I am an amateur sumo ... our community has a very different view on fitness than most. It really comes down to function and not form. Fitness is not appearance ... it is function. Function .. is an individual choice. Different types of fitness for different functions. We joke that in sumo ... every day is leg day and that eating is training, sleeping is training, resting is training ... all of which is actually true if you want to sumo for a long time. If you watch an interview worth the professionals they always talk about "doing my brand of sumo" because the real opponent is always yourself. The other person is just there to help you along that path of self discovery. Winning and losing is less important than doing your brand of sumo. We need more of that in our culture Strength ... I have really gown to loathe this word and the societal concept (almost imperative) that is associated with it. Strength is not just muscles ... strength of values, character, conviction, kindness, emotions, resilience, community, vulnerability ... we need to step away from the meathead muscle bound notions of strong. Strong is not just anger. I loved this video. It is what is needed and needs to be heard and promulgated. it is a stand for decency.

Thank you very much for this video. I've been involved in this culture for years and I have looked down on others because of my obsession with fitness. With this video I've realised that I have been in an "us vs them" mentality for my entire life. And this video has made me realise how I've had such a massive lack of empathy. And I have been trying to work harder to cure my sadness for YEARS, and today this video has helped me figure out that working harder ≠ good mental health. It's gonna take a very long time to figure out how to get this idea out of my head and how to be more empathetic towards those around me, but this video is step 1. So as an 18 year old male who's trying to figure out my position in this life, thank you ever so much for helping me learn how to critically analyse those I listen to. Because that's what I haven't been doing when listening to these people and that's why I've been struggling with mental health for years.

Being a person that has become physically disabled, I know that there are many more ways to be helpful and to take care of their families. Emotional and spiritual support to your family is much more important than being strong. If your family feels neglected, not what you think about how much of your time they deserve, but if they lack the feeling of being loved and cared for, wives are often driven to cheat and children grow up feeling lost and will connect with anyone they can no matter how bad the person or group is. That is one of the main drivers that cause young people toward gangs and terrorists groups. Adversely, it also can cause children and people to become withdrawn and feel hopeless. Those are the types of people who often are more easily to commit suicide, murder, and mass shootings! While physical health has an impact on your emotional well-being, not being well mentally is in a large part of why the world is in the state it is. Broken homes and families often come from those affected by it themselves and perpetuate broken homes infinitely unless one in the line recognizes this and makes a change.

would you prefer not to be physically disabled?
@bandanabanana3162 Жыл бұрын
@do_odman of course, I miss being able to do anything I want to do, but I have learned so much from my new circumstances that I had never thought of before. I think that change is a good thing for everyone to go through. It wakes you up to different senses and a different point of view. Often, people who deal with a drastic change like I am become very bitter and angry. I know that because I did. I was the guy that everyone called when they had a problem or needed help with their house, car, work, or whatever. I could work 12 hour shifts seven days a week and still accomplish helping others, keep my lawn always freshly cut, play with my children, and make love to my wife every day and after 4 hours of sleep get up and do it all over again. I was in great physical shape, and I had great health. I was so busy that I didn't realize just how much I was missing in my life. My children needed more than a couple of hours to spend together, and my wife needed more than to just make love! If I were to get better, from whatever this is that the smartest doctors in the US can't figure out, I would no doubt fall back into that same routine. I miss my work, and I miss helping others. Now I am the one who has to ask for help. December 28th will mark 13 years since I was last able to work. Sadly, it has only been in the last couple of months that I have gotten my head out of my ass and realized all of the things I mentioned above. My children are pretty much grown and have their own personality and the flaws I see in those personalities that I now see, were because of who I was when they were little and who I was before I woke up. I can't get those years back. All I can do is be a better example now and be present mentally and physically to help them with the problems they face. I don't know why my wife is still here up to this point, but I am glad that she is. Now, I am learning how to be the husband she needs and not just the husband she has. We have always loved each other for more than 29 years. My bitterness almost cost me the love of my life. We are coming up on our 22nd anniversary, and I realize that I have so much more to give than what I was. So, if I could choose to go back to the way I was, a couple of months ago, I would have said yes, but now I would not. By being humbled, I feel like I am becoming a better man, dad, and husband. Now, I have more time to devote to God through prayer and study. I have become a better person in every way.

