Please seriously consider a long leash. Especially when our dogs get older... they need extra protection. ❤ And may I recommend talking to your local law enforcement, just in case. They may have had other complaints about "suspicious behavior". The more information shared.... the safer everyone is! Never underestimate the good, or bad, in other people. Both of you stay safe. ❤🐕❤ And warm!! 😊

Reading the comments makes me sad for all the women who don't feel safe out and about in their own countryside. It's the same way all over the world, unfortunately. I'm 76 and as a child, I roamed the rural areas of my hometown in the Panhandle of Florida on my horse and never had a scary experience. I never felt unsafe or threatened in any way. Staying out all day and coming home at dark. I grieve for the wonderful freedom we all used to feel and enjoy. God willing, there will come a time again when that is possible. Peace and love to you all.

@@barbarahanson1360 I always try to be as insignificant as I can if I’m approaching a woman on her own. I make a point of moving slightly away without making it obvious. I also try a disarming smile and a cheery hello. I quite often turn to interact with Molly. It’s such a shame that women feel vulnerable. Most of us are nice people, but there are always bad apples.

Oh, that must've been a terrible experience for you and for Molly , Nigel. I'm so glad you found her and you're both OK. I once lost my Pomeranian when I was at a friend's house in Halifax and I was extremely upset and worried, but someone had found her, and we got her back, thankfully. I don't have her now, it was years ago. But I do understand how desperate you must have felt. I thought maybe you could get Molly a harness and one of those extending leads, because she's an old lady and you're not up to running around looking for her with your health issues. I always used harnesses on my dogs because I don't like attaching a lead to their collar, it felt cruel pulling them along with the neck, so harnesses are much nicer. Please stay safe 🙏 ❤

I’m so thankful that Molly finally came to you. Maybe the guy just wasn’t paying attention. She is tiny, and he could have picked her up if he wanted to take her away….you’re right that you will never know. A few years ago, I stopped at a rest stop in Virginia. When I came out of the bathroom, I saw a lady with my dog on a leash. I knew that I left my dog in the car, but I couldn’t remember if I had locked the car. So I ran after her screaming “Stop!!!” The lady stopped and looked at me terrified. I told her she had my dog! Then I heard barking from my car, and Lucky (my dog) was watching me from my car. The lady then laughed and said I gave her quite a scare. But the two dogs looked almost the same. She went over and met Lucky…everything was fine, but I will never forget the panic I felt when I saw someone walking off with my fur baby! Boudicca had nothing on me that day!! I was a warrior protecting my own. ☺️

I had a few scary experiences with lone men in the area Nigel walks. My daughter really didn't like me walking my dog there alone. She bought me an attack alarm to carry with me. I know of other women dog walkers who also had frightening experiences up there. One was chased by a man who threatened to stab her dog. As beautiful as it is, I wouldn't feel safe walking in places like that now that I'm older. There's some very weird folk about.
@VintageJoBeth3 күн бұрын
@ my gosh how terrifyingly awful. Its a real shame, as I’d love to go out walking but I’ve read/heard of so many scary things like this it makes the whole experience unpleasant as you end up scared of every little noise etc rather than enjoying it. We all need to feel safe and be safe. Hugs to you, and all the women and elderly vulnerable walkers and really even the stronger ones…none of us immune from these awful folk spoiling it all 💕
@kathavalon193 күн бұрын
Hello JoBeth, I think a lot of my friends feel vulnerable walking alone in the countryside. We were talking about it and wondering why it worries us far more than when we were young. We decided it's because we can't run like we used to, nor are we as strong. So I never walk my dog in the fields or woods on my own now.
@VintageJoBeth3 күн бұрын
@ yes that is so true. We do realise our vulnerability more as we get older and less invincible than our younger years! I have found that being a member of national trust helps a great deal as I do feel very safe walking in those places. But I really would think twice/thrice… many times(!) before walking in general public parks etc. hugs to you. 🤗

Hi JoBeth, I feel exactly as you do, Nigel’s experience was really scary and I totally get it but I rarely take my dog to the beautiful countryside due to fear, a few times I have ventured to places of beauty as is it wonderful to get away from society but then the feelings of absolute terror when coming across man without a dog, it’s just not worth it. So glad everything worked out for Nigel and Molly, hope everyone stays safe 🥰

