The Cutty Chronicles : Volume 3 (Blower Motor & Resistor fixed) Featuring the Cutlass Supreme

In this video I feature the changing out of an old blower motor and low speed resistor in my 1985 Cutlass Supreme. I am trying to find the cause of low flow within my HVAC system and this has to be done. Next will be the Flow check valve within the HVAC housing to make sure the vents are operating correctly.

My blower motor like the setup pictured on my 1980 oldsmobile delta 88 started blowing fuses or melting the inline fuse holder i put in.So after checking the resistor ,relay and switch.I took out the blower motor took it apart repacked it with bearing grease and inspected the brushes etc .Now it work on high speed again .The grease had dried out.

I believe the resistor works the low speeds.So if the low speeds are working then the resistor is okay.The high speed setting on the blower switch triggers the relay which sends the battery voltage across to the blower motor,direct 12 volts for high speed operation.In my case the blower motor's grease had dried out causing resistance or drag ,causing the fuse to blow only when switch was set high speed only.So i drilled out the four rivets, speadout the two brushes to clear the shaft to pull out the armature i believe it's called.Motor has no bearing in it just bushings.the bottom is where i put the bearing grease and a little around the shaft .Realized i had a rivet gun and sealed it back up.Now it works on all speeds again.Since my blower motor stays runing all the time the key is on for air circulation in car ,i guess it wears out quicker than cars that don't have it set to run for continuous circulation.

Could you please tell me which is the fuse that powers the blower? My blower used to work on low, but now nothing. I'm not reading power at blower connection.

Hey King Konga There is TWO things you need to check or change. One is the resistor which gives the blower motor different electrical currents based on your choice of (low,med,high) on the blower and two you need to check HVAC/AC fuse under the steering column. Its labeled and its a 25AMP fuse. If that still does not work, you can finally just change out the blower motor and see if thats it. Its all cheap stuff. The resistor was like $4 at autozone, the blower motor was like $30 and the fuse is like nothing too. Good luck
