When Richard Todd was asked in an interview about why the 'Dam Busters' was not made in colour he explained the reason mainly was because of the model shots as he said ' They couldn't go around blowing up real dams' so they made models also some scenes were from original film at the time so they made it in black and white.

The main thing about the ending of this film is that Richard Todd having been an officer knew how to wear a uniform and behave towards civilians and NCOs. Just watch how he walks away, an NCO crosses his path, they salute and then go on their way.

Don't forget to give a big round of applause to Leighton Lucas who augmented the score by keeping just the main part of the march and dropped Coates' swing section. The score was something Coates had kept in a drawer and was not written specially for the film.

An interesting attempt. The titles say the music was done by a Prague Orchestra. The Dambusters was meant to be in black and white...it could have been made in colour in 1955. The format, script, music, acting and all except special effects were and are perfect. The idea of a changed format (wide screen) is nonsense. This film was not meant to fit into the modern idea of sensationalist entertainment: it is a tribute to those who carried out the raid. The original format allowed intercutting with newsreel footage. It cannot be improved upon.

The original is from Eric coates, this version is from the R.A.F band itself.
@DavidLevinEnt3 жыл бұрын
@@laps_san8505 Also, there's a variation of the Coates Hymn above--I call it, "The Mission Theme". While everyone who knows this film knows that there's no music during the Raid, there IS a moving version of the above Hymn as the crews are lounging on grass next to the tarmac below the control tower. Some are playing cards, others miniature (pocket) chess, etc. Cmdr. Gibson is walking up to the Squadron Commanders to tell them "It's time!" and they all rise to get on the lories that take them to their specially-fitted Lanks. It starts as a dirge and is softly and beautifully played! That is MY favorite variation of the Hymn! For those musicians out there, it starts on a Dm7.

I was watching it yesterday and thinking that rather than panic about "Trigger", all it needs to be back in cimeas is to be colourised, upgraded to HD and a couple of scenes improved with CGI (the model Lancaster fire/explosion and the Upkeep bomb "hand edits" for example). The acting holds up well, original footage and the scenes filmed with actual Lancasters will never be bettered.

What ever happened to Peter Jackson's remake of The Dambusters? The Lord of the Rings trilogy was great: The Hobbit trilogy was rubbish, in my opinion. I only hope that one day, Jackson will see sense and get on with a remake of The Dambusters, which COULD be great .. . . if done well.

I just finished reading the Max Hastings book on Operation Chastise and he kept the dogs name, it was history. He did acknowledge it was an unfortunate name in the forward. I hope they don't remake the movie.
