​@@MonkeyDM The weird thing is that 3.5e had a solution for the no healing spells on undead since undead could be healed by negative energy spells like Inflict Wounds and Harm. They could have just kept that aspect of undead and the game would have been just fine.

Hollow One from the critical role setting still gives you the undead creature type. You’d have to work with your DM on it, especially if you’re not playing in the Critical Role setting, but could still work.

We play with them as undead at my table, but allow them to heal with spells and stuff. We’ve been workshopping treating inflict wounds as cure wounds for them, but we haven’t really decided that yet.

Yeah they could have applied the same rules that Autognome got to allow for healing. But even then, there are many spells and effects that mess up undead, so it would be a very risky player option. Not a bad thing, but definitely doesn’t have broad appeal.

People often forget that having a creature type does more than just add a tag.... For example.... An Ooze is immune to sleep spells and go into a stasis rather than actual sleep and since an Oozeborn is labled as an Ooze, they get this same effect. As an undead, you automatically get immunity to poison at the expense of not being affected by healing magic.

For buffs no one is talking about. How about the Rune Shaper feat (that you can get from the Rune Carver background) that gives the Rune Knight more power. They both give you rune you can inscribe onto objects and nothing stopping you from benefiting from both features from each rune as long as the rune is on both features. A level 10 Rune Knight with the Rune Shaper feat from the Rune Carver Background can have the hill, stone, frost, fire, cloud and storm runes, get all 6 benefits from the Rune Knight and get 6 spells they can cast once per long rest (7 with comprehend languages). And maybe more from the magic items with runes from Bigby's (although only 2 say that the rune is inscribed onto the item)

I long ago houseruled that reborn count as undead. It's silly to say otherwise. In fact, there is a reborn NPC in my game that has an entire story arc and questline around the fact that he's undead.

We take any new update that changes player creature types and make them dual so you're character isn't immune to spells. Looking at you changeling. Changelings get the humanoid tag, undead get the humanoid tag, etc. It keeps things balanced for everyone, and fair.

We’re playing in a mashup of Elden Ring/Dark Souls universes for a game and we’re considered Undead for the purposes of my oathbreaker’s aura. It’s a huge boon on our barbarian to have even more damage to add. Unfortunately our DM has ruled I can’t just control undead the PCs.

Guys I need help My party is on a quest to save a king (homebrew) and we ended up in a jungle where we encountered a witch and a candy hut, everyone except me and a fighter ate it and got kidnapped/dimension warped, we managed to find another shack that led to the same dimension and managed to rescue our friends, we did not kill the witch who dimension warped away from us again, then out of game I made a joke about us being in Hansel Gretel, and due to similar encounters joked that we were going to have to fight the entire Disney cinematic universe, I then continued to start pretending to place bets that next we would be fighting Dumbo, apparently my antics had pissed off the DM and the witch came back while we were resting and warped the house to the top of a mountain, and we are now located in a roc nest that the dm has named: Dumbo, any suggestions on how to survive?😂😭

You're free to do whatever in your home games. However, none of the ravenloft races count as undead. Just like how warforged doesn't count as a construct. Since healing spells don't work on undead and channel divinity like turn or destroy undead target 4 was probably done for balancing reasons. Reborn is fun, though.

I have a reborn fighter in my party, and we had an oathbreaker in the party as well. When the oathbreaker betrayed the party I gave the buffs to the reborn for the rule of cool. But otherwise no, its unbalanced. Spells do not affect them including cure wounds.

Rangers did not get buffed. They got tunnel vision. Now if you don't use Hunter's Mark, you nurf yourself. A buff to Rangers, would have been making Hunter's Mark not be a concentration spell, so Rangers can add some diversity to what they do per turn in combat.

Im sorry but everyone says oh the ranger buffs are so good and make the class so much better. Umm they're a martial class and require either A a spell to do reasonable or even acceptable damage compared to other classes or B an optional ability allowing you to concentrate on mark against ONE creature of your choice (concentration like concentration on a spell) to deal more damage. What happens when you get hit oh you loose that buff again. Y'all are crazy if you think rangers got any meaningful buffs

Well, technically they are only humanoid. Is it dumb? Sure. But being undead has tons of negatives. Many healing spells dont include constructs and undead. Also, your partys cleric wont get to use their destroy undead feature so often, because you now need to also make that save. Sure, you will not get destroyed, but i'd say you definitly would get banished. So yeah, being undead has its upsides and reborn is kinda broken in some builds even without being undead, but it also has downsides. But yeah, playing a reborn aaracocra or winged tiefling not only is awesome as fuck, its also pretty OP and much better than some combo 100% dependant on the party being evil.
