I recommend trying Unaju/Unadon (freshwater eel in a sweet sauce over rice) - it's delicious and also very seasomally appropriate! Also depending on where you go, there's various local specialties, which is always fun to look up and try! Based on the more popular tourist destinations, I'll recommend some options! f you go to Kyoto, wagashi (traditional japanese sweets) and green tea are both famous there. Osaka is known for takoyaki (fried octopus dumplings) and okonomiyaki (a kind of stir fry). Kamakura is known for shirasu (whitebait) and sweets. Yokohama has the Shin-Yokohama Ramen Museum which is awesome as an experience and a place to try all kinds of regional ramen. Matsumoto (and also the rest of Nagano prefecture) is known for soba (buckwheat noodles) and hon-wasabi ("true wasabi", which is really different from what you usually see at sushi restaurants). Kanazawa has great seafood, as well as being famous for oden (a popular kind of hot pot dish) and gold-leaf covered ice cream (it's the same as regular Japanese ice cream except your next dump will be partially gold, but it makes for great social media flexing if you feel like it). Hiroshima is famous for okonomiyaki, although there's a difference in flavor between Osaka-style and Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki. Nagoya is well known for their local style of miso, which is darker and more flavorful than most other types and kishimen (wide, flat wheat noodles served in a miso broth). It's hard to find bad Japanese food in Japan, regardless of where you go, though!

My favourite Japanese dish is Katsu Curry with cheese as a topping. I also love Curry Udon, (Udon is so thick, gotta have it at least once!) My favourite Japan sweet is Daifuku (大福): they have different fresh fruit in the centre depending on the season, tho Strawberries are quite common (careful of the pit if you get plum!) Mitarashi Dango (みたらし団子 with brown sugar) is also a MUST have; it’s so delicious. Oh. And for a drink, you just have to have Melon Soda (メロン ソーダ)at least once. It’s so green it looks radioactive! ;P Have fun! X

Fave Japanese dish: Not truly a dish, but it's a noodle restaurant where you sit at the bar in seperate/individual seats/booths with dividers on each side so you cannot see your neighbor AND a wall in front of you rises and mysterious hands come out and hand you your noodle dish... You talk to no one, you sit by yourself, you see no ones face... Gurl, that's my type of place! 😂... Also, only place I could effectively communicate in Japan because all I know in Japanese is how to say "THANK YOU!" 🤷‍♀️ 🤷‍♂️... If I don't hear a truthful story about that place when you return...they didn't take you to the right place for noodles. 🍜... I call that place: LONELY JAPANESE NOODLES! 😂... OR: A PARADISE FOR INTROVERTS! 😂

Mac my favorite Japanese dish is Tonkatsu Curry, its a breaded pork cutlet sliced and put over rice with curry its sooooooo good😩😩😩 you can get it with chicken or tempura shrimp too. I also love gyoza, I go through cycles where I eat them all the time for like a month and get sick of them for a year and then repeat😂😂 I also love mochi, anpan (red bean buns) melon pan, croquets. Basically their pastries are so good and have a lot less sugar than ours do. Yakisoba, udon, and authentic ramen are all so good too! Have fun in Japan 🥰🥰

Food in Japan is so good ♥️ Okonomiyaki is my favorite, it's like a cabbage pancake/omelette that you can choose all kinds of toppings for (from meat to cheese to seafood) and it's so delicious. And convenience store food is so good and so cheap! Riceballs, steamed buns, fried chicken, cakes, fruit sandwiches, iced teas
