@@archades115 I can definitely understand that. I guess I got off easy. My experience back then was with a Fisher Price record player and a 45 rpm record that replayed the story while I read along in a book. When it’s just still shots and Max shredding Anthony Hopkin’s guts is deleted (as well as the Hell scene) he’s more awe inspiring than terrifying.

@altha2008 it was still dumb the did it too cut the budget by 80% removed 90% of the cylons made it set in modern times had them riding around with super motorcycles with laser eyes "a stupid kid toy idea" and had then for literally 8 episodes in a row fighting biker gangs and had 4 more where they joined the Mormon church... none if which made sense or fit with the previous series at all.... BSG 1980 was a complete travesty and insult too the original show.. if ABC had let the creative team do their job they could of had a top notch sequel where the final colony was "hyper advanced, or super primitive" and had a great final series like they wanted in fact the original outline was for them too find earth and it was uninhabited with only bits of evidence of our former modern civilization...

These cylons are incredibly iconic. They are absolutely out on their own. Really mysterious, sinister and perfectly encapsulate the unfeeling coldness of a machine. A pity that a really proper remake of this 'universe', has not yet happened. Someone like Peter Jackson would be perfect. Fantastic director, but also extremely devoted to maintaing the spirit of source material in his reenactments.

Cylons, Cybermans are individuals. Having a mind of their own and 'free will' and in a sense a counterpart of humans soldiers who follow militairy orders as well, yet are capable on their own. Daleks have some ... yet are too structured by the chain of command and show no emotion. A Borg is a drone just doing what is commanded - see also a T-800 - without the learning chip to be more human if deployed under humans.

@@moiggc Well, that's the point. The Cylons thought they were designing the perfect infiltrators and terrorists that the pure humans couldn't detect. However, with human emotions there were always risks they didn't foresee as the original machine Cylons didn't have emotions to begin with. Some Cylon/human hybrids could decide to have emotional attachments to humans and therefore switch loyalties.

@@dan_hitchman007 For sure, as a plot concept goes, it is very interesting. But as far as sci-fi plots go these days, there isn't anything new or different. It's like space Dallas lol. If I was writing for this, I would've added something to the Cylons that 'seems' human, but for sure isn't human. Just my opinion, tho. Same goes for the last V, too much relatable human (read: drama) emotions and culture.

They need a director like Peter Jackson I think, who is very dedicated to source material, and vaulting the spirit of what made an original tale so good in the first place. With modern film making tech, this could be an ENORMOUS blockbuster now to younger viewers, if it was done right by keeping crucial aspects like the voice and the cylon costumes. @@RobertNielsen1970 the remake of Battlestar Galactica in like its razor offshoot showed the 1970's cylons still hanging around, and some of their base stars as well,I guess Dean Stockwell as human Cylon number 1 must have had nostalgia for the 1970's cylons cause he let them guard the Cylon colony, and even the 2003 Starbuck, and Apollo were surprised to see the 70's cylons still kicking ass, then the conversion of humans into cylons 1-12 that grossed me out, reminded me of pigs getting killed for bacon, and pork chops, and originally the cylons wanted to mate with us on hospital farms back on Caprica, and Starbuck became a human lab rat after baltar failed his sex education class with human cylon#6, must have been Dean Stockwell's character that wanted sex between humans, and cyclone, too bad music group midnight star didn't get to do their freakazoid song for Battlestar Galactica,Larson, and them would have made a fortune,at least the guy on midnight star used the vocalizer of the cylons in their songs, wonder if Richard hatch, and dirk benedict burned out their copies of freakzoid to honor the cylons, and I felt dirk got a 70's cylon to pose for the a team opening credits, wonder how much the guy posing as a 70's Cylon got for the opening sequence of the a team for wearing the body suit underneath the silver outer shell, also wonder if cobra commander in 80's go Joe loved 70's cylons so he made a head mask of destro that made him look like 70's Cylon, plus didn't. Hasbro write the 70's Battlestar Galactica comics, wonder would have happened if the 70's cylons had to save us from 80's deception Megatron, that might have been a cool series, wonder if hasbro along with Micheal bay ,or his protégé might want to work on this type of crossover series, while some of us were freaking out about normal stuff like keeping a home, and job and imagine if this started in states like Colorado where weed is legal, imagine so folks so high they thought this was just a play, and thanking the cylons for saving their bacon, cause megatron wanted a human hippies barbecue, then pay Tommy Chong for being the human who says far out to the Cylon, then drives his pineapple express truck to the dispensary he runs for a reload, and have Seth Rogen be head of security,or Mike Meyers, and Dana carvey.

