Haiku The Robot was on my radar for a while, being a melee combat metroidvania with a cool art style. I decided to play through it and ended up having a lot of fun with it as well as finding some crazy skips. Hope you enjoy my playthrough

I actually love how cheesable this game is. I finished it without even getting the grappling hook because the double jump lets you dash again in the air, and the dash lets you double jump again. So you can cross basically every gap by chaining them together.

Great vid, very cool game. And for anybody wondering about that weird text (that wasn't in english or any other "normal" language) that they found in a couple different spots... It's written in a language called ROILA (short for RObot Interaction LAnguage), which was made to be easy for robots to understand. The first text skurry found (at 24:14 when they were in Snail City (tm)) says "MONA JEKUTE NAWE. TEJIM MONA BILIJU FOJANE." which translates word-by-word as "She clean way. Water she move free" which I think means something along the lines of "She cleans the way. Water moves freely." and I'm guessing "she" is referring to "water." Though im not sure why it has "water" and "she" back to back in the second sentence. The other piece of text (37:12, when that robot... jumped into the fire) is a lot easier to translate -- "WEFIPU NEJOJ SOWU WELONA, FOJANE BAMAS SESEME NIKUF PUBEMU SOWU FEKAKU. MEKOBI BAFOP KULIL FENOB NIKUF BUKUF." Which translates to "Delicate fire and flame, free this land from ill and hate. Breathe in new life from death."

Bro the second I saw the creators opening the door, I instantly noticed that there were four notches, one of which was already unlocked. Hollow Knight is the first ever metroidvania I played so I kind of just use to describe what a metroidvania is. I am not sure if you could even make a 2d metroidvania that is significantly different from hollow knight. One of the places I can see change in is the story

In Metroid you only use guns and bombs, Castlevania games have loads of rpg elements that hk doesn't have, and even newer ones can be really different, Monster Sanctuary is like if Pokemon was a Metroidvania. All I was saying is that even if a game plays a lot like Hollow Knight, it isn't immediately a rip-off, with that being said plenty of Metroidvanias are wildly different from HK

On a more serious note, charms make a good metroidvania (excluding Metroid, which is a good MV for separate reasons). SotN, Ori, Hollow Knight (and Silksong), and of course, Haiku.

Void tendril I get, the "aura thing" I see where you're coming from but behaves mechanically different from PV's focus attack, the rest are just different attacks entirely. I agree this game has that HK feeling and obviously has taken a lot of inspiration from the game but saying "X boss from Haiku is literally and practically a carbon copy of X boss from Hollow Knight, to the T" is just extremely wrong.

I wouldn't call Haiku the Robot a rip-off or anything - I think the game is overall really cool and creative! - but I still wish it took a few more steps away from Hollow Knight.
