The gentlemen's agreement wasn't because there's a statue of William Penn on top of City Hall, it was because at the time it was completed, City Hall was the tallest building in the entire world. Huge point of pride for the city, even after buildings in other cities surpassed it. The agreement was that nothing could be taller that the top of the statue. Also, when the Comcast Technology Center was being built, another Billy Penn replica was put on top, and the Eagles immediately won the Super Bowl. The Curse isn't broken - it needs to be constantly satisfied. Philly won't win another championship until a taller building is built and Billy Penn sits on top.

I heard it a little differently, apparently we will only win championships when we build a new building taller than the rest and place a statue on top, notice how the last 2 times we won, it was the same years as Comcast 1 and 2 were built. In summary, the next time we will win a championship will be the year that they build a building higher than Comcast 2 and place a new statue on top.

The Philadelphia Wings were NLL champions in 1998 and 2004. The Philadelphia Barrage were MLL champions in 2004, 2006, and 2007. Finally, the Philadelphia Soul were AFL champions in 2008. All of this took place before the Phillies won the 2008 World Series. So, either there was no curse, or, if there was a curse, that curse was broken in 1998.
