I love a good daquiri. I use 'em for a couple things: first, just to make a really simple, easy, tasty drink. But I also like to make a quick daquiri with about every new bottle of rum just because it's a great way to try the rum and get a feel for how it mixes.

The only grip I have with a daiquiri is how quickly they go down! For the classic, I LOVE using Plantation 3 Star rum. Just a hint of funk adds some complexity. Same rum I like to use in my mojitos for the same reason.
@cebailey59202 жыл бұрын
Another vote for Plantation 3 here. Made an enormous difference in the quality of my daiquiri. My ratios are sightly different but they work for me: 2 rum:1 lime:0.75 crystal syrup (1:1)

Thanks for the Daiquiri refresher and the dark rendition, always looking for great riffs on the classics. Great drink to discover and develop critical cocktail skills. I learned two key lessons from making the Daiquiri at home. 1. How to balance the sweet and sour notes for my palate (I lean slightly sweet) while maintaining the signature lime bite of the Daiquiri. 2. How to shake for proper chill, dilution, aeration, and integration.

I make daiquiris as a template to try things, (bitters, syrups, etc.) so I've had quite a few daiquiris that were odd colors. Also, I use whatever rum I'm drinking that month, not always a Cuban style, so even then they're rarely bright white. My favorite uses Plantation 3 star, agave syrup, lime, and a fat dash of orange bitters.

Hey Anders, I love your take on this. I have actually read through some of the old Daiquiri recipes. Some did include modifiers (I.e. a dash of grenadine, or curaçao, or maraschino, or bitters). Thanks Anders, Daiquiri has always been my favorite. Here is my version, definitely not a classic, but you should give it a try if you haven’t already.. -45ml White rum (Plantation 3 Star) -15ml Dark rum (Appleton estate 12years) -15ml Cointreau -20ml fresh lime juice -20ml semi rich simple Syrup (1,5:1) I recommend adding a little more of both Syrup and Lime (up to 5ml each depending on your limes and your preference of course), otherwise the Cointreau can be quite dominant and destroy a otherwise beautifully balanced drink. If done correctly you add an interesting dimension to this Cocktail with the Cointreau and the dark rum. Serve up and enjoy :) cheers!

I am happy to find that others make a “Dark Daiquiri”, and I enjoy both variations. For the classic Daiquiri I use Bacardi Heritage which is 89 proof and distilled in Mexico. My favorite cocktail. My favorite recipe is; 2 oz Barbados White rum 1 oz LIme Juice 2 tsp of a homemade granulated sugar mix made of 4 parts Cane Sugar, 1 part demerara stirred with the lime juice prior to adding the rum to the mixing tin. The Barbados White has a hint of a rum/floral note to it's taste without being sharp or sweet. The sugar mix is from BeachBum Barry the "Tiki Historian" and owner of Latitude 29. It conveys a clean sweetness with a touch of depth to the flavor.

Since you ask, my preference for a Classic Daiquiri is to use Bacardi white label. Unimaginative, I know, but it's basically designed for Daiquiris. The best rum for Daiquiri, in my humble opinion, is really close to just mixing your two choices: Foursquare Probitas/Veritas. Foursquare is the original distiller for Real McCoy, and Probitas is a blend of Barbados and Jamaican (Hampden Estate, rather than Hamilton) rums. I like making a Daiquiri as part of deciding about a new rum: Have it neat, with a drop of water, with an ice cube, and in a Daiquiri.

I've always considered daiquiris my #1 favorite cocktail. People always look at me weird when I say that because they think I'm talking about the overly sweet frozen ones. I think Flor De cana extra seco makes the best clean daiquiri, but I do love dark ones as well, and the best daiquiris I've had in bars here in Portland have always been dark ones. Amusingly, the best daiquiri I ever had was at the whiskey library lounge. They were doing these banana daiquiris with doctor bird rum and I don't know what else but they were just perfect in every way. I had like 5 of those that night. I've been trying to recreate it at home with what I have on hand, using creme de banane and various rums. They're good but not on the level of what I had at that bar.

Recently discovered the Royal Bermuda 🇧🇲 Yacht Club Daiquiri recipe which has become my favorite.
