Xamaica. But it's so hard not to go full tiki whenever I get started with a Daiquiri... because I can't choose a rum so I start mixing them and then, well, I have syrups and pimento dram right here...good grief.

Love the reminder to relax on the strict ingredients/ratios/serving styles. Mixology/bartending is an art form... play with it, make it your own, and avoid the inflexible "has to be this way or it's wrong" of these things called cocktails. Nice work as always team & cheers to national daiquiri day! 🍹

I love a good daquiri. I use 'em for a couple things: first, just to make a really simple, easy, tasty drink. But I also like to make a quick daquiri with about every new bottle of rum just because it's a great way to try the rum and get a feel for how it mixes.

The only grip I have with a daiquiri is how quickly they go down! For the classic, I LOVE using Plantation 3 Star rum. Just a hint of funk adds some complexity. Same rum I like to use in my mojitos for the same reason.

Another vote for Plantation 3 here. Made an enormous difference in the quality of my daiquiri. My ratios are sightly different but they work for me: 2 rum:1 lime:0.75 crystal syrup (1:1)

Thanks for the Daiquiri refresher and the dark rendition, always looking for great riffs on the classics. Great drink to discover and develop critical cocktail skills. I learned two key lessons from making the Daiquiri at home. 1. How to balance the sweet and sour notes for my palate (I lean slightly sweet) while maintaining the signature lime bite of the Daiquiri. 2. How to shake for proper chill, dilution, aeration, and integration.

I make daiquiris as a template to try things, (bitters, syrups, etc.) so I've had quite a few daiquiris that were odd colors. Also, I use whatever rum I'm drinking that month, not always a Cuban style, so even then they're rarely bright white. My favorite uses Plantation 3 star, agave syrup, lime, and a fat dash of orange bitters.

You are so right about the greatness and timelessness of this cocktail. Between light, dark, agricole and overproof rums, there are endless (and delicious) combinations to explore here. For a while, my go-to was 50/50 barbancourt 4-yr and wray & nephew, which was tasty and very potent. Also loved working smith & cross into various combos. Cheers!

Hey Anders, I love your take on this. I have actually read through some of the old Daiquiri recipes. Some did include modifiers (I.e. a dash of grenadine, or curaçao, or maraschino, or bitters). I really like the dash of grenadine included next to the simple syrup. I know it’s not the classic, but each to their own. Enjoy your weekend bro, I really appreciate your videos every week, I know it takes a lot of effort to make these. Cheers 🍹

Thanks Anders, Daiquiri has always been my favorite. Here is my version, definitely not a classic, but you should give it a try if you haven’t already.. -45ml White rum (Plantation 3 Star) -15ml Dark rum (Appleton estate 12years) -15ml Cointreau -20ml fresh lime juice -20ml semi rich simple Syrup (1,5:1) I recommend adding a little more of both Syrup and Lime (up to 5ml each depending on your limes and your preference of course), otherwise the Cointreau can be quite dominant and destroy a otherwise beautifully balanced drink. If done correctly you add an interesting dimension to this Cocktail with the Cointreau and the dark rum. Serve up and enjoy :) cheers!

I am happy to find that others make a “Dark Daiquiri”, and I enjoy both variations. For the classic Daiquiri I use Bacardi Heritage which is 89 proof and distilled in Mexico. I also use a 2:1 simple syrup. For a Dark Daiquiri I have been using the Appleton 12 year or Matsuala Rum, my rich (Demerara) Syrup is also 2:1.

I typically use a light rum like Real McCoy or Probitas but always supplement with a splash of Jamaican pot still to add that touch of earthiness and character. You just made me go into my kitchen and make one! I used a 3 year old Cuban rum (Havana Club) don't think you get it in the U.S. It's a light rum with a slight amber tint. I also used a brown sugar for my syrup. Tried it and with drink in hand I am watching the rest more of your channel...and I just love it! I had no idea that this drink originated in Cuba. My favorite cocktail. My favorite recipe is; 2 oz Barbados White rum 1 oz LIme Juice 2 tsp of a homemade granulated sugar mix made of 4 parts Cane Sugar, 1 part demerara stirred with the lime juice prior to adding the rum to the mixing tin. The Barbados White has a hint of a rum/floral note to it's taste without being sharp or sweet. The sugar mix is from BeachBum Barry the "Tiki Historian" and owner of Latitude 29. It conveys a clean sweetness with a touch of depth to the flavor.