If the 2003 Battlestar had lucifer, it might have Edward j o as Adama rethink his view of cylons, since even lucifer was smarter than baltar from the 1970's cause he told another cylon in front of 70's baltar, and the 70's was still around before 70's Apollo shot him,so if a old worn out captain of a space air craft carrier could deal with lucifer, maybe the cylons weren't. all bad toasters as our other side of the galaxy humans felt, plus in star trek the 12 colonies of kobol would have been in the delta quadrant where the borg called home, according to 7of9 when Kate Mulgrew as Janeway rehumanized 7,then she joined Patrick Stewart's crew in star trek Picard, wonder how much Jeri Ryan is worth after joining star trek after modeling,I gather had Tricia Helfer not got the part of human cylon#6jeri Ryan might have crossed over from star trek to bsg 2003,must be cool to be a female model when Sci fi calls especially if you get to be a bad guy,who seduces Brainiac humans like baltar for our computer defense codes, why would cylons needed the codes just send Tricia, and Jeri out ,and they would have had us around the fingers instead of frying us like irradiated chickens, wonder if the 1970's cylons were related to the 1980's reptiles in the series v, who thought we humans were walking happy meals ,and they even cooked us like McDonald's did ,except vegan Freddy Kruger actor Robert Englund, just wanted a new home,he didn't want us humans as road kill,he was happy at his hippie juice joint outside Los Angeles,California, but I guess some so called exterrestials have to be ruthless, interesting the 1980's v series was about galactic nazis as reptiles doing what human hitler couldn't do,but its 2000's version like bsg 2003 was too humanizing in guerrilla warfare, and not th 1970's movies about plants replicating and taking over in invasion of the body snatchers, and the Andromeda strain about space spores infecting us,and mutating us,which is probably how if there are extraterrestrials outside earth they would really do it,this is probably why some folks don't trust vaccination, since it parts of other stuff being injected into our bodies to teach our immune systems to protect us,I've learned this having a virologist as a cousin, and all the blood shots I've had in my life to keep me going through now,and I also learned this from the book, and movie the fantastic voyage about humans injected into another human to save his life, and another model Raquel welch was a scientist in the movie, and this was in the 1960's before star trek, star wars, and Battlestar Galactica, then knight rider, and other Sci fi series, even space 1999 was in the 1960's, even the Japanese already artificial intelligence on their minds before Hasbro created transformers in 1981-85,and the Japanese might create cylons, just watch a hasbro show in 2012 called littlest pet shop where they spoof a toy store using a actual Cylon from the 1970's as a security gaurd in a Amazon type toy store, and it was created in Japan, where big bad Godzilla came from after we dropped some bombs off their coast in the mid 1940's-50's,and now we have a hardon collider underneath Europe which is smashing atoms that might create future energy,or future earthquake's,which ever comes first, not to go off on a tangent, just pondering how we create stuff that can kill us without pondering the consequences of our actions as humans, and interesting at the end of the remake Battlestar Galactica angelic versions of human cylons debate whether we will do this all over again, and its the old saying don't pay attention to history,we end up repeating. it., even if we're on side of the milky way galaxy, then the other. side, since earth 1 was the other side of the milky way galaxy and we're on earth 2 on our side of the milky way galaxy according to 21 century Galactica,if you look at the wiki page about the remake.

Who were the Cylons? Where did they Originate? Why hate humans? Are Battle Stars powerful than BaseStars?

I read somewhere that the Cylon machines evolved from a lizard like race. The machine cylons supposedly overwhelmed the originals. It's not clear why they are on a mission to exterminate humans. This was an order of the Imperious Leader, however. My guess is that humans stood in the way of Cylon galactic domination, and of course the cylons wanted to get rid of that obstacle. Battlestars are more heavily armed than Base ships, but my guess is that the Base Ship can carry more aircraft than a Battlestar.

The Cylons had enslaved an alien race and the humans/ colonialists had freed them. This is what started the conflict.

@@nopcshere6097 there would be the ability for an infinite number of Cylon fighters whereas Battlestars had no way of producing any. They also were full of unnecessary people. Imagine if everyone on a modern Aircraft Carrier had their family along.

The robots were created by the Cylon reptile race as subservient drones. The reptiles died off thousands of years ago. The robot Cylons started a war with the Colonials that lasted 1000 years before the start of the series. Apollo tells this to Boxey in the first episode/movie.

@@thegreenerthemeaner Interesting perspective. "Unnecessary people": what would the operators of the Battlestars BE without their people?? General ant (trying to genocide ant colony): "It's for the good of the colony." Z: "But we ARE the colony!"

It's fascinating how awful the original Cylons were. Particularly anything that *wasn't* a Centurion. The translucent IL model at 0:49 looks like a kid's toy. The Centurions mostly suffered from being far, far too shiny. The designs show a distinct lack of imagination, which is funny, since the original BSG was largely about cashing in on the popularity of the first Star Wars movie. A movie which had *lots* of innovative, one-off droid designs, like all the ones stuck in the cargo hold of the Jawa landcruiser. I don't remember any of that dialog, either, beyond the iconic "by your command." Some of it works, some of it comes across as absurd when run through that robotic voice filter. It's a pity that the 2003 remake was so, so focused on human-replica Cylons (mainly so humans could have sex with the model 6 and model 8, near as I can tell). The revised Centurions have no apparent personalities. I'm not sure any of them have speaking roles, ever.
