So there was enough time to apply the name SS Botany Bay to the spacecraft before it launched, huh?🤔

The Ship would have needed an aerodynamic fairing until it left most of the atmosphere.

Incredible work. This little video-snippet had an a great story that really provided a background for Khan Singh. Too bad that Star Trek didn't have more of this story in the movies.

If khan left in 1996, he most likely had watched "Friends" reruns. No wonder he was so pissed off.

But now in 21st century (same storyline), but instead of genetically advanced humans, it's the development of Artificial Intelligence. If you have seen the 2024 movie "Atlas." The similarities are uncanny. Atlas is basically the story of Khan as an A.I. who leaves earth to build an army to destroy humans on earth. Another similar storyline, is the Terminator franchise.

I don't think they'd launched it as such. I think they either would have added some kind of hull to make it more aerodynamic or assembled it in orbit. When this thing goes 11 km/h there are a lot of forces working on it.

It just got darker somehow. I think something is wrong with the video's lighting.

This is screaming to made into a fan-created episode/ series....perhaps as "Star Trek: Archives" that addresses some of stories touched upon in TOS.

Maybe somebody has already pointed it out, but I was trying to read the dedication plaque floating in space. One thing missing from it is it's construction site. According to the TNG technical manual, it was built at Earth station McKinley.

Kirk and his crew certainly would wear their dress uniforms when the Enterprise returned to undergo major redesigning and refitting and then they would be getting new uniforms sometime later.

Posted nearly 13 years ago, and I find it today. My "Star Trek: Ships of the Line" wall calendar's image for this month shows exactly this, just some time later with her new nacelles fitted and the new command deck being installed. Same gantry around her, same lovely curves of the same lovely ship. The paradox of "the ship of Theseus" asks if, when every part of a ship is replaced, is it still the same ship? My answer is, yes. A ship is designed to be maintained, to be kept up to date and in good repair. All of her parts being replaced is included in what she is, therefore she is the same ship.

Anyone read "The Lost Years" novels? They cover what the crew were up to during the time span between the final episode of TOS and TMP. Interesting reading. This would be a great opening to a fan produced adaptation of those novels. Axanar really screwed the pooch for fan made productions.

Enterprise's age was past 40 years as mentioned in The Animated Series, which supposedly took place about a year after the third season of TOS. So its age when entering refit would be 40+. Time enough for a refit for sure. Too bad we never saw an episode of TOS bringing the ship to spacedock for the refit. It'd have made a nice series conclusion.