I see the point you are trying to make with this video. it was summed up well near the 17 minute mark. But it seems you have completely missed Jordan Peterson's points. Make your bed, respect others, speak the truth, think clearly, pet a cat, follow a routine, don't waste your time as a young person. I used to listen to him at length, especially in a dark part of my life where I had no direction and didn't know how to be effective and it made a hugely positive impact. Listening to "extremist" content creators like Jocko WIllink, David Goggins, Andy Frisella, Hamza, Jordan Peterson, Bedros Keuilian saved my life. I don't know about Andrew Tate, I don't care to ever listen to his content but to throw out the point of the message because they said several things you disagree with or didn't like is ridiculous and one of the main plagues of this echo chamber society. You made good points Adam, it is not wise to let one's own ego control one's life. and that is the root of all the problems you mentioned. people tie they ego into their work ethic, their body, their relationships. It is a weak person who lets their ego control them, they wrap up the idea of "being a man" or a "boss babe" or whatever into their entire identity. Of course they would be so judgmental and elitist to those who don't have the same traits they so worship within themselves. Live your life, live in a way that you can respect, live your life fulfilling your particular purpose, whatever it be.

I, like the bioneer, dislike a lot of the manosphere in general, but I've watched all of the above and respect them. They're actually examples of positive masculinity. Nowhere near as toxic as Tate, in fact I think they're a force for good, and its important to recognise that there is a difference in the values they propagate. Peterson tells us how to get our life together and live honourably. They're telling men to take responsibility and be good, strong men. Tate is just encouraging people to be materialistic psychopaths, who treat women like property.

Likewise, they will encourage the participation of their organizations, in the terms established by law. The specific needs of WOMEN and minors with disabilities will be particularly addressed." In Spain there were already 300 organic laws that favored women. Now its constitutional= men are inferior to women. I have a yourger brother. Since he was 12 the he has received speaches from organizations that are are at least, are gender confrontational. They acused the boys of the class of missoginists. Age 12. There are articles that say that generation Z is going to be the most polarized between men and women in Spain. Left-wing actresses scandalized that their children are right-wing. 16-17-year-old kids making life miserable for philosophy teachers with pink-painted hair and hammer and sickle tattoos on their waists. All this is happening in my country. And all this was not started by the four right-wing philosophers in my country. This is a counterculture and there are people who will want to take advantage of it. There is a very big problem and the dominant social and political structures in my country, most of them are left-wing, have not known how to respond. What's more, not only do they not respond adequately to iron out rough spots, but they constantly antagonize. The thing is that the ones how offer the RedPill are not good people. Tha is a different question. Regarding Peterson talking about Climate Change... Sure thing. Hi Bioneer, while I for sure agree with you that "just work out" is not a cure for mental illnesses or depression. However, I do believe that making exercise a habit can be a cornerstone for beating it. I say this because I can attest to it from personal experience. When you exercise your body releases feel good chemicals (adrenalin, dopamine and serotonin). Also it makes you feel a sense of accomplishment. This can carry over to other aspects of life as you now have momentum. So while "just work out" might not solve the issue, I also feel like vilifying people who say "just work out" isn't the right approach either. The way the message is delivered may be inconsiderate blunt and simple, but there is value in it. I think it is a shame whenever this message is provided in a narcissistic and arrogant way and with a lack of empathy or thought.

I may make a video about mental health and fitness in future - there is certainly more to discuss. You’re absolutely right, it can be a huge help for many people for a host of reasons. That said, depression comes in many forms and has many causes. In some cases you have chronically low levels of serotonin and other neurotransmitters. Intrusive thoughts, extremely low energy. Saying “working out might help” is excellent advice. Saying “if I had a life like “those people” I’d be depressed” or “working out is better than antidepressants” is so not okay. That’s from another fitness KZbinr who I don’t want to name and shame (I nearly did in the video but thought better of it). When you boil it down, men aren’t allowed to have men only spaces. Anytime men’s issues are brought up with serious grievances the *only* people that listen are people that are in the same boat, while everyone else retorts “men aren’t the only ones suffering” You literally said it yourself, bringing up one group’s issues doesn’t mean other groups aren’t suffering, yet men’s groups are constantly being dismantled by outside forces like society as a whole or governments or activist groups etc

@zacarianelson5753 that's just not true mate there are loads of men only spaces. Look at sports teams for example. The reason a lot of mixed spaces offer women only sessions is that a lot of mixed spaces can quickly become male dominated (unintentionally)pushing women out. As a demographic middle income cis gender white men do need any extra help in taking part in anything except care of the young and old which is done primarily women often limiting their ability to take part in other aspects of society. Of course on an individual level are just as likely to need help or support as anyone else. As for "men's issues" most genuine campaigning is done by feminist's, women and particular mothers (the greatest supporter of young men) whether it's in the form of employment rights such as paternity leave, equal pay, flexible working, male suicide,you name it. Online "mens rights activists" seem to be solely about setting up a false notion of feminism and then knocking it down.
@lionofistanmusic7311 Жыл бұрын
@@barnzss Very nice take. An argument can be made that both genders have unfair expectations made of them, and I think it's true for both, and that too often in these kinds of discussions, people frame it with a false dichotomy, that only one gender has it bad etc. It's just simplistic thinking. People of both genders suffer for different reasons, and people of both genders are capable of putting too much focus on that suffering and areas outside of their control, too much focus on lack (victim mentality), and not enough focus on self-responsibility, self-determination, inertia etc. When we externally blame, we give away all our power, our power to create and be a part of the future we want.

