There’s a lot to like about this hire…..for one, I love that he’s not a players coach, as much as I liked certain things that DQ was able to do here, like getting this defense to force more turnovers, at the end of the day, a payers coach rarely makes it long term. It just doesn’t work out. Secondly, Zimmer has rarely had a bad defense in the NFL, he’s a very solid/sound defensive coach. Lastly, I love that he has had some success against Shanahan, I hate SF and badly want the Cowboys to get past them.

You do a Good Job! I found out a little earlier that Zimmer was hired. And your commentary echoed my thoughts and opinions about the hiring. I was disappointed back when Jerry hired Qinn and I have been criticizing Dan Quinn very negatively, especially the last 2 years. I'm glad and relieved that he is gone. Good Offensive Coordinators kick his ass almost routinely.

For me, this season was when I started to fully realize the problem with Dan Quinn. Since the Arizona Cardinals game in week 3, I have been very critical on Quinn on his inability to make adjustments on run defense and even the secondary. His defense was only “good” when playing against bad teams or when the Cowboys’ offense is carrying the game with a sizable lead. Outside of that, Dan Quinn was terrible against teams with great offenses like the 49ers, Seahawks, Bills, Dolphins, and the Packers. The Cardinals were the only losing team that torched up the Cowboys defense. They almost lost to the Seahawks because of the defense (mostly Bland for getting fried) tho but Dak bailed their asses out at the end of the game.

@@bryana8958For me was the Seattle game was the true inflection point. Defense got torched & his issue wasn't actually the run defense. When you look at the stats the main issue was in the passing defense. Buffalo & Arizona were the 2 games where they got killed in the run D. Also let's not forget they let Miami & Detroit walk right down the field at the end of those games.

Defends against the run first which is good because Dallas can't stop the run. Likes a monster nose tackle which is bad because Dallas doesn't have one. Likes double A gap linebackers that can blitz or drop back to cover which is bad because the linebacker room meets in a phone booth. He has good/great defenses with the right personnel so there's gotta be some missing parts added. Big time.

Perfect? The hyperbole is off putting. Zim is tough and has had good success as a D Cord. Recently, as a HC, not so much. He has been out of the league for a couple years now, no one was beating down his door. Let's keep perspective. For what the job was, he was the only person who was ever going to get the job, a 'prove it' deal with a lame duck HC all bc you have a relationship with the Jonses.

That defensive line coach is trash . I’m sorry, he needs to go. All of them should’ve got sent packing lol. Except Al Harris and Joe Whitt. Everyone else should’ve got shit canned. And I would love to see this defense running a base 3-4 concept putting OSA at Defensive end with d-law on the other side and mazi at the NT. Move Damone and overshown to MLB . Parsons at the OLB and sign or draft the other OLB. Marquise bell at Safety would be nice too. Just a dream but I’m allowed to dream.

@DoubleMove I know how you feel about Rex Ryan. BUT....... I eent back and watched Rex games as a coach and a Coordinator. He run a REALLY complex defense. That is the bad thing. But he called some really good games. I think Zimmer is more fundamental. But Rex confused QBs. Ximmer does it dome but Rex challenges the intellect. I think he could still be a great DC.

As a fan I went all in last year. Starting in the off season I watched the draft, gave praise to the free agent pick ups, relied on hope for the resigning of Hankins, begged for mazi Smith to be able to plug the gaps. Then came the regular season and I gave, for the first time, props to dak for putting it "all" together during a stretch mid to late season. I looked past the sf game, Buffalo game and Miami game. Then the playoff game against the number 7 seed set me back to what I've been watching for almost 3 decades now. No heart, no courage, crappy gm and owner, 1 and done unless we get lucky and 2 and done in the playoffs, dak being dak, defense no showing, a crappy draft pick coming up, more guys needing to get paid, an offensive and defensive line needing to be upgraded, and overall....another punch in the gut as a cowboy fan. I'm 51 and will not spend another minute watching them until they reach the conference championship game. I was born and raised in Dallas so I'm cursed with them and refuse to root for another team. Wake me up when Jerry kicks the bucket and we can contend again!

Mike Vrabel was my choice But yeah... Zimm was the most PROVEN (doesn't mean best choice) However, Me myself.... I'd preferred we elevated Joe Whitt Jr. to Assist HC but overseer of the defense, Aden Durde to DC and Al Harris to Pass Gm Coord to reset, but keep continuity That way, all of these key guys would've had better titles tht would've kept them away from. Most announcers said Dallas had a top 5 Defense this last season only to have them give up 48 points in a home playoff game. They were complete trash and I said that mid season when they started to allow too many points. I simply havent trusted the Dallas Cowboys since The Triplets Left.
