@MissGoElectric it's a bit more complicated than that. At this point, In general though, our societies need to do everything we can to discourage the expansion of fossil fuel infrastructure and introduction of new greenhouse gas emitting devices as we retire such things as early as possible and crucially to this channel, replace them with the valid alternatives. Governments need to encourage the electrification of as many industries as possible (and the expansion of a carbon clean electricity grid), especially transportation. It's too late for a hands off approach... also, no approach is ever truly hands off in practice. So we need to be as deliberate as possible to these ends, to preserve as much life and civilization as possible.

We know that DC Fast Charging is part of the puzzle. We think convenient Level 2 charging in locations where vehicles are naturally parked is the secret. The average EV driver uses a public DC Fast charger 3-4 days per year. -Producer Tim

Each week Aptera investors ask us to cover the company. We are not willing to put our viewers at risk by appearing to validate or accredit Aptera. They've gone out of business once since being founded in 2006. We were original reservation holders more than 15 years ago when they failed to deliver. They unveiled the Gamma prototype in the booth next to ours two years ago at the Fully Charged Live Show in San Diego. We interacted with it, but we did not publish coverage. Miss GoElectric and I say right next to company leader Chris Anthony for hours at a dinner that week. He was perfectly cordial, but we did not broach the topic of cooperating with Aptera. Why? Aptera is consistently soliciting investment from regular people. There are many tactics and instruments being relentlessly deployed by the company. We think there is little transparency into their spending and operations for our comfort level. They consistently publish marketing videos reporting on project development and asking for more money. I watch those videos and see many warning signs. The pace of progress is slow and the reliance on outside entities is high. We will continue to remain informed, but we do not plan to cover their product when they begin delivering to non-investors or some large structural change improves our trust and confidence in the company. -Producer Tim

Trump & cohorts will kill off the huge expansion of public-charging infrastructure that we’ve seen in 2024 that resulted mostly from the fabulous federal infrastructure act … that money will be siphoned off for spacex, a wall along the Mexican border, etc.
@MissGoElectricКүн бұрын
@dan A minority of current high speed charging infrastructure development in the USA is taxpayer/government projects. Rapid expansion will continue. Today's best EVs can easily go anywhere in the Continental USA with the existing 60,000 public charging locations. We do not perceive any threat to EV adoption as a result policy changes which may (or may not) take place with a new politician moves into the White House. Humans want the best product at the best price. Electric transportation fits the bill for most drivers today. EV capabilities and affordability continue to improve, internal combustion does not. The horse had a 5,000 year run as a primary form of transportation. Internal combustion will fade away less than 200 years from its debut in 1855. I should not take the bait...but I'm gonna: Did you know that Tesla is I've of the largest bid winners building publuc charging infrastructure for the NEVI program? On average they install dispensers for less than half the cost of competitors. Connecting the dots...why would that money get diverted to SpaceX? The US space budget is lower now than ever because SpaceX can deliver government loads to orbit at a 90% discount compared to the American and Russian suppliers who have been contracted to get the job done for the last 70 years. Why have you suggested that terrestrial infrastructure funds will be diverted to expand space spending? -Producer Tim

Suggestion: a stat or a number has almost 0 value if it is not put into context. Eg. What is the meaning that Ford sold more Mustang Mach E? Well they reduced prices greatly to sell off old inventory and took about a 30k/40k loss on each one. So the more they sold, the more they lost. Contrast that with Tesla who makes about 16% profit on every EV they sell. So in context how much did Ford lose in EVs in 2024 and how much did Tesla make..... a staggering difference. Also reading stat after stat, number after number, no one listening will remember all the numbers, why not put them into a chart at the end where people can see the different numbers side by side to have a better visual showing how big the gaps are in different companies. Plus things like sure Rivian beat sales numbers.... uh the revised / lowered production number, and they made how much in 2024? Oh right the company is still in the red. Maybe a chart that show EV sales AND EV profit or loss all on the same chart would be a good thing to see. And no hybrids. Pure EVs.

I watch The Electric Viking, Brighter with Herbert, Farzad, Electrified, Solving The Money Problem, FutureAZA, and I watch all these plus more to get different points of view, different information, etc. I was watching your video today to see if I should include your channel as well. As for your "10 min" comment, your video length wouldn't be any longer showing a graph of all companies production numbers as you go through each 1 by 1, as opposed to you showing the numbers individually 1 by 1, the time you spend talking on the subject wouldn't need to change at all. And IMO understanding the information you are putting out is more important that the information itself. So a company made 1 million vehicles.... so what? Did their volume go up / down, what was their margin, is the company in the red or green, are the companies COGS coming down, how many models does the company make? All of this is important. And I am not saying you NEED to include everything, what I am saying is a number by itself doesn't actually inform your audience the way you may think it does.