We can either blame technology and social media or blame the educational system or maybe even blame parents for following the advice of men who 'preach'. However, we spin it the society we are all living in is being neglected by all of us. This idea of becoming 'strong' and resilient comes from the fact that is it a cold world for most young men. Unless you had a loving family home and stable upbringing sometimes the ideas of just work hard is a safety blanket that does give at least in my experience short term relief from pain I've felt in my life.

However, I would like to provide a point of view that might make you reconsider some of the points in this video. When I was 16 years old, I was in a deeply messed up state. I had no direction, goals, accountability, discipline, or character. I was also very frustrated in my social circle, because I was always excluded from the group of my school. Then, I discovered Jordan Peterson, through his series on the symbolic meaning of the Bible. In each lecture he was giving great advice on how to conduct yourself better and find meaning in life. Thanks to him I sorted out what was really important in my life, what I needed to pursue, and how to do it. From the content of this video, it is quite clear that you view the Peterson/men self-help space without much nuance. It is compelling to put together everything that comes from a different ideological view and call it all "bad", but in reality things like Stoicism, Personal Responsibility, and beliefs that stem from Conservatism and Religiocity have the capacity to make greatarguments and provide good guidance. Ultimately, I fear that this video is very much driven by political ideology, and not by objective and fair reading. I hope this was helpful!! 👍

What's medical malpractices done on children without parental consent, such as developmentally stunning puberty blockers and irreversible sexual reconstruction surgery, have anything to do with "protecting" entitled leftists' hurt feelings? The gays and lesbians communities are now united to condemn the transgender agendas, especially now that "gender is a social construct" is itself a social construct.

Okay, I generally agree with your overall point, but the claim that Jung has never been taken seriously by other psychologists is ahistoric unless you define "psychology" as only consisting of a cherrypicked lineage like "Freud then Skinner then CBT then EFT" or something. Just the existence of clinical practitioners who overlap with Arnold Mindell's process work approach, discredits that. You're overall point stands, but these here are some academic fightin' words that maybe got used a little too casually, ya know?
@TheBioneer Жыл бұрын
I do admit they were used too casually, and I actually like Jung in parts. Others have mentioned the same, and I feel a little cringe about it now. My issue is with the way Peterson wields him. Just as he wields various personality theories as though they are indisputable - because he knows that saying a name the layperson vaguely-recognises-but-hasn’t-read will win him arguments. But yeah, my bad there. I got carried away, sorry.

