Hi Erin, i am a generation x italian lady like you (so we are both young😊), i can only tell you that the love i feel for Robert smith and the cure since 1982 pushed me to learn electric bass at the tender age of 50😊. Robert is a genious (this is undisputable) but his songs would not be unique without gallups distinguished bass inventions, which gave to the cure sounds their typical wonderfully gloomy atmosphere

Hi Laura, thank you so much for writing in and great to "meet" you! I am so happy and excited to meet another woman my age getting into new instruments and songs! You are so right about the importance of The Cure's bass style. Have you heard their new album yet? I was just thinking that "Drone: No Drone" and a couple others have AMAZING bass that would be so fun to play.

Yes, I agree - especially with the new Album coming out ... (like now !!!) the songs are like a big paintings (similar with Rotko`s) - with all the experiences of Life itself ....

Hi Janis! Right, it's out Nov 1... ummm... tomorrow/TODAY!?!? Are you picking up a copy asap? I ordered one... I love the idea of their songs as Rotko paintings. And now you're making me think of Pollack too. Have you heard their new track "Alone," which released prior to the whole album? I've been checking it out and hope to do a video on it soon... Have a great day!

That's good stuff. Drowning Man, Cold, Piggy in The Mirror. What a journey with Just One Kiss. I see Cold taking from Mozart and the closest written in our time. Not to forget a pop song parody of The Beatles of other songs too. Hanging Garden and Charlotte Sometimes also have tones to the same painting. Texture changes over time. Thank you for playing Cold. Happy the man. 😊

Hi Robert! Thank you so much for watching and for sharing your thoughts. I love your point about Charlotte Sometimes, one of my ultimate faves. Hey cool point about Cold invoking Mozart! Maybe that's part of why I gravitate to it. Isn't it so fun watching musicians combine genres? Have a great day!

Interesting aspect explored of how the music represents a feeling. Expressionism highlights feelings imo. The cure hardwired feelings into all their tracks. Certainly the stronger tracks and definitely the earlier stuff. The sound on Faith for instance brings depth. Particularly on the original vinyl. I’d suggest that’s also representative of the expressionist approach. Imo.

Hi Kenneth! Thanks for commenting and sharing your insights. I love your point about The Cure "hardwiring feelings into their tracks," so true. And totally agree about Faith. The minute I read Lol's words about Expressionist paintings and The Cure's songs focusing on emotional experience, three songs flew into my head: All Cats are Gray, The Drowning Man, and The Funeral Party. To me, those songs truly feel like they're showing the inner experience or the interior world and expressing it through sound. Love it!!!
