So much stuff got left out from the books because of movie restrictions, as well as the other stuff that got unnecessarily left out like Harry and ginnys relationship. We really should push this idea forward as it would literally benefit everyone, buisness wise the Harry potter franchise is lacking behind compared to LOTR and GOT because they both have quite successful spin offs, on the other hand HP doesn't. The closest we have is fantastic beasts and it didn't go near the success of the original, and it surely will enlighten most fans, especially if they did it correctly

The ministry should have still gone through with the plans for the prison that was supposed to have built during Rowle's tenure. In my opinion they could have still turned Azkaban into a prison but only as a dumping grounds for the most dangerous criminals, and those serving life sentences. Meanwhile a minimum security prison could be a good place to send people found guilty of less serious crimes, a place more for the purpose of rehabilitation than retribution.

Could it be, that the first de mentor created by Ezkridis was in fact one of the several sailors he tortured, and upon realizing what he had created, he decided to stick to that formula? After all, the hunger the dementors have for souls and the fact they suck out all the happiness around them could be connected to the sailors, given the fact that they also had all of their happiness sucked out of them by Ezkridis and later, their own souls so to speak, which in turn gave dementors a global thirst for vengeance upon all humans.

Who can say? According to WW, first wizards they sent to investigate after Ezkridis died “refused afterwards to talk of what they had found inside, but the least frightening part of it was that the place was infested with Dementors.” Which really says a lot because Dementors are horrifying enough. What kind of Lovecraftian horrors went on in that place before? What was Ezkridis trying to achieve, if anything? What ancient demons or eldritch beings was he in communion with? Did he really build Azkaban or did he simply stumble upon the ruined outpost of a far older civilization whose dark secrets he sought to obtain? We may never know. Perhaps we are simply not meant to.

When you guys say children, you forget 8 year olds are already making their toys fight to death, or kiss, etc. By the time the children are old enough to read the first book, they have enough maturity to grasp. By the time the books actually get dark, they are higher reading levels and double the size of the first two, almost three, books. Y’all are just out of touch.

dementors are said to be brought about by misery and suffering, which kinda reminds me of poltergeists being brought about by chaos and unruliness (or something like that). I wonder if the very existence of these things was always a thing, but until Ekrizdis did his horrifying experiments there wasn't enough misery among the wizards to cause dementors to start to manifest. What Ekrizdis did was so ungodly, horrifying, and disturbing, that allowed dementors to flourish. While yes, there's always been misery and suffering in the world, I'd imagine this is a special kind of effed up we're talking about. It's probably more likely though that Krizy made em himself, they would serve as another way for him to torture his victims.

I still wonder how one would destroy a dementor. Its technically not alive so traditional forms of combat would likely be ineffective. But I wonder, if you were to force a dementor to be exposed to a patronus for a prolonged period of time, would it cause permanent dammage to the non-being?

One way I have considered is not to kill them but to trap them in a magical cage. Just imagine a magical box enchanted to suck dementers up like a vacuum and trap them inside forever.

What if the dementors already existed when Ekrizdis stepped foot on the island. Him and the creatures just co-dependent on each for survival. Ekrizdis provided protection and food (stranded muggles) and dementors provided negativity and dark knowledge for his magical experiments?

There’s actually a lot of evidence that says that dementors have been around longer than Ekrizdis killing sailors and building his fortress, they just went there because it’s a massive source of misery, despair and death. I personally think Dementor’s come about when a person dies in the most unhappy, suffering, and miserable state.

Yeah so where did the Dementors go??? Was Shacklebolt a strong enough wizard to undo the dark magic that has lasted centuries? Was very interesting up until the confusing fate of the Dementors. It definitely adds weight to the sightings of Dementors outside Azkaban during Harrys time, and the disbelief that went along with it.

Something that makes no sense. They tried to close it after turning it into a prison but did not due to "dementors would leave since they have no more souls to consume" but they stayed on the island after the creator died, the island was found and then not touched again. If they could leave they would have when the island was found and abandoned by the ministry of magic

Id imagine shacklebolt had a method in dealing with the Dementors, I dont believe they are invincible. More like nigh-invincible. Sirius hid from the dementors by changing into his pupper form and burying deep his emotions. To a dementor, he looked like an animal and didnt have detectable emotions. Makes sense someone would figure a way to eventually do away with dementors. I suppose they are not everywhere tormenting people. So they atleast did something to them.

Near the same spot, if I'm reading the map correctly, was once - thousands of years ago, a large island now called Doggerland, named after the Dogger Bank we see marked on the map. That place would presumably contain a lot of spirits, good and evil. Maybe a wizarding conflict caused an upheaval that raised it somehow, creating Azkaban.

It's nice to see that in Harry Potter and Methods of Rationality (and Significant Digits) there is a second form of Patronus spell (so called "True Patronus") which destroys them completely. And a bit modified lore tells that the Azkaban was previously the location of some goblins and their dark master: Lord the Foul (Archon Heraclius Hero, Herpo The Foul, Meldh), who eventually escaped through the Veil from Godric Gryffindor and the Veil itself was moved to the Department of Mysteries of the ministry of magic. Of course those are fan fics but with a very well thought lore I should say.

They can be killed. Its in the lore litteraly. If a dementor has nothing to feed on it will wither away and Probbably cease to exist/vanish or whatever. So easy to kill them actualy. Just round them Up to Magicaly Enchanted cages by Patronus spell and Put thoose cages on secluded Location, Like Underground Cave or somethign liek that. Seal That cave With powerfull magic- fidelius charms, muggle repelling spells etc, etc. And dementors would Litteraly die from hunger.

What I don't understand is the ministry's conclusion that the Dementors would leave the island if not repeatedly fed with new souls, i.e. prisoners.. By that logic they surely would have already left for the mainland(s) a while ago, as I cannot imagine enough sailors to simply strand on the island for them to be saturated... Seems to me like that was already just a pretext by pro Azkaban wizards to scare others and justify using it as their prison.

Perhaps Ekrizdis somehow found the island and there were magical creatures on the island, (later Dementors) then he lured muggles to the island and killed them, but instead of just killing them for no reason, he merges their tormented souls with his own twisted mind and creates a horcrux and makes the horcruxes the soon-to-be Dementors and the souls of the horcrux are so dark and depressing that it transforms the magical creatures to Dementors, beings that suck the happiness out of everything.

Why weren't the death eaters freed in the second wizarding war and especially Sirius before his breakout not catatonic from the dementors? I feel like 10 or however many years with constant dementors feeding on you would be devastating. Or did the ministry just have them as guards who would only patrol the outside with some sort of human rights protecting even the worst death eaters?
