@@GabrielTravelerVideos I'm a big fan of Lager beers. Czech and Bavarian lagers are the best in the world. For your taste you can ask for a 12 degree beer as these are more tasty. I guess you ordered 10 degree beer which has less alcohol and is more for daily consumption as you don't get drunk that fast. In Czech Republic you look at the 10, 11 or 12 (most common) number on the menu next to beer or on the can/bottle. You can also ask for Psenicne Pivo which is cloudy and not transparent. But if you manage to go to Brno, I would recommend to visit the Pegas Restaurant in the city centre. They brew their own beer right in the Restaurant, their Oatmeal Stout is really a top quality and they offer some realy good traditional Czech food. Many famous people of the world visited this restaurant. And no worries it's nothing fancy. Just an every day typical Czech restaurant in the style of Bavarian beer halls. Very big.

Your trip through the Czech Republic is much appreciated with magnificent scenery, fantastic old European architecture and spectacular castles etc. You are showing the magnificence of this beautiful country which was still joined to Slovakia when in 1990 I drove my 1969 VW campervan through there. Unfortunately in those days there was no internet so I was unaware of magnificence of these stunning towns and cities, except Prague of course. But having read up on Napoleonic history I found my way to the Battle of Austerlitz 1805, a battle between the three Emperors which Napoleon won. This is just outside of Brno not too far from where you are now worth a visit and pondering over this historical event. It's

The thing about Czechia is that most of the times people dont really like czech cuisine that much, so when going out people love eating italian, indian or vietnamese cuisines. So ironically those restaurants are sometimes the most local ones haha. Btw being myself from Ceske Budejovice-there are basically no "touristy" or scam restaurants so you dont need to worry about that-everything is reasonably priced. Maybe next time try Potrefena Husa right next to the square which offers a nice selection of czech foods or Solnice which is even cooler and with more traditional foods :).

I'm an American living in České Budějovice. There are soooo many local traditional Czech pubs. It's a real shame you missed them all. You were a. block away from Masné Krámy, which you would have loved, it was the old meat market in the 14th century, turned into a restaurant in the 1950s to avoid demolishing it. In addition, down that long street headed back to your hotel, you passed Vatikan, which also has traditional Czech food. Not the old traditional Czech atmosphere you were looking for, but you would have gotten good Czech food. You also missed viewing the oldest tower in the city. You were showing it at 22:20 of your video. Inside there is a small Czech pub and it sometimes has a little bit of traditional Czech food, for a good price as well. You could have climbed that tower which is now a museum. It's a shame you didn't catch my videos on the city while you were on the train from Pilsen. You would have had a lot of good info to go on for your visit. Oh, and I'm not much of a beer drinker but I like a good stout. Next time you're in the CZ, just order a dark beer (tmavé pivo) and you'll enjoy it. They aren't as heavy as a stout but they are still good. But I have to warn you, saying Czech Budweiser tastes like American Budweiser is practically blasphemy to Czechs. 😀

Most of Czech restaurants disapeared, it was a trend in like 10-20 years ago that everyone who didn't want to work as an ordinary employee wanted to open their own restaurant, there was a restaurant on every corner, most of them very average or even low quality. Covid, energo crisis and inflation destroyed all these restaurants, they prices are that high now, that people don't go there anymore to pay such price for not that great quality. More people go to vietnamese restaurants or those chains in malls where you still can eat for acceptable price and you at least know what to expect. I mostly better go to KFC than trying some Czech restaurants, it's sad, but reality.