Hey, no worries. Rhetoric kinda exists to carry people away, including the one who speaks it, ya know? 😊 Hard agree about how Peterson uses... Gosh, most everyone I've heard the man cite. Absurd misunderstanding seems his academic speciality; it'd be really funny if he turned that toward standup instead of spiritualizing.
@EonRifft Жыл бұрын
I agree with some stuff, don't agree with some others, same for Jordan Peterson, I can filter through the bs that is meant as rallying cries to the incel fanbase to look at him as a father figure. I don't agree with JP's stances on blaming Ukraine for the war or on climate change, but some of what he has wrote in his books (I've not watched much of his videos comparatively) is pretty good to apply to your life i.e. 12 antidotes to chaos and improving a room or aspect of your life at a time. Of course he has a bias, he is religious, does that mean Adam does not have a bias? Everybody has a bias and people that claim not to have one should not be trusted. I used to watch more of Adam's content, but one that rubbed me the wrong way was a short where he complained about people in the fitness industry being toxic, then to make his point more he mentioned some nihilistic thing about how nothing we do matters cause we will be dust or something later. Dude, you have a psychology degree, you're talking about toxicity, but you will happily invoke existential dread in people (whom might not even be toxic) just so you can bring your point home more.., cause that was a dickhead move. You mentioned assholes, in my experience at college and university (top 20 UK one, comp sci), the biggest assholes were the people studying psychology or sociology. From the bitch that made up lies of sexual harassment so she could get extra days to study for an exam, or the American queer guy that had adopted the pretense of making friends then tried to put his hands down my pants and then use his sexuality as a defence so he could avoid punishment/blame, or one of the various psych student lunatics that I lived with that was so disturbed she resorted to complaining that I was some type of proverbial gremlin of the wing of the plane and sabotaging everything even when I was not in town. See, I can stereotype entire groups too if I want to. I don't take steroids, I don't encourage anybody to take them beyond what a doctor prescribes for an injury, but if you are damning steroids as being risky in one instance then why defend transgenderism in another, so there is no problem with the current path forward where kids will be be given puberty blockers, screw with their organs and make their bones weaker, but steroids, damn those are the real evils of the world! Is Noel Deyzel dead? This is meant facetiously, but you know Batman was chemically enhanced :3. No, they are risky, but if people want to make informed decisions to take them then that's their decision, hopefully they consult a doctor a long the way. I get you are speaking from a point of compassion and you just don't want people to discriminate against people because they belong to x group, but if you are advocating for something then maybe do more research. Go look up David Reimer that was forced into trans and later suicided, you've got kids dude, a lot of people do, and they are not comfortable with that stuff being pushed on them at school. If people want to be queer or pretend they are the opposite sex, I am fine with that, go pretend, just don't complain if you can't use your biological advantage in competitive sports, and leave my kids alone.., kids are not mentally mature enough to know anything. I have had people try to get me to "transition" before, so I know it is bs by a lot of fetishists. You demonize a but are fine with b because it is virtue signalling. We know there is toxicity in the fitness community, but people on the left can be toxic, centralists can be toxic, it is not a political thing, people can have different values or beliefs to each other but be perfectly civil. I mentioned psych and social science students were douchebags at uni cause they were, they analyzed people like they were animals in some cases; a form of intellectual snobbery. The problem is not the "manosphere" or the "feminazi" or whatever conspiracy theory people can think of, the problem is our increasingly digital lives and how people do not connect with one another on a personal basis anymore; social media is a disease. The problem is people forming parasocial relationships with certain online influencers and believing all they say, or that it is so easy to enter an echo chamber nowadays since you can find your own group that agrees with everything you say, and thus you avoid any form of nuanced opinions. Anyways, if you read this Adam, I don't care if you have differing views to me on some stuff (pls avoid invoking depressing shit in your shorts though), I appreciate you being different and I want to thank you for your books and your regular no bs fitness content. You're one of the online fitness paragons with Jax, Sean Nalewanyj and some others that don't spring to mind atm. I don't know you personally, but I think you're a cool and nice dude. If you find you videos on your YT recommending you don't like then just keep clicking do not recommend/do not recommend the channel, eventually it will align with what you want. You are in great shape, but you're not Atlas, you can't bear the weight of the world. Take care of your own mental health too, if the stuff online bothers you too much then take a break from online.

Thanks for being a voice of reason amidst all the BS! I hate it that seemingly everything on social media must take on these extremes and get blown out of proportion. I think you made some really good points here. It's just so sad, that the good messages this all started with (to paraphrase): "You will have a longer, more active, more awesome life if you stay healthy and in shape" get blown out of proportion to "you will only be happy if you become an alpha that deadlifts 300 kgs, runs marathons, has 3 women at all times. and owns at least one business." The amazingly great point about fitness for me, was that it allowed me to explore places and do jobs that my couch potato-ass would not have been capable of without. The thing with fitness, as with everything in life is this factor of "good enough". Your fitness should match your goals and lifestyle. Unless you are (or want to become) a professional athlete in any field, you don't have to go crazy in order to achieve those, you just have to be fit enough (... to go on a hike, work a long shift, be a good husband and father etc. etc. etc.). Same goes for the depression argument. Will a workout routine cure real depression? Likely not. You can't magically cure your brain by lifting weights. But: Will it get you out of a slump you are in because you don't have structure und don't know what to do with your life? Very likely yes, because it will act as a starting point, give you structure and discipline and just allow you to do more fun stuff. But these days the terms just get thrown around interchangeably and as you very truthfully stated, can do more harm than good.

Whilst I don't think fitness always cures depression I do feel like it's very hard to get out of depression when you're eating like crap, sitting on the couch all day, sleeping late and not getting any sun. And this is not redpillism, it's science. Fitness won't always cure your depression but ignoring fitness completely when dealing with depression it's not a very smart choice. PS: Fitness and discpline DID cure my depression, anxiety and self steem and I do understand that it worked by me does by no means mean it will work for everyone.

