I know that's how they showed the ship lifting off. But there's technology of today that we use to hold satellites inside rockets and missiles now for aerodynamics. Since you brought up early forcefields, I can see a compromise that shaped the forward enough to allow aerodynamics, and add in that the rest was the first use of polarized hull tech. This was well done. With the shift in time, I can kind of see it happening around 2053... (with Khan leaving a good bye present in the form of a nuclear war). Well done. And I liked the music!

The war with the Klingons is the original timeline. They changed it by sending the E-C back in time, to create the series we finally saw. Had they not sent the E-C back, nothing would have changed. The entirety of TNG and beyond is the altered timeline.

Watching more closely @2:48', the alien vessel is curiously federation-like, as if series designers at the time were already toying with some triangular shapes for future ships of Starfleet ! Anyway, great moment.

That’s quite the promotion from captaining the small Stargazer & losing it to then get command of the flagship of the fleet sometime later.

Earth must be pretty close to the edge of the galaxy to such a primitive ship to make it there.

Outstanding video & very accurate about the reluctance of Starfleet captains to use their ships firepower. This video & Picard in Yesterday’s Enterprise are the prime examples. Picard should have fired continuously on the 3 Klingon ships. He could have easily destroyed them. He would have lost his ship & crew had the C not gotten through the portal. It’s no wonder that the Federation was about to lose the war. C’s Captain had to die for a photon torpedo to be used. I guess this is why it’s sci-fi…the Federation would be a minor power based on its fighting tactics.

It’s not as well-known, but David’s death is almost an exact copy of a famous character death in 1986’s ‘Day of the Dead’ by George Romero. I saw Shaun in theaters with my friends when it first came out. The moment David’s happened, everybody else was hiding their eyes and going “Omg!” and I was cracking up laughing because I was the only who got the reference. Needless to say, everybody in the theatre thought I was one sick bastard after that!😂
