I think the underwhelming sales and streams of her new album show how little relevance she had nowadays... Which is ok! The problem is that she doesn't seem to accept that, which only makes things worse. What people saw as an icon, they now see as desperate. A great example of someone who handled this better is Mariah Carey. Her most recent album would be considered a flop, but because she handles it all with grace and acceptance, she's still perceived as a high status icon. No one cares that her album didn't do well - because she doesn't act desperate about it.

Ben Affleck has spoken about his past substance abuse problems. I feel like he's someone who can't really "put on" the celebrity persona the way other celebrities can, or learned to. I think it's also interesting to track his career - he was an actor in his teens, and then truly hit the big time when he won the Best Original Screenplay Oscar for Good Will Hunting alongside Matt Damon, whom he also co-starred with in that movie. But then, I think he wasn't really able to fit into the leading man mold, despite having conventionally handsome looks, especially in the late-90s and early-2000s. A lot of his star vehicles didn't fully work, things like Daredevil, Gigli and Paycheck, and those happened very close to each other and he got ridiculed for it. Then he focused on more dramatic roles and started directing, and gained quite a bit of acclaim for directing movies like Gone Baby Gone, The Town and Argo, and it seemed like he had completed a redemption arc. Then he was cast as Batman in the DC Extended Universe, and was caught up in the behind-the-scenes tumult of that franchise, which also aggravated his drinking and he said in interviews that his friend voiced their concern that if Ben continued playing Batman, he would drink himself to death. So I think those ups and downs in his career are also a factor in how the public perceives him and projects onto him, as he said in the interview with Kevin Hart.

My biggest issue with J.Lo is her co-opting the Bronx to elevate herself while NEVER using her own name to elevate the Bronx. Theres an epidemic of violence happening in the Bronx - my 16 year old little brother was shot and killed in the Bronx two fucking weeks ago in front of a bodega - and instead of using her millions to try and do something, literally ANYTHING, to help, she blows it all on a self indulgent, ego boosting, shitty ass movie/music video/album and failure of a world tour.
@HobieInTheBox6 ай бұрын
The fact that we just discussed Ben Afflec mentioning people project their emotions onto him, to then giving a CLEAR example of people doing that to JLo with the whole bodega thing, is astonishing to me. I'm not 100% defending JLo, however the bodega BS is stupid to me and imo people are getting way too upset about it. She mentioned an orange drink that was unbranded, unlabelled, and came in a plastic container. Iykyk was for the people who might've gotten the same unlabelled bottle of orange juice/drink that she did. There's pictures of it, it suddenly makes sense when you see it bc it's literally unlabelled. Wtf else is she supposed to call it? People are getting seriously mad over this? Get a hobby dude
@NotAnotherKuromi6 ай бұрын
I agree people are being overly picky and wanting to be mean to her for small things. However I think one of the reasons is that they see it as a small example of a bigger issue. Like she wasn't precise in her order, as most regular people would be, this could be because she couldn't think on the spot (although I have heard rumours those house tour interviews give all the celebs the questions beforehand.) But it could also be because she is so rich that she hasn't even been into a corner shop to buy a snack for herself in years, if not decades, so doesn't even know what to say to sound relatable. She might have been too busy concentrating on not to say she likes idk kale crisps, caviar and champagne, that she didn't say something more down to earth. Then add in that she said something so incredibly generic about crisps and seemed to follow it up with a another generic sounding drink, I can see why people didn't realize that the drink was actually a more precise example. Out of interest do you know of the orange drink is still sold? Or was it just something common when she was younger?
@HobieInTheBox6 ай бұрын
@@NotAnotherKuromi if I understand correctly, people eventually figured out which brand of drink it was. However it's entirely possible the bodega just resold it unlabelled, which happens often enough in food business. So yes it's potentially still being sold but as a different brand, maybe the recipe has changed all these decades later. It's up to the people atp. I think people need to stop gasping at straws with this one and focus their energy on critiquing the more blatant issues there are.