@Denidrakes6911 ай бұрын
The test is, if something unexpected comes up, and you've planned to train, can you stop without notice, without anxiety kicking in? I couldn't. I could drop anything for exercise, but I couldn't drop exercise for anything or anyone. At that point, I was just madly trying to use the serotonin and dopamine I got from exercise, to calm my depression. That works just as well for depression, as any other drug a person might be addicted to as a coping/survival mechanism....as in, it doesn't. You tend to need to do more to get the same effect and when you can't a type of withdrawal sets in.
@Paroex11 ай бұрын
I think it comes down to the fact that there's a wide spectrum of what depression can mean in everyday parlance, from feeling kinda blue but for a prolonged time, to literally not getting out of bed when needing to urinate because it is completely overwhelming. While the mind is extremely strong and influential over the body, this can also work to our detriment. If it's in a bad enough place, it can prevent a person from doing things just as effectively as a debilitating disease or injury. For someone in a deep clinical depression, getting up early, exercising, and otherwise "having your shit together" is as impossible and insurmountable as running a 5K for someone with a severed spine. Physical exercise is a great preventative, but less of a great treatment, when it comes to more serious clinical cases due to a chemical imbalance. If you're in a bad enough place mentally, ignoring fitness is not a "choice" any more than it is for someone in an iron lung.

Honestly, to criticize Peterson this way means to not know a heck about him. And to put him in the same can as Tate is astounding. Honestly, Adam, I thought much better of you. Apart from the fact that Peterson speaks seldom if ever of training and it's role in society. You are using this video, which could be useful and necessary, to attack someone for something entirely unrelated. And BTW, every single thing you said about him about...things not existing and being used incorrectly...you DO realize it's not enough for YOU to say it is like that, you know? You have to PROVE IT. And yes, THERE ARE A LOT OF PEOPLE ATTACKING MALES. There just are, it's ridiculous to deny it. And Peterson'S influence has helped so many people in trouble. How can you diminish and deny that? And BTW, yes, there ARE, scientifically, things that can help people out of depression, and phisical training IS one of them. Now, does this mean if one just starts working out, all of his problems will be magically solved? No, and WHO EVER SAID THAT?

I second this so much. Jordan’s helped me tremendously, and having seen Adam’s article on him and Andrew Tate (again, miles apart, as Jordan himself has pointed out), it made me want to vomit. I’ve bought both of Adam’s Superfunctional Training books, and commend him for sparking such excitement in me for fitness, but his takes on Jordan are so superficial and cookie-cutter. Whenever I see arguments like these, I’m consistently anxious, since I need to evaluate if I’m being indoctrinated into the “alt-right”, but having seen so many, I’ve come to the conclusion that people criticising him very often are just casting stones. I know that Jordan’s words have brought me out of some very dark places, and I know that Adam’s stuck to this for long enough that he’s likely not to listen, so I genuinely wish him the best and hope he might change his mind regarding these issues.

The truth seems to me, is somewhere in the middle. On the subject of mental health, we know that being physical is linked to better mental health. And in a chaotic environment, where things seem to be out of control and hopeless, the one thing you actually have control over and can do something about is your health and fitness. You control what you put into your body and how much movement you do. It may not be a fix for depression, but attacking it with a healthy body is not a step in the wrong direction. Bioneer has a point that emotional intelligence is absolutely necessary. I would add to that, that it's great when trying to maintain lasting relationships, but it's hard to make a second first impression. The world treats a man different when he is fat vs fit. That's the truth. No one sees a fat guy and instinctively thinks control, discipline, capable. That's why Samo Hung is so awesome. He's fat and crazy acrobatic. He is an anomaly. If he were the same size as Jackie Chan and Yuen Biao. He wouldn't have gotten the roles he did. And people can live their lives as they please up to a point. Depending on how much they let themselves go, they will be someone else's problem.

I love your content normally but wrt depression study after study shows that exercise is the cure for it. On par or better than SSRIs. Of course there is severe clinical depression where people literally get unable to move but let's be honest, most of the internet "I am depressed" crowd does not have that. What they have is too much porn and junk food and too little constructive effort. Eat real food, move your body outside, occupy at least some of your time with constructive pursuits and you will be fine. If you can't do it all at once, that's okay. Start with what you can do and then keep moving in that direction. I know how it is, I was on the couch all day, contemplating suicide. I started with walking just 5 minutes at noon. If I could do it, you can do it too. And no, fitness is not relative. Your BMI, your VO2max, your grip strength, the amount of vigerous exercise you do are determined by science as the most important factors in how old you can get and how healthy you'll be. We know, as much as we know anything, that if you neglect your body you will get sick and die like a dog. We know that lack of excercise doubles (!) your risk of death year over year. And yes, for men, strength is the answer. The only alternative to strength and stoicism is endless suffering.

