Kalayakkhini (Verse #5)
A demon ogress, called a Yakkhini, chased a frantic mother with her newborn into the Buddha's temple. At his feet, the mother begged for protection. The Buddha, being able to see the past lives of others, told the two, "You have been chasing each other for countless lives, killing each other's children. When will you learn that revenge will only lead to more revenge? Only through understanding will you cut the cycle of revenge."
Wat San Fran is proud to present stories taken from the Jatakas, Dhammapada, and Buddhist history. These stories often use past rebirth stories (Jatakas) to reveal the connection between past and present, and illustrate the relationship between cause and effect.

Amazing and worth trying to remember whenever someone does something seemingly unprovoked, it could be due to our past kammic connections that we can’t remember and that we really need to break the cycle of hatred, by perhaps repeatedly reflecting on the Buddha’s teaching here. Thank you so much for uploading..these are really wonderful teachings …a feeling that the Buddha is really present. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼💎💎💎🌹🌹🌹

The process of revenge never ends. We should be aware of the cycle of our birth. We should find ourselves to be more loving and kind to each other. At the same time, we should also come to forgive.✨✨✨

This story seems to reflect the practice of hindu women who place new born babies at the feet of a deity they call "Periachi", this might have been a practice developed by the priests of various groups in India to reflect this story I believe, what do you think?

the mother gives the baby up voluntarily...but if the yakinee did end up harming the child....would this cause a bad karmic bond the mother would have to repay for what she did to the child had the buddha not already known/forseen that there would be no harm to the baby?

The Buddha knew she could not harm anymore. So, he requested the mother to give the baby to demoness to break karmic cycle by developing compassion and understanding in the demoness.
