A massive thank you to Liam Ellis for filming this video and appearing in it! Also huge thanks to Janik Rajapakse and Grant Stevens for their guest roles.
In this video, I discuss how you would approach training like Solid Snake from the Metal Gear series.
Solid Snake is, of course, known for his stealthy movement and ability to infiltrate enemy strongholds. He uses this ability to overcome insurmountable odds and overwhelming force.
Yet, most of us will focus purely on brute force when training in the gym.
Just as important as max strength and power are abilities like body awareness, control, and mental toughness. It's these skills that will allow you to move and fight like Solid Snake.
In this video, then, I explore how to train like Solid Snake. You know the drill, by now: this isn't a "fun workout inspired by Metal Gear Solid." Rather, it's an in-depth look at the training methods and concepts used by the real-world analogues to Snake and FOXHOUND. I did deep research, spoke with members of the military, and called on my own experience as a functional training (and functional training contacts).
In this video, you will learn to: develop incredible body-awareness and "strength" finesse, absorb impact and move quietly, improve situational awareness, stay calm under pressure, and more.
I went all out on this one! So enjoy this Solid Snake Workout!

About that, apparently Steve Irwin did wrestling on the side. And because he was used to manhandling crocodiles, he was rather good at taking down humans as well.

I used to this through my neighbours backyards. I'd see how far down the street I could get, jumping fences and hiding in bushes before someone, or their dog, saw me. In hindsight, I imagine all the neighbours looking out their windows saying, "there's that weird girl, jumping and flipping behind our bushes again."

Fun fact: that comes as a result of translating pretty directly from Japanese. Backchanneling is much more culturally important in Japanese conversation than it is in English. If you don't do it frequently the speaker thinks you aren't listening. That often means repeating back key words.

Great video! I like that you add a side note on the psychological impact, and that you need adequate recovery for that one as well. It would be great if you could make a video on that subject. What is the fine line between pushing your limits and respecting your boundaries? Doing long rowing sessions help me improve my stress tolerance, but can lead to accumulating more stress through daily life than what I can recover. Probably adding some kind of (psychological) deload would make sense.