A couple years ago I tested about two dozen Daiquiri specs to find my preferred recipe. This is what I settled on: 20 oz / 60 ml light rum 2/3 oz / 20 ml lime juice 1/3 oz / 10 ml simple syrup I also use the semi-rich syrup. I'll also often blend white rums. My favorite house blend is as follows: 9 parts / 45 ml Bacardi Superior 2 parts / 10 ml Rhum J.M. 1 part / 5 ml Wray & Nephew

My go to recipe is adapted to the cocktail codex version: 1,75oz light rum (Plantation 3 Stars, it has some light jamaican funk in it) 0,25oz Clairin (makes a huuge impact) 1oz lime (opting for super lime, recipe by zack zoschke) 0,75oz 1:1 simple Perfect Daiquiri for my taste buds.

Since you ask, my preference for a Classic Daiquiri is to use Bacardi white label. Unimaginative, I know, but it's basically designed for Daiquiris. I have a sweet tooth (unsophisticated, I know), so I use a richer simple syrup than the video calls for. As far as the Dark Daiquiri goes, I think I'll give it a try.

The best rum for Daiquiri, in my humble opinion, is really close to just mixing your two choices: Foursquare Probitas/Veritas. Foursquare is the original distiller for Real McCoy, and Probitas is a blend of Barbados and Jamaican (Hampden Estate, rather than Hamilton) rums. I like making a Daiquiri as part of deciding about a new rum: Have it neat, with a drop of water, with an ice cube, and in a Daiquiri.

I ordered one and love it. That sucks you have to deal with the markup. My only gripe with it is that there is no 20z (60ml) measurement. Not a deal breaker, as it has a 1oz (30ml) measurement. Other than that, the the thing feels great in your hands and there's virtually no spillage. Hopefully you can pick one up for a reasonable price!

I've always considered daiquiris my #1 favorite cocktail. People always look at me weird when I say that because they think I'm talking about the overly sweet frozen ones. I think Flor De cana extra seco makes the best clean daiquiri, but I do love dark ones as well, and the best daiquiris I've had in bars here in Portland have always been dark ones. Amusingly, the best daiquiri I ever had was at the whiskey library lounge. They were doing these banana daiquiris with doctor bird rum and I don't know what else but they were just perfect in every way. I had like 5 of those that night. I've been trying to recreate it at home with what I have on hand, using creme de banane and various rums. They're good but not on the level of what I had at that bar.

Recently discovered the Royal Bermuda 🇧🇲 Yacht Club Daiquiri recipe which has become my favorite. The Golden Falernum seems to moderate the acidity of the lime juice in the regular Daiquiri and the Orange Curaçao 🇨🇼 seems to temper the tartness of the lime juice resulting in a nicely crafted slightly more complex and smoother variant.

Thank you Andres! Another educational, entertaining, amazing video! I really hope that one the channel goes on the road to talk to distillers, mixologist..and visit lounges etc. Your style is so entertaining and enjoyable to watch. And when you and Az team up, it's sheer delight. Keep up the great work!

I always do a 112 daquiri with 2:1 simple. I love that sweetness. I think I've explored every single rum I own in a daquiri, and they're all fantastic. It's such a good vehicle for rums =)

I love a good DAQ, I heard from a few friends that that the best thing to do with any new bottle of rum is to try it in one and see how it goes. great video anders cheers!

I'm still using the Don Q Gold I bought a year ago when I wrote down all the recommendations from your starting a bar on a budget video and went to the liquor store. The only size bottle of Don Q Gold they had in stock was the handle. I have bought a bottle of the Hamilton Jamacian Pot Still Gold (which I think is identical to the Black, except for color). I should try that one.

Take a look at the Hemingway Daquiri. Basic daiquiri without simple sugar but with grapefruit juice and maraschino cherry liqueur added. Ernie drank his on the rocks.

TIL how easy daiquiris are to make. That dark one immediately had me wanting to try it.

Thank you for this video! I do love to make complex and convoluted cocktails but some days you just want the simple perfection of a daiquiri. Have never tried a dark daiquiri but I just got some Hamilton and I'm excited to give it a try. Cheers.

I use Havana Club 3 años for daiquiris, which I find perfect. Works well in mojitos too.

Happy Friday! I can't say I've seen the dark Daiquiri before. Going to have to try this one, especially since I recently made a fresh batch of demerara syrup. Great video as always! Thanks!

Thank you. Nobody around here seems to know what a classic lime daiquiri is. I used to get this frozen mix and make it in my blender. Can't find it anywhere.

Can’t go wrong with a daiquiri. I used Brugal as my dark rum, it’s from the Dominican Republic (also great in piña coladas) with rich Demerara and it’s BANGIN.