People really need to criticize this? Nope. We're still who we were, at least part of us is. We revisit our early years for various reasons, remembering good times and struggles. To me JLo has felt out of reach, like the pro we admire who stands above the rest, impeccable, especially at red carpet events. She's not accessible like many current stars are, especially those who started on KZbin. Idk her intentions with her recent work. If she's trying to become accessible or share parts of her life, that's cool but maybe also awkward. We don't judge others with longtime careers and fame this way, such as Bon Jovi, Ben Affleck and others who get to keep their heritage. But JLo shares hers and we bash her for it. Not cool.

Also, the documentary about her not-movie-musical made me think he was incredibly embarrassed by and for her, but was doing his best (in a taciturn man way) to be publicly supportive of her. @mcp0y36 ай бұрын
The thing is, that Jlo was an icon that was also put in the same category as Mariah Carey, Beyonce, Christiana Aguilera.... And, although JLo works probably harder than all of those icons, talent wise, she does not even come close to a comparison. Even when they compare her to Shakira. Shakira did a slight crossover into the English world for a very short period of time. But she still dominates charts in the Latino billboards. She's still very relevant in the Latino billboards, and has always put out albums and songs and is absolutely adored and respected in the Latino Billboards. Her ex-husband, Marc Anthony is another one that although he did the English crossover once, what people don't realize is that till this day he's still very relevant in the Latino billboards. JLo just does not compare to the icons that she's been compared to. But yet she wants the same type of respect and recognition. And it's like you can't have it when you don't have the same talent of the people that you're being compared to. Everyone can collectively agree that she is a hard worker. And that she puts in a lot of effort in all the work that she puts out. But even with all the hard work, a lot of what she puts out just comes out as mediocre. Her time of prime has long sailed. And she still doesn't understand that doing more and being in the limelight as much as she is is not helping her gain that respect that she's so longs for.

I don’t know how to feel because it’s always been known like really always been known that J-lo is a huge b-word to not just fans but people she works with. Narcissistic.

In Australia we have things like a fish & chip shop combined with a small convenience store, so I'm guessing it's something like that?

You're channel is great, and I came on here thinking you'd say something nice about her, but its negative. You're so awesome, I don't understand why you don't like her. JLo is amazing.

J lo tries too hard. At this point she really doesn’t have to anymore, but the point that she still does makes her appear so needy.

She certainly seems to be a bit of a peach. Gotta be honest, he seems a bit of hard work as well. I'd have to agree with you on him being who I considered the more powerful LA player of the two - but JLo was my jam back in the day so I'm disappointed with the clips from the documentary - that she has a personality which thought it was a good idea to create the documentary. And a lot of the stories of her being cruel and mean-hearted to other women and any poor service worker who crossed her path - that doesn't shout good person to me.

The shows were cancelled due to low ticket sales. Please. She wouldn’t let ANYTHING get between her and a full stadium. I hope both of them are okay, for their kids. Divorce is hard enough.

Ben is all of DC and Marvel and View Askew and Jennifer is a former Icon. If she really wanted to pay homage to her roots in New York she would play a free stadium concert thanking the city and the fans for making her famous. I live in California and I see a free show at least once a month on account of all the bands that came out of where I'm from. When I lived in North Florida I went to see Yellowcard do a free show at a large venue there for the fans since they're from Jacksonville. Jennifer Lopez is so unbelievably out of touch that something as simple as doing what those ahead of her have done in order to breathe new life into their fan base is so off the docket for her bc she'd never do anything if she wasn't getting paid.

To be totally fair to jlo, I grew up in a city where my family lived for 5 generations but the entire population/demographic changed so almost all of us moved out. Once all the families who felt attached to the city left due to crime, gang violence and corrupt politics, everything changed and you recognize almost no one. If someone went to my original "block" very few would recognize me, not because I'm not from there, but because the new residents aren't.

Are we forgetting the fact that she's probably "taking time off to be with her children, family and close friends" before she has to answer for that (alleged) nightclub shooting with Diddy from back in the day?

Uh, no. Ben was literally Batman! Besides that he's a successful actor, writer (Good Will Hunting) director (Argo), producer (Air). If Ben Affleck is in something i know it's gonna be somewhat good (even the best actirs can't help a shitty script or post production edit). Ben has a career after JLo. She doesn't. She doesn't have her acting career, her singing career, or her beauty line.

I think a lot of people forget her age so on that level some grace needs to be shown but it just goes to show it’s been so long since she’s been on the “block” that the order is irrelevant now. That was decades ago.