Fun fact, in many European countries people are not really that into national cuisine when going to a restaurant which is why a city like Ceske Budejovice is not full of Czech restaurants. Of course, the Portuguese, Spaniards, Frenchmen, Italians, Serbs, Albanians, Greeks and Turks are totally in love with their own amazing food, but this is not really the case in western, central, northern and eastern Europe. You find Czech restaurants in downtown Prague because it's a popular tourist thing to try the national cuisine, in non-touristy towns you will instead find food that Czechs go out to eat, that is foreign food, Vietnamese in particular is very popular and there is a significant Vietnamese community in the Czech Republic who runs these restaurants. I live in Sweden and believe it or not, the one and only meatball restaurant in the entire country is in downtown Stockholm and is a tourist place. We ourselves prefer Middle Eastern, Italian, Mexican, Thai and Chinese food when eating out.
@GabrielTravelerVideos
@GabrielTravelerVideos 4 ай бұрын

I disagree with this, Czechs love their own cuisine. We have a big lunch culture and many workers still eat lunch menu dishes every day of the week and those are usually Czech classics. In Prague you have a ton more options (international places), but I never struggle to find a Czech restaurant anywhere in the country. What you're describing is more true for Northern Europe (e.g. Netherlands) than for the Czech Rep. Czechs don't eat deer on a regular basis, but most typical Czech dishes usually contain pork or beef.

Some of my favorites are: Peroni, Bohemia, Lucky Buddha, Tsing Tao, Bitburger pils, Paulaner, Dortmunder Union Pils and other microbrewery American Pilsners. In the summer I like wheat beer with lemon and Black and Tans on St. Patty's Day. But for the most part ales taste toothy and inelegant to me.

At least in The Netherlands, youll almost never find a traditional Dutch restaurant outside of the tourist zone. Its just not something locals think of when considering to eat out so that might play a part here as well. Its all Italian, Indian, Chinese, Thai, burgers or kebabs... We do eat lots of Surinamese and Indonesian so that at least has something to do with Dutch traditions. Exception would probably be pancake houses but thats typically where families go for lunch since its comfort food very popular with kids of course. Or the "snackbar" of course which is just a diner type place with basically only deep fried fast food.

Budweiser Budvar is Czech. Budweiser is American. 2 totally different beers and companies who are constantly sueing each other for the trademark on the name. The American beer came later and is nowhere near as good as the Czech companies beer.

Totally agree. Budvar is a class beer. The American version doesn’t even taste like beer. Total respect to Gabriel though, he’s a great beer connoisseur (like me 😂)

Yeah, I would never equate Budweiser to anything near Czech beer. Grand Theft Autos take on it is suitable "Pisswasser". Czech beer is amazing. Staropramen is amazing. Nothing at all anywhere near like American rubbish.

@@vitalitihomirov5781Ryska. Swedish is as far as I know the only Germanic language that has these endings for male and female genders, our language has through the ages been influenced by languages all around the Baltic Sea in countries that once belonged to the Swedish Empire, like Finnish, Latvian, Polish and of course most of all German, not High German though but Low German. Sweden and the Swedish language is at the easternmost reaches of the Germanic world, Swedish is also spoken throughout Finland by hundreds of thousands people and the locations of the Finland Swedish communities stretches almost all the way to the Russian border. These male and female endings is also applied to other nationalities, amerikan/amerikanska, holländare/holländska, fransman/franska, spanjor/spanska, grek/grekiska, finne/finska etc.

You're on thin ice with the comments regarding Budvar and Pilsner Urquell 😂 That being said, I understand you like stronger beers full of flavour (e.g. Belgian style), Czechs are more into simpler lagers/pilsners, that have just enough flavour and bitterness which goes well with food + you can drink quite a few more during your evening at the pub. Belgian beers and similar are a bit too overpowering for those purposes.

I would say that half of Czechs prefer harder, stronger more bitter Pilsner Urquel and second half prefers more light Budvar style. I prefer Budvar. When I have PU type beer, I will immediately fall asleep after it and then I go vommit 😀

I lot of people don't like Budvar, but I vice versa don't like Pilsner Urquel, it's very hard, bitter and I always sleep after it immediately and then vommit. And Budvar makes more types of beer, people who like more "proper beer" very like Budvar 33 which is very bitter and I don't like it, but I don't like beer generally.

Ď is very specific sound? I think that only Czech, Slovak, Russian and maybe Ukrainian have that sound, similarly with Ť, not even Poles can pronounce it. But for English speakers, it's enough to simplify it to like their "DYU" sound and "TYU" for example in youtube.