Nigel, this is so shocking. I know exactly how you felt. We used to have a Jack Russell and he went missing in the woods when we were walking on a winter afternoon. Dusk was falling. We called and called him but he didn't appear. When it was nearly dark he found us. What a relief. I remember a dog was stolen from outside a shop near where we were living then. I knew the owner. A couple of weeks later the dog was found about 50 miles away and it had been covered in some sort of tar. Can you imagine? Why would someone do that? It had to have all it's fur shaved off and was apparently a nervous wreck. I'm so glad you're both ok. You need a warm fire and a nice glass of red. Peace and love.
@primalengland3 күн бұрын
Ha! Funny you should mention the red. I’m just off out for a bottle. It wasn’t a nice experience. Being able to see her was so frustrating. I think perhaps the lad just had headphones in and if Molly was behind him he just didn’t see her. No malice aforethought, but not something I want to go through again. 😊❤️🐕🦺🐾

I’m so sorry this happened to you both. I’m shaking now, even though I could see Molly paddling behind you my heart was in my throat. I had a similar experience once many years ago, and your story brought it all back like it was yesterday. My girl was 13 and disappeared over night at -27 C. She got lost because of the piles of snow everywhere, wandered down the road and ended up at a nearby horse stables. She came back in the morning covered in straw, and I nearly hugged her to death. That was nearly 20 years ago, but the love we feel for our pets never leaves us. So glad your story has a happy ending. ❤️🇨🇦

What a horrible experience Nigel I feel for you, an exhausting experience . That seems a bit sinister to me, very odd behaviour by that person. You are going to have to be on your guard from now on. Get yourself a very loud whistle and accustom her to it a few times at home in your garden . I know she doesn’t like a coat but what a light weight luminous harness so that she stands out better, could you attach some bells to her collar so that you are more aware of where exactly she is. Let’s hope it was just an isolated incident .

So scary! Glad you got her back. My little Honey went deaf, and I had to stop letting her off the lead, because occasionally, she would lose sight of me by looking in the wrong direction, and head off after someone in the distance. She was old and deaf, and her eyes started failing, but she could still run! I would be right behind her, and then running down the path after her, no point in calling. Hope nothing like that ever happens to you again.
@primalengland3 күн бұрын
I think she may have just absentmindedly wandered after the first person she saw after surfacing from one of her sniffing marathons. I’m glad we have the tracker. She’s back to normal, now. Snoring in front of the fire after a bowl full of chicken and ham. 😊❤️🐕🦺

I know exactly how you felt Nigel! My Ruby was a brilliant dog but she was a little nervous. We were out one day and neither of us heard the bloke on a bike approaching from behind. I can't tell you the relief when she eventually ran back towards me.

Oh Nigel! I could see you reliving every moment of that experience as you told us about it. I'm so pleased to learn that you're both OK and am happy to see you jumped straight back into the saddle, as the saying goes. It would be so easy to decide that these walks are too stressful and risky to continue based on that event. The lad was probably in his own world, phones in his head, and only vaguely aware of a dog and some random bloke yelling in the distance. He might even have been telling his pals about an odd thing that happened in the park yesterday. Whatever, Molly is in fine fettle and you seem to have recovered... so all is good. Cheers👍🏼
@aderpaul0072 күн бұрын
I agree with you whole heartedly regarding dog theft Nigel, we are always very aware whilst out walking our dog . Could it have been a language barrier between you and that lad ? Also he may have been lost himself, hence looking at Google maps on his phone? Hence his erratic behaviour with his walking? . Also the dressed in black thing is a young person's kind of fashion statement, I've seen lots of young men dressed that way, I'm not sure if he was out to steal Molly as I think ( by your description) he wouldn't have given you a chance to get her back . Dogs when they get old , like us , can become confused, believe it or not we had a small black dog called Molly ( A Lhasa Apso) she would sometimes wander off and follow random people, old age unfortunately affects eyes, ears , sense of smell. It must have been awful for you Nigel , I do sympathise greatly. Sending love from Norfolk ♥️😃

I’ve given it some thought, and think that if he had earbuds in and Molly was behind him he wouldn’t have seen her. Also Molly is more concerned about sniffing, and could easily have thought she was following me. I’ll just have to keep an eye on her more.