As someone who struggles with depression and alcoholism, working out does indeed help with that. It makes me feel good about myself, it helps me sleep better. And I do think it could be helpful for plenty of people struggling with depression. Even if the causes for depression lie elsewhere, feeling more physically strong has also helped give me the mental strength to deal with those issues better. At least sometimes. It's not an instant cure and it doesn't make everything better but it does help. The mind is connected to the body; if the body feels bad, the mind feels bad. If the body feels good, the mind feels good. There are of course plenty of OTHER reasons why the mind might feel good or bad, things that have to do with social life, with our childhood, with trauma, with whatever the hell else, and saying "Just do some pushups bruh" to someone dealing with trauma isn't exactly helpful. But it is still true in my experience that working on the body and making that aspect better also helps to improve your mental health. That said, I think there's been a large movement toward fitness from young, aimless men with mental health issues, guided by guys like Andrew Tate and Jordan Peterson, and much of their anger is directed at the previous aimlessness of their lives, which is translated to a social problem of anti-masculinity by previously mentioned guys. And there might be some truth to that, but unfortunately, much of that lost 'masculinity' is let out in the most toxic of forms, because these young men still do not feel mentally well and have a lot of anger toward the world, and more dominant ideologies of feminism or wokeism simply tell them that they're bad, while Jordan Peterson or Andrew Tate fuel the fire of their anger while making them feel worthwhile. We lack a philosophy or ideology to take care of these people that could direct their energy to something more positive. All they hear now is a negative: DON'T be this, DON'T do that. Traditional masculinity says DO that, BE this. It gives you something to aspire to, and people need that.

You say this a mainstream opinion and that can be true to some extent. But I don’t think you realise how many people are exposed to the manosphere and live in that echo chamber. Ironically you’re kind of proving the point by not being emphatic and aware of the situation of peoples lives. There are many boys, young men who are exposed to red pill content and are hurt by it. You dont know what culture they’ve been brought up in, what their friends are like and what they’ve been told from a young age. Red pill content is definitely popular on many platforms so being against will bring hate. I hadn't realized he was so clueless. I'm in my 50s and was red pilled long before it was associated with fitness. It was more about politics and philosophy. This guy is Cypher. He wants to blame fitness influencers for young men doing steroids. I remember steroid abuse long before this guy was old enough to say the word. Lots of my classmates did them, when I was a teenager. He's got the woke mind virus. He seems to think the gender confusion is about equal rights. The gender confusion is part of the demoralization of the West. He mentions Nietzsche. Nietzsche called out the cause and the consequences of this nihilism we see today. Yuri Bezmenov, back in the 80s, describe the word confusions this pronoun BS was supposed to have on the West. He was a KGB agent charged with demoralizing India. Look him up he's got a couple hour long videos on KZbin from the 80s. They will blow your mind.

One point I disagree with is Jordan Peterson’s take on Bill c16. I believe his rationale is that there is no exact and clear definition of what could be seen as a hate crime against transgender people. Therefore the repeated misuse (intentional or not) of someone’s pronouns could be seen as a hate crime which is obviously against the whole idea of free speech. Generally a great video though. I’d love to hear other peoples opinion on this.
@Etazoz Жыл бұрын
The legislative summary of bill c16 gives as an example Ontario Human Rights Commissions "Policy on preventing discrimination because of gender identity and gender expression", where refusing to use someone's preferred name or pronoun is given as an example of discrimination. Bioneer can have whatever opinion he wants, but that is the Canadian government saying that the legislation should be interpreted according to those guidelines, making it criminal to not use the preferred pronouns and names. Bioneer also claimed that JP is notorious for having refused to use the preferred pronouns of his students, something which never happened and was just a hypothetical that was discussed in relation to his critiques of bill c16. He don't seem to have done much research for this video unfortunately.

If you read the actual C 16 legislation, it addresses that “Although the courts have held that freedom of expression includes the freedom to express hatred, even against vulnerable groups, such expression ‘falls far from the core values underlying s. 2(b)’ and ‘does little to promote, and can in fact impede, the values underlying freedom of expression’. This makes restrictions on hate speech easier to justify under s. 1 of the Charter” and then literally says “Individuals found guilty of hate propaganda offences could be punished with up to five years of imprisonment.” *AND* if you actually listen to Dr. Peterson’s issues with the bill, he’s talking about the slippery slope of having a vague and subjective definition of hate speech opens the door to your government deciding what that is, allowing it to silence or punish voices it disagrees with, which is a backdoor from democracy to a totalitarian state, which is what we’ve been seeing with the proven one-sided censorship the gov has been doing with social media.

