Doug, is not the bigger issue that some person outside the hand starts asking him questions if he should put the rest of it in? Seems kind of out of line having a player at the table trying to fish out information of a guy in a big moment on the river...

I think that betting smaller as a bluff can work really well when your opponent has a weak range. Then you can rep a wider and less polarized range. With that said, his stack on the river was too small to do anything else than shoving.
@EGarrett016 жыл бұрын
Strong bit of info that I hadn't noticed before but is true, when a guy's opponent calls his hand out correctly, the guy will usually say something back really quickly. You can see this a lot on High Stakes Poker and in Daniel Negreanu hands since he's always guessing people's cards out loud. If the guy doesn't answer, he may or may not have that hand, but I don't think I've ever seen someone snap reply when their opponent was misreading them.

Garrett is right. Betting not his full stack makes this look and smell like such a bluff. And it makes any call from Garett easy, he only needs about 35% to call, and almost nothing changed from the turn - where he could have shoved more into a smaller pot on a flush draw - which looks like the Ace of clubs.

@ 9:00 is there not a point where bluffing all-in becomes readable in itself as a bluff, because you are trying to look like you are making the "big" move by going all-in (which is debatable in cash games where these guys are effectively bottomless bank rolls most of the time anyway) so actually making a value size bet becomes the better bluff size to look like you are trying to extract value. I understand it opens up more of their theoretical calling range, I guess it becomes quite stack size dependent between about 60-120% pot?
@fundiver1986 жыл бұрын
Sure. 60% pot is a completely normal bet size, but the closer you get to having a pot sized bet left, the more merit there can be in going for a small bet instead.

It wasn’t Buzz’s talking alone that prompted Garrett to call the bluff. First, Buzz was so super slow in calling the 4-bet preflop. I actually like buzz's hand selection for bluffing here. I dont think flatting a cold 4 OOP in a SPR >2 is a good idea with hands like suited broadways or connectors, or whatever. On an A high board TT seems very close to the bottom of buzz's range, so we bluff with our 10c for equity/blockers and we're targeting garrett's JJ-KK. That all seems very reasonable to me

I think the problem is that Buzz actually thinks his 10's are good. And i'm pretty sure he thinks Garrett is going to call 4k or the full 6,200 with KK, QQ anyways.. so he opts to bet 4k as a blocker. if he checks to Garrett and Garrett just goes "Ok 6,200" then Buzz is forced to commit his stack on what might be a bluff from Garrett. But there isnt much Garrett would have here that would call the turn unless it was a KQ with K clubs.. but thats pretty narrow and not that likely to re-pop preflop.

Although I don't think this is what Buzz was doing, I think there can be situations where you could want to bet smaller on the river to entice the other player to call. That is if you have a really strong hand, not these pocket 10s. Again, I don't think Buzz was doing this, but kinda weird for Garrett to get all up in arms because Buzz didn't shove all in. It's his decision. If he truly thinks he has the best hand, and he thinks Garrett could possibly fold, making a smaller bet than all in is fine. If he thought,big I put in the last 2200, that makes my bet almost half pot, and Garrett may fold, but if I put in just 4k, maybe he will call and I will get paid that 4k extra, rather than nothing. Again, I don't think Buzz was doing this, but for Garrett to call him out is kinda jerky. U can bet whatever I want. If you want to come in over the top and put me all in then fine, but it's my money, my decision. I have a huge pet peeve of people telling me I did something wrong because it wasn't what I was expected to do. That's poker people. I tend to think that you not getting why I made a certain move is a good think. You don't want everyone to know what you are doing at all times.

that guy with the QQs probably calls 6k and change shove just as well as the 4k that was bet on the river. I am unsure what the guy with 10s could have said to get the guy with the QQs to fold. I guess as a player you'd have to develop skills that go beyond actual poker. You have to give off the vibe of having a strong had, the mannerism have to be on par and you have to act a certain way where it subconsciously makes the other player actually believe he is beat.

