I can't imagine the horror that Kobe must have felt knowing that his daughter was going to lose her life. He would have been more concerned about her and the other kids on the helicopter than himself. I'm not a sports fan by any means but I have never heard anything bad about this man. I'm glad he was there for his daughter. I feel a great amount of sympathy for the family he left behind as well as the other families who lost their loved ones on that fateful day. My best friend lives right by where it happened. We were on the phone and she heard the crash. She said she was shocked someone was flying since it was completely socked in with fog in her canyon. We had no idea who was in the helicopter at the time and she thought maybe it was a news helicopter. It popped up on the news soon after and when we saw it was Kobe, his daughter and her team members and families, we both were in shock. So incredibly tragic 😢

Think you two are missing what's being said. Talking about how he felt like family to the locals of Orange County/LA. Considering how much, and it was a lot, he did of community service and being a part of the community in general, then yes it's very possible for someone to feel like family. Sometimes people in this life treat community and even individuals like they are family (clearly not literally). It can't always be explained but it's a very personal feeling. This person also pointed out even though they weren't into basketball they still respected him. No need to take the family comment quite literal. It's a feeling and matter of respects. Anywho

Grew up watching Kobe on bubbalicious gum commercials, I wasn’t a huge basketball person admittedly. I remember knowing he dominated and we all said Kobe when throwing stuff away. Knowing from all that he was a legendary player. His accident and death really stuck with me and affected me as a mother. I felt like the world grieved together, and my heart hurts for his wife. You deciding not to do a spirit box out of respect for him was so admirable and respectful.

I am a football and baseball nut but have never been a basketball fan but I heard many stories on him and they were all good. It was still a shock for the basketball world to lose such a great ball player and his beautiful daughter along with the others who lost their lives... Thank you Omar and James for doing this. GOD BLESS YOU BOTH.

What is also so very beautiful of this memorial sight is how even the prairie flowers near the crash are Lakers colors

His death was so devastating. My ex who had moved to Canada woke me up with a call to inform me. So glad I skipped work to head to Cali for the last parade and then go back to watch his last Easter game.
