The Daily Drawing 7

Welcome to "The Daily Drawing". In an effort to combat creative block and broaden our visual library I have an exercise for us. Each day (Mon. through Fri.) I will pick a new subject from my Daily Drawing Jar. Then you and I will go and find visual reference of that subject and spend 15-20 minutes drawing our own versions. This will be a fun way to broaden our artistic scope and hopefully improve our visual library.

About Aaron Blaise:

Aaron Blaise is an animation feature film director and wildlife artist.
For 21 years Aaron worked with Disney helping to create some of the greatest animated films ever made. During that time he worked as an animator or supervising animator on "The Rescuers Down Under", "Beauty and the Beast", "Aladdin", "The Lion King", "Pocahontas", "Mulan" and more.
In 2003 he was co-director of "Brother Bear" for which he earned an Oscar nomination for Best Animated Feature Film.
After "Brother Bear" he helped to develop several projects but ultimately left Disney to pursue an opportunity back home in Florida. Aaron recently served as 2D Animation Supervisor and Character Designer for the "The Bear and the Hare" an advertisement loved by millions around the world. (vimeo.com/7874...)

What an unexpected surprise this one turned out to be! I have never drawn flowers, because whenever I looked at them before, I had a hard time understanding their form. Today, however, I found a ton of joy breaking down the forms and trying to recreate them in different positions. Thanks, Aaron!

Maybe an obvious thing in hindsight, but the thing that really helped me to draw organic stuff like plants, rocks, mountains etc. was to literally draw loose, as in, hold the pencil pretty far from the top, and let that looseness create an illusion of detail! For anyone out there, give it a try

Thanks for this series. I try to challenge myself by trying to draw the prompt from memory, and being ok with however it comes out on paper. I'm using this as a visual memory- building exercise. Thanks again. 😊

I discovered the WW2 connection during my brief research faze and so I made my drawing more melancholic.
