I wanted to buy a 1980 Pinto panel wagon from a guy about 25 years ago. It was in nice shape even the paint was pretty good. All it needed to actually drive it was a transmission. It was a 4 speed manual or could easily be converted to an automatic. It was a cool little car orange/ wood sticker on the sides. Had a little round moon window in the upper rear corner. I offered the guy way more than it was worth at the time $1500.00. He wouldn't sell it because he said that it was his retirement project. Yep it's still sitting in the same spot it was 25 years ago. Now it's pretty much worthless and too far gone to do anything with.

When I was a teenager (early 90s) , I stopped by this dude's house to ask about a car in his front yard. Amongst a bunch of other stuff, was a B-5 Blue, stripe delete 69 Super Bee. The last inspection sticker on it was 1980. He said he was going to fix it up for his wife. I drove by the place last week and in the middle of what must be 20 times more junk, I can just see the roof of that same Super Bee sitting in that same spot. I wouldn't give the guy 5k. Likely the only thing salvageable is the VIN and maybe the glass. The car has sat in the mud for so many years the floor, sub frames rear quarters and rocker panels are probably beyond hope. Why do people do this to cars? My dad would be shitting his pants right now. This is the kind of cars he loved to build. He always wanted something different. Maybe that's why I want to build a 63 A body wagon with a 354 or 331 Hemi. No one on the block has one of those. I love your channel and wish my dad was still alive to see it. He was a dingsman at the Chrysler plant in Belvidere Illinois. He was a first hire when the plant opened in 65. He fixed what broke on the line. I still have some of the tools he made to fix the cars. I use his plastic hammer to cast bullets. Not what it was intended to be used for but I'm using it. Yeah I thought so too but I'll tell you something I learned about valve timing it's for a professional engine builder to fool with playing with crankshaft and cam timing can destroy an engine quick or make you scratch your head till your baldheaded if you don't understand it I thought someone had stole my rearend gear and changed it from a 567 to 650 and all I did was retard the cam needless to say I put the cam back where it was and presto it was an engine and race car again live and learn some of us got heads like concrete and have to learn the hard way 😬😬😬😬😬😬😬

Other points of interest: The hole to the right of the park brake release knob was for the manual choke pull. The voltage regulator on the firewall is usually mounted where the two ground wires are, but had to be moved towards the center of the car to clear the air filter on the rear carb in a Max Wedge application. Dash cluster is completely wrong as well.

Without the original Max Wedge engine this is pretty much a worthless car, so it really isn`t worth restoring.

@@MICKSS350 That is a correct assumption and about 95% of what I have personally exp. I mean some ppl will build the body back knowing the car is nowhere road worthy anymore. I have seen that done. There was a 1960's flat nose Ford Van a friend bought took it home. It belonged to a local news station where his father used to work and his father had drove the van daily in the 60's into the 70's. The station had it out back in a parking lot for many years until he got ahold of it. Considering it was always sitting in a huge puddle most of it's life the frame was mostly gone but he restored the body and frame best he could. I have seen those things done.

My brother and I just finished a '61 pontiac catalina bubbletop, PHS docs, Cali built car in way better condition.The only stuff we farmed out was interior, trans, engine machining- we built the engine, rear axle........ Still $70'000 large DONE CORRECTLY, No half ass restoration in a spray can. He might wanna call the mopar guru from graveyard restorations,or you have already bought the car tony because that is a piece of american history that needs to be saved.... Correctly. My grandfather was an engine guy who would actually get shit like this done. After he retired he decided to build an engine in his garage, bought and built everything within a few months and had it running before he passed. From scratch to finished in under a year, just to hear the sound of his old race engine again.

Great video UT!!! I’ve been lucky enough to meet Mr. Norm super nice guy. It’s amazing what they were doing during that time in the early 60’s I worked with an old man that owns a max wedge. He said it ran 11’s in 1963 and he daily the car back in the day.

It’s a recurring story: old coot emotionally attached to interesting car that he watches turn into feO2 over several decades. Coot dies. Family sells property. Scrapper comes to collect junk for recycling. As I drive through rural Texas I see this all the time. Cars that once upon a time could have been brought back to life, now just useless hulks waiting for the day they are dragged off giving no value to anyone. People who own stuff like this just LOVE the attention these cars gain for them. If the local laws forced them to store them out of sight, they’d lose the only reason they want to keep them around because there would no one left to knock on his door or make his phone ring! They love telling the same ole stories and seeing how much people want to own what they have. Maybe the stories are true, maybe not. The grandkids and the auction house will be the ultimate winners, and a few people will part with a ton of money to own this stuff.