Q4 is typically the strongest quarter for the automotive business regardless of powertrain type. Remember, the Osbourne effect is working against Tesla. In the USA, Tesla sells more than it's 20+ EV competitors *combined*. As goes Tesla... So goes the entire North American EV industry. The upcoming Model Y and affordable models were a deterrent to informed EV buyers in Q4. Tesla offered unprecedented incentives in Q4 to stoke and satisfy record demand. We reported on 0% financing, FSD transfer, and unlimited supercharging. They also offered free upgrades on the Model X and doubled referral discounts across the board. In our view, consumer urgency based on potential future policy changes is a factor, but it is not THE factor. @@MissGoElectric that is interesting. Maybe do a video about the protectionist policies in the US and Europe? Are you referring for instance to the « chicken tax » in the US? I am guessing that example should affect all vehicles equally? In an ideal world, there should be subsidies for neither one of the technologies, neither ICE nor electric. Neither should there be subsidies for the refueling process of cars, be that a liquid or electricity. But if there are protectionist hurdles in place that favor one over the other, please report on it. In the meantime I continue to drive my BMW i3s, that I enjoy since 2017. A keeper! Cheers

I thought consumers didn’t want EVs? At least that’s what Ford and Chevy said.😂
@MissGoElectric2 күн бұрын
Consumers don't buy the worst products at uncompetitive prices. That rule applies to any category of commerce. The survival of Ford, GM, and Stellantis is absolutely dependent on gradual EV adoption and about $100B of US government subsidies. Some are visible and most are behind the scenes. We have reported on all of it. Thanks for joining us! -Producer Tim

@MissGoElectric why can't legacy auto -(other than maybe Kia and Hyundai) make a lower price profitable and compelling EV?
@MissGoElectricКүн бұрын
In the USA, independent franchise dealerships are a significant added cost. Their distribution channel is legally entrenched and currently earns 50% of their revenue with service and maintenance. EVs do not generate that revenue. Incentives do not align. There are other factors, too. They started 10 years later than global EV leaders, so there is an innovation gap. They buy crucial components from suppliers which is much more costly in the long run than vertically integrating like Tesla and China's best EV automakers. Legacy automakers which currently manufacturer combustion vehicles are also commiting an act of cannibalism when they effectively market EV superiority. They are careful to bend slowly because a rapid EV revolution would spell their demise. Legacy automakers successfully lobbied government for protectionist policies which have effectively limiting competition, buying them some time to catch up. -Producer Tim

Of course, the real unseen winners are those automakers who sell enough EVs to be complaint and/or make a profit selling them. Other yardsticks would be the targets the automakers and the pro-EV has set for themselves, like 50% CAGR, 20M/year run rate as soon as 2028, tipping points and S-curves. Elephants and rooms.

It's a long road to scale which enables profitability. Legacy players are in a tough spot when it comes to overall profitability. For them success with EVs necessarily diminishes their own ICE scale and profitability. Every time they win, they lose. They have to bend slowly or they will break. They are as brittle as their investor's are short sighted. Several legacy OEMs have tried to get around that truth with ICE/EV shared platforms. Associated functional and efficiency compromises generally render those models uncompetitive. LiAuto, Tesla, and BYD are the only brands making EVs profitably at an organizational level. Three out of 150+ EV brands is all the evidence we need to see these are still early days. The path to widespread EV adoption is viable. In Norway, almost 90% of new automobiles are fully electric. In China more than 14% are fully electric. We are down at 8%. This year we expect CATL, BYD, XPENG, NIO, Tesla, LiAuto, Xiaomi, Changa, Chery, Geely, and SIAC are going to squeeze. They can voluntarily take margins close to zero in order to clear the field. We expect at least 50 automakers to be decimated and erased within the next three years. Several more legacy automakers will retreat...huddling together in joint ventures. I don't expect those bureaucratic behemoths to out-innovate or out-maneuver the new guard of clean-sheet EV OEMs with a ten year head start. -Producer Tim

A great video as always, but like other people's there's too much emphasis on unit sales and not enough on profitability. You can't lose money on every sale and make up for it with volume. GM and Ford need to up EV production by more than 20x to potentially match Tesla's efficiency of scale of today. They gave up first mover advantage, let their quality decline in ICE, priced themselves out of the most profitable markets, and are now playing "me too" with huge handicaps.

This is a weekly electric transportation news show covering policy, technology, EV adoption trends, micromobility, and more. If you are an investor looking for financial accounting for every EV automaker I would recommend you look into a finance-centric outlet. Even when you find that resource, you'll need a lot more than a single episode. Besides, no automaker has shared 2024 or Q4 financials. No outlet has that data right now. -Producer Tim

Tesla has remained the global EV leader for more than a decade by almost every metric. It's wonderful to see one American company in the top 10 around the world. Chinese automakers will likely surpass Tesla by volume within the next year or two. Tesla's energy storage, Robotaxis, and Optimus humanoid programs might well keep them on top in terms of market capitalization. To your point, much of that capital is dependent upon confidence in corporate leadership. -Producer Tim