I think if he were more familiar with Peterson's views he would realize that Tate is not only the exact type of man he warns against becoming, but that the views Adam is expressing in this very video are not in opposition to the things Peterson talks about. Unfortunately i'm hearing a lot of the same misinformed takes that people get from reading inflammatory and divisive articles that take Peterson out of context and distort his actual views. I've heard them so many times before. It's unfortunate when you see two people you admire so much not get along over what you feel is a misunderstanding, and that is what i believe this is. Jordan Peterson and the Bioneer have both made me more humble and more in tune with my sense of empathy for others around me. That is because of their message, not in spite of or in contrast to it. While a lot of depression can come from your circumstances, a lot of people would benifit from the increase in testosterone, goal acievement, and vitamin D imcrease you would get from working out, compared to a sedentary reclusive lifestyle that many people live today. I think where a lot of the red pillers are coming from, is seeing a decaying world that becomes more lazy and toxic by the day. Fattest unsub ever. I just cannot support anyone that is okay with laws that restrict freedom speech which is exactly what Jordan Peterson was fighting against. Putting him in the same category as red pill (which couldn't be further than what he is) is misleading. For example people in the red pill community complain about the "pickiness" of women but JP says that women being picky is their super power and that men should put themselves together and be genuinely competent like caring, reciprocal, generous and productive not just signalling status through narcissism which is what the red pill teaches. He directly called the red pill MGTOW stuff to be spearheaded by resentful losers with failed marriages trying to push their resentment onto younger and less experienced men. Either you're genuinely misinformed or wilfully ignorant to these facts and use it to push your ideology on your viewers and I hope it's the former.

I don't know what you're talking about. I agree with you about depression; I have it myself and have had it all my life. But as for being fit and strong being unimportant to be a useful member of society, emergency and military services, all require a high degree of fitness. But even for those who are not in uniformed services, you never know when you might need physical strength; you get in a car accident and you have to extract your children from the vehicle because it's on fire. What if the door is jammed shut? How are you going to get it open? Or if you're injured or catch any given disease, your survival might depend on how fit you are. The majority of people who died from Covid did so because they had underlying conditions. If you're not fit and strong you easily become ill the older you get and then you're a burden to your friends and family. Again, endless variables. So being fit and strong IS important in your role as a member of society. As for your issues with the "red pill" surge, all of that is an inevitable reaction to decades of the "canellation" counter-culture, where being unapologetically masculine is "toxic masculinity." We've been commanded by the Woke crowd that we must applaud morbidly obese people for the sake of "body positivity" even though such a condition inevitably leads to serious medical conditions. The whole red-pill phenomenon was generated as a reaction to having social political values and ideals rammed down our throats and forced to comply to standards a good many people don't want. I share your disdain for Andrew Tate, but Jordan Peterson? We never completely agree with anyone, but a lot of what he says is true and bear in mind how he first came to public notice; by ridiculing his country's government for trying to criminalize "misgendering" trans people. He rightly said that you cannot morally and lawfully regulate speech through law. He doesn't advocate violence, just a healthy mindset that includes men, who are told by the Woke crowd that they should be ashamed of themselves for being partriarchal. Honestly, I think you're on the wrong side of history for this one.

@thatsagoodone8283 Жыл бұрын
I think you are summarizing Peterson poorly. I have my own issues with him but I'll address them later. Regarding bill c16, it was about freedom of speech, because people would have gained a right to be legally offended by misgendering that they would be punishable. And that would have dictated a certain kind of speech to avoid punishment for basically expressing your own works views. I think that peterson during cathy newman and after his health issue comeback are two different people. I think he was really good when sticking to science and facts. But when he started to talk about religion, it became distorted and now it's a mess infused with opinions, unclear words (hes very sophisticated in his choice of words but it leaves too much for interpretation). I think peterson and also Tate resonate with a lot of people, because ppl tell ppl bullshit. We live life with a lot of bullshit rules and expectations. If you break free from those that subconsciously trouble you and you obtain a life, that makes you happy, trivial things that bother you will fade out. It's responsibility. We all know, that most good things come with effort. But not everyone can do that. At least they don't believe in that. And then you become very receptive to blaming another group for being responsible. Peterson actually made the best recommendation: don't look for a perfect partner. Try to make the ideal version of you to attract the best partner for you. I think this goes to every aspect of life. Don't harbor ill thoughts about ppl you are not going to change. Consider what you can change and if someone brings a lot of negativity, always be careful. Forks and torches are a dangerous thing

I think all that really isn’t mediocre at all. For me being mediocre is to become another number, to live and die and leave nothing behind. To have made an impact on a few loved ones is more important than widespread recognition. I think to exceed mediocrity is to make any impact with your life, be it to your kids, to your loved ones, to your friends. Maybe that is what it is to be a good person. That the life and legacy you left has been a net positive. I think to be great is a different idea altogether. It is to be highly skilled at something. It can be a skill, or it can be at business, or in some academic field. I think it is when you combine great and good that you become truly elevated.

