and being wet right through did the right thing finding that hostel, if u stayed out it would of been a disaster and morale would of hit rock bottom, but finding that place saved the trip by the looks , look forward to the next vid 👍👍

Well done first of all lads ....I think there's about 8 minutes missing it froze 😢.. I'm probably wrong but yous really didn't look like yous had the correct clothing i.e shorts?? Definitely looked a little un prepared...as always though great watch appreciated cheers 🍻

Hi mate, I was wearing shorts. I did have waterproof hiking trousers, after the first day I really struggled with them.. I’m a bit strange, when it comes to shorts, I wear them in all weather 😂 Apart from the shorts we literally had everything else you could think of from all the correct hiking clothing / waterproofs etc & of course medical supplies. Can totally understand why you thought that thought watching it & seeing a guy in shorts in that weather 😂 Hope this helps clear that up mate, and a completely understandable observation on your side.