Our dog had a sniffing marathon on a windy beach. As she looked up I called her, but the wind was in the wrong direction and she couldn’t hear me even though she wasn’t that far. Instead she saw someone in the distance in the opposite direction, clearly thought it was me and took off. I was running through sand as fast as I could. Calling her and my lungs and legs were burning from running. She ran up to the car park which was a steep sandy slope. I got to the car park and couldn’t see her, I could hardly breathe I’d been running so hard. The panic was overwhelming. I felt sick to my stomach and my heart was beating out of my chest. I was asking everyone have you seen a dog, have you seen a dog? Then a guy pointed and said ‘is that your dog’. Yep, she had gone to the beach cafe and was trolling around the people sat at the tables, scrounging for treats whilst waiting for me to find her. Only missing for probably 15 minutes, and the longest, scariest 15 minutes of my life. Glad Molly is safe, and it sounds like a misunderstanding rather than anything sinister, but the panic is still the same. My heart is pounding just remembering the incident. We love our fur kids so much, the very thought of losing them is just indescribable. Peace and Love my friend. ❤

Unfortunately there are increasing incidents like this in parks and out of if the way areas. It's a sad indictment of the times we live in, but your wee dog is so precious to you that maybe taking some extra precautions wiuld not only help you both emotionally but also help to prevent that physical exertertion which could be detrimental to your health.♥️

Sorry to hear of your encounter. Perhaps the fella was just an out of place walker, if he really wanted your dog he would have probably had a lead and been away with Molly. If he had his head in his mobile he more than likely had his ear pods in too and so didn't respond to you. I totally understand your panic, I once had a very loyal dog who was part of the family. Nigel let Molly run around for a while but stand still and watch her please buy a retractable leash for her they can be quite long so she would have some freedom but then you can pull her in if you have too it might save both of your lives neither of you needs that kind of stress stay safe much love from Canada 🇨🇦

Glad this ended up alright, but it was a close one. You dont expect it as much in the countryside but you still have to stay vigilant at certain times, I am sure text that took away your attention could have waited a few seconds. 👍

I think he might just have had headphones on and didn’t see her, but it was like he was shadowing us beforehand. You never know in this crazy world. 😊❤️🐕🦺

My Labrador used to get confused when he got older and would sometimes follow other males instead of me as his eyesight got poorer. Could this possibly be happening to Molly? Non dog owners are not particularly aware of what dogs may be following them and even when I used to shout my dog’s name they would just look and then keep on walking even with my dog right next to them. I guess that this lad wouldn’t have known what was going on. Someone stealing dogs wouldn’t be interested in an old dog like Molly, they would take a younger dog as they’re much more saleable once they’ve cut the microchip out of the dog’s ruff. Hope this helps.

So sorry you had to go through that. He might've just been a dozy pillock but you never know. Idiots on every corner.

I wonder if a whistle would have helped. My brother always takes one with him when he walks his dog.

Maybe since Mollie is getting up in age, maybe it's time to get Mollie a doggy cart, I'm 63 and have had dogs my whole life, the last one a great pryrnesa was 14 with cancer, so I could go on since I was 12 when my first friend/dog was a akeata, my experience has been some even get doggy dementia, I'm sure we will feel much safer watching Molly being pushed around with a doggy cart, I had one a little bit like yours, a pom, that got tired after 30 minutes, anyhow just My thoughts, peace and love my friend.

I’ve got one. I got it when her arthritis was bad, but it seems to be better with treatment. I put her in it once and she immediately jumped out. It was alarming. I did a video where I mentioned it briefly kzbin.info/www/bejne/mHi6lHh4l76jbc0si=29Dm3WLo47iUUNhD I think she is ok as far as dementia is concerned, but she gets so involved in sniffing. She can spend 10 minutes in one spot. I think she loses track of what she’s doing and this time she followed the first person she saw. People have said in the past that I look like I think I’m being followed, but I’m just keeping my eye on Molly. The buggy is still in the back of the car. I think we will need it at some point. 🐕🦺🐾

It was a frighting experience, I am glad lovely Molly is safe and you have recovered. I would like you to consider that this lad may be autistic. If he wanted to steal Molly he would have ran off with her. It seems as if he was not aware of you or Molly. As for him wearing black, I think this is the uniform of all teenagers. Have you considered one of those dog leads that pull out to a long line. Dogs off the lead can do a lot of damage to the environment. I wish you well.

You probably tell women not to dress in "provocative" stuff so they don't get attacked as well. Pillock.