You have to know your opponent, some people talk with the nuts to make you think there bluffing so it's all table to table dependent on the players you're up against
@kevinsnyder13905 жыл бұрын
Precisely. I've watched presentations by a former CIA operative who explains the best way to catch deception is to see shifts from a person's baseline behavior. It not like most people believe that "if they're doing A, It means B" when for another person it's the opposite. Its always best to observe the shift from a person's baseline behavior. The more you observe (or in this case play) with someone, the more you will determine their baseline

So precise, so methodical. Shame he ruined his rep with the FT fiasco. I still cling to hope that somehow the truth comes out and he emerges clean, but I feel after his shitty apology that it's beyond optimism and into delusion.

Doug I like your videos but you need to fix the audio levels. Your voice is like 2x louder than the table. Don't edit with headphones they give a misleading impression of the dynamic range.

I never lie at the table. Until that one time that I do. I spend a lot of hours during my poker sessions showing my hands. Especially when it's the nuts, or the second nuts, or something really strong. I show regardless if I get called or not. I also verbalize my strong folds when asked. Like some idiot wins a huge pot with his 3-bet 4-6 off suit and flops a straight. Then asks what I folded to his 3-bet and I'm like "Ace Jack". I wasn't lying. Hell, I've folded AK pre flop before. Doesn't matter if I was wrong or not. It matters how big the bet sizes are that I'm up against, and what I know of the player making the bet. So back to my story... I spend a lot of time showing and telling about my strength. And most of the regulars at the Casino know me by now. If I'm in a hand, it's strong. In fact, the more passive I am, the stronger my holdings. I'm pretty sure everybody knows what I'm talking about when I say that if you play live 5-10 hold em or 5-10 PLO, you get a lot of crazy action. Lots of loose gambling. I admit, sometimes I'm too tight. Sometimes I'm waaaaaaaay too tight. But I've developed my strategy after thousands of hours at the table, from my own personal experience. By showing my strength for the first couple or 3 hours I'm at the table, I begin to influence the other players' decisions, and they give me a lot of respect. Depending on who I'm in the hand with, this sometimes means I don't get paid off. Sometimes, I rake small pots with monster holdings. But it's all for a reason. When that one hand comes along, with 3 way action, and a thousand dollar pot is climbing, I can stab at the pot with nothing, and call it a night having made 4-5 times my buy-in, in one hand. That's my strategy. Not saying it would work for everybody. But my biggest strength is my ability to read people. Employing this strategy has allowed me to mostly lose small, and mostly win big. It's probably 60-40. I've bought my last 2 cars brand new in cash, and I built our down payment for a house with my bankroll. I'm not saying that to brag. I'm simply illustrating that the strategy has worked for me, and allowed me make twice the income without a second job. Why isn't poker my first job? You ask... Well, I've just told you. I'm too tight. That applies in life as well. AKA I'm a pussy haha.

Bro, you're not going to be able to bluff out big pots often enough to make a big profit Your opponents are never folding near nut hands or massive draws, so you're going to lose those pots sometimes
@Heavy_C6 жыл бұрын
@@Buz-Lunch-Punx shit for the most part, nobody ever folds anything. Guys are always willing to pay to see if their 8 high is good. But that's all part of why I show so much. If they know you only play big hands, then they're willing to let one go when they're almost certain they're behind.
@Buz-Lunch-Punx6 жыл бұрын
@@Heavy_C Ok, so what do you do when you are called by the nuts and you are forced to show? Don't they then realize you're capable of bluffing big pots?
@Heavy_C6 жыл бұрын
@@Buz-Lunch-Punx honestly I haven't been caught yet. I pick my spots and get a good read before I go in on a pot. I've been wrong when I think I'm ahead before. But I've never been wrong about weakness when I have nothing. It's yet to backfire on me. I only bluff once. And it's always worked.
@Buz-Lunch-Punx6 жыл бұрын
@@Heavy_C ok so what you're talking about is playing really good poker I understand you cultivate a tight table image, but its your read of the table that allows you to exploit it You make out that your strategy relies heavily on you cultivating a tight table image, but what really makes your strategy work is your poker skill
