That massacre scene in the beginning where they string up the guy as a scarecrow was brutal. Loved the serious tone. In my opinion, humor has no place in horror. Only thing I didn’t like in this movie was the werewolf design (albino hairless bear tiger)?

Jason, have you watched the French movie “Brotherhood of The Wolf”? The Beast of Gévaudan is referenced a few times in this movie. It was a very real thing in France in 1760’s and to this day, there’s even a statue there that portrays the bravery of a young girl who survived an attack with The Beast. The movie is an action/suspense/horror film very much like this and gives its own version of the mystery behind this monster. Vincent Cassel is in it too (the Captain from “Underwater”) and Monica Bellucci gets naked in it as well. I’ve made my case!

This movie simply was great. Agreed on all of the points you both brought up. I will own this for sure when it hits physical media(if it has a physical media release). Really impressed with everything this movie gave us, the audience. It was worth the money easily. Can't wait to view this one again.

Like a modern Hammer film. I'm surprised they didn't produce this. Great atmosphere from the gnarled trees to the thick fog. A nuanced spin on the themes & mythology of old school horror.

I’m glad to hear this is pretty good! I wanted to check it out but no theaters had it near me. Luckily the Blu-ray preorder is already up on Amazon and shockingly cheap at $12.99 so I’ll get to check it out in May when it releases!

How is this movie so slept on?! Definitely moody and really creepy, and I liked how they only revealed small doses of the werewolf for the majority of it; that was just enough to keep the tension high. I’d watch it again for sure.

Agreed with your comments. Great period piece, dripping with atmosphere and a fresh take on werewolves lore. By the way, this movie pairs well with this lore podcast episode as it talks about Beast of Gévaudan which is referenced in the movie - www.lorepodcast.com/episodes/71

I really liked it Jase, didn't quite get the ending though. Did the "SPOILERS" guy die because the siver bullet was taken out of him and that was keeping him alive and sustaining him or something? Otherwise, I don't get the opening and ending scenes. It felt like an R rated Sleepy Hollow kinda vibe

That was my take yes. The bullet was keeping him a normal human. Once removed he died. But he probably would have or did die from blood loss
