What’s the The Da Vinci Code movie about?
One night, Professor Robert Langdon (Tom Hanks), an eminent specialist in the study of symbols, is called to the Louvre Museum in France. The museum curator has been murdered, but before he died, he left behind mysterious symbols. With the help of cryptologist Sophie Neveu (Audrey Tautou), Langdon will lead the investigation and discover signs hidden in the works of Leonardo da Vinci. All the clues converge towards a religious organization as mysterious as it is powerful, ready to do anything to protect a secret capable of destroying a two thousand year old dogma. From Paris to London, then to Scotland, Robert and Sophie will try everything to decipher the code and get close to the secrets that challenge the very foundations of Christianity.

If Jesus Christ had a daughter and a surviving bloodline, then it means Christianity is a lie. It means he never died on the cross. It means he was never resurrected. It means he never ascended to Heaven. It means he never paid the debt for our sins. It means he was not God in human form. It means he, Mary Magdeline and their living descendent have no special status above anyone else. They are just people. Given all this, what sense does this scene make? It makes no sense at all.

Jesus was crucified this we know is true from Roman and Jewish history. The theory is Jesus wasn't immortal and wasn't the Son of God but was a man. Jesus was an extraordinary and exceptional man but still just a man and he had a wife and child. Hiding this means he wasn't God's son and cancels the Church's power.

@@mcdermott817 The book and movie made no sense to me because of the glaring self-contradiction. On one hand, we are supposed to deny the spiritual significance of Jesus Christ and his blood lineage. (He was, after all, nothing more than a means to an end, exploited by a long line of Con artists.) Yet on the other hand, we are supposed to celebrate the spiritual significance of the only living descendent of Jesus Christ.

@@stuntbaby63 Well, it does make sense. Even tho he was not the son of god - according to this theory - he does have a significant spiritual relevance, be it as a god or a normal man. He inspired many people during his life and was a spiritual leader. However the church is bases his spiritual relevance on the fact he was the son of god which made him relevant. The fact he has a descendant would question the foundation of many religions, especially the Catholics. But Langdon does not celebrate the spiritual significance of Mary Magdalene, he is in awe of the power this secret holds and pays her respect. Its similar but at least to me the difference makes sense. All of this is of course under the presumptions of this movie or the book, as it is a nice theory but only a theory and there is no way to actually prove any of it. At least to our knowledge.

You gotta understand something: Robert Langdon is the alter ego of author Dan Brown, which has a complicated history with religion, he is skeptical of the myths and everything, but every once in a while he reconnects with his catholic roots and spiritual side, i mean if he was a dieharding Atheist why he would make his career writing christian themed books? The end of the book reflects on his faith, he may reject the mythos and everything and call himself a man without the gift of faith but he can't deny that in the end he too has faith and is fighting everyday to not lose his side of him, he may be not a Christian man, but he is a follower of Jesus Christ and his legacy.