13:30 okay, but you can't deny that other struggling groups are being taught to blame cis/hetro/white/old/men for their struggles. It absolutely is the case that these other groups and minorities are being taught and told to use scapegoats and exactly who and what those scapegoats are. The go to is to literally attack the person for having any of the above traits as the reason for why their ideas or opinions are wrong and why they shouldn't be listened to or allowed to speak or have an opinion on the topic, rather than to refute the idea or argument itself.

@@TheBioneerthe key point is "at least not anyone reasonable". Unfortunately just as the extremes of the right are amplified and spread, so too on the left and within minority spaces. I've seen some quite extreme or frankly bonkers takes once harmlessly confined to naive (predominately American) college students being tolerated or promoted inside large respectable institutions. Look at the harrowing Richard Bilkszto case - an extreme example but one highlighting how harassment, bullying and intolerance can be normalised or even rewarded today in the right circles. I think part of the problem is the many reasonable people just wanting the world to be a better place often are understandably reluctant to challenge or critique minority sources, opinions from those they see as more oppressed, or figures/institutes they otherwise would align with (the "good guys"). It's partly how we end up with controversies like the US BLMGNF at a most generous take "misplacing" donations made by those with good intentions - people unfortunately don't scrutinise certain figures enough when they promote positive messages.

You've said Jordan Peterson is doing more damage to "civil discourse among society" then he is doing good, he literally became famous for defending free speech, and protesting against legally mandated speech. He has spent his entire career defending free speech. You might not like everything he says (and why should you? What kind of ideological hegemony are you looking for here?) but he has absolutely done more to defend civil discourse than almost anyone alive today. He has been attacked by a snarling, hypocritical mainstream media and radical leftist mob throughout all of this, and has been demonised and scrutinised more than pretty much anyone I can think of, all the while maintaining an openness to debate and discussion that very few display. I actually dislike a lot of what he says, but I have infinitely more respect for him than the large majority of public figures who basically stand for nothing. I am fairly sure that you would not have put as much on the line as he has to defend something you believe in, because if you would then you would at least respect what he has done. It's easier for you to buy whatever absolute nonsense the system tells you about why it's needs to control what you do, say and think. Safer that way. Almost everything you are saying in this video fits very neatly and easily into a prescribed, of-its-time, "progressive" (although not really), globalist world view. There isn't really anything smart about that, it's basically just the belief system that was given to you when you were born, and that there is almost no negative consequence for believing in. Trust the science, trust the media, fear the boogeyman. It's not a mindset that will hold up to any robust debate, and it's not really anything other than just a tepid, generic product of the era we lived in. In the 1950s, a guy with your personality type would probably have been banging a completely different drum, quite different from the one you're monotonously banging in this video. Stick to exercise man, you have some great content, but this video is bloody ridiculous.

I’ve answered a lot of these, so I’ll keep it brief. Your observation is a surface level of Jordan Peterson. Read a little deeper and what he’s doing is nothing like defending free speech. He’s pandering to a specific audience, rolling back progress, and disguising it as free speech. He is repeatedly caught out distorting facts, misunderstanding sources, and outright lying to support his points. It’s hard to credit him with any integrity, at this point. This is not the philosophy I was born into, at all. Don’t presume to know my background. This is the conclusion I came to on my own. And don’t assume I’ve done less research, or thought less deeply about this than you.

@BigDome111 ай бұрын
@@TheBioneer So, because you dislike some of what he says, he isn't defending free speech? I think you know there's no logic to that whatsoever. You're essentially saying that in order to credibly defend free speech, he has to meet your standards of credibility and conform to your worldview in every other area of his life. That's not how free speech works. In fact it's pretty much the opposite.
@TheBioneer11 ай бұрын
No - I’m saying if you listen to what he’s really saying, the content has nothing to do with freedom of speech. He uses it as a convenient excuse to stir the pot. He only presents one view and if you look at the pattern of topics he covers, free speech is clearly not his priority. In the example I gave, he misrepresents Bill C 16 and then later says in passing he did that - at least partially - to prevent gender confusion. He shows no interest in freedom of the press. Free speech in totalitarian countries. Etc etc. rather, he goes on to talk about climate change (which he knows nothing about) economics (which he knows nothing about) etc. Then he will say he’s just “sparking discussion.” Except there’s plenty of discussion and he’s actually always putting forward the less progressive view. He does this for marketing (be controversial, get views) and he does it to appease his fans and those funding him. In fact, he says no one should protest unless they have “tidied their rooms” (ie have no baggage). He openly tells students they have no right to protest with their limited worldview. Yet he’s perfectly allowed. Because of course his house is in perfect order… Not exactly a champion for free speech there. Recently, he tells people to become Christian even if they don’t believe in god and adopt those values because “who cares what you believe.” His actual words. Again: he doesn’t care about free speech. I don’t care what his views are, but he is extremely disingenuous in his representation of them.
