Thanks for this! My Dad was one of the REME that took part in this expedition, we grew up thinking it was normal :D It's only really now that he's not here anymore that I realise how mad it was. A few pics I haven't seen before too!!

they took the big tyres off because the diffs are weak and they ran out of spares. they might have broke less with smaller tyres but their offroad ability didn't increase they had a pre made track to follow. it was a pr disaster, people got sick, people died, the vehicles broke down and they had to make a road for them with 2 series land roves not to mention it took months with the help of the army. should you put a locker, well you don't have a 4wd if you don't have lockers and you'll break as many axles trying to follow a locked one with open diffs anyway and eventually you have to decide if you avoid anything difficult or upgrade the axles.
