I’m 75, first got hooked in the 80’s. My musician friends got stuck in their roots but I was always open to new music. I loved the 3 C’s: The Cure, The Clash and The Call. Robert Smith is kind of a musical genius. Can’t get enough of A Forest!
@kasnijhuis676 Жыл бұрын
I was there. My sister and I stood in front of the stage almost the entire time and both our legs were aching of standing the whole day at the festival so we decided to go sit on the side somewhere and share a large beer. The sun had just set and it started getting darker as the stage turned green and they started to play A Forest. My sister came back with the beer. We passed the beer over and over, took a sip each turn and quietly listened to them pumping those beautiful chords out into the field as Robert Smith's voice started to sound more magical the deeper we got sucked into the moment. Even me thinking about this moment still gives me goosebumps. Best performance I have ever seen!

“Timeless” ... are you serious?! It’s played on instruments only available in the last fifty years, using technology only really used and popular in the last 30yrs in a style that is inherently of the pop music era since. If you think they did something original with those tools, fair enough and there’s no accounting for taste - I don’t really know enough about their music to say more than seeming to be relatively unoriginal, however popular it may in a niche kind of way. What is beyond doubt, though, is you hear it start and it dates itself to no more than the last 30yrs purely by what it’s played on! You wouldn’t confuse with Bach or Beethoven, would you, even if you’d never heard it before?!

Disappointing @Manchester 2016, so many there seemed to be lost when they played songs like 100 Years. Even Robert said that the crowd seemed to be a 'Hits Only' crowd. Personally it's the most visceral live version I have heard of 100 years since I first seen them on the HOTD Tour. Noticed that in the last 2 years you can actually hear Reeves guitar, louder in the mix. Much better
