@tubekulose Yes, sir. Well, it used to be a comedy. It's become rather sad of late. Mike Myers was on in the early 90s when it was at it's best. Dana Carvey was also on at the same time. Ypu may remember him from Wayne's World. That movie was a spinoff from an SNL sketch.

Since you're not familiar with the actor (Mike Myers), you might not also notice that he played Dr. Evil too. This becomes more important as the movies go on, because he plays more and more main characters throughout, and it makes you appreciate when they interact onscreen.

Mike Meyers, who played both Austin and Dr.Evil, Wayne on Wayne's World, and Shrek, was on SNL for years, and the Dr.Evil character is partially an impression of his old SNL boss, Lorne Michaels. He grew up in Canada, but his parents were British. The hairy chest was because of Sean Connery in the James Bond Movies, where one of the villain's henchman was an Asian man who would throw his hat at people.

Not sure if anyone mentioned that Mike Myers also played Dr Evil - not sure if that was obvious. Anyway, he’s doing an impression of Lorne Michaels who created Saturday Night Live and has run the show except for a few years. In the sequels Mike Myers adds more characters that he also plays. In addition to being takeoffs of James Bond movies they also draw a lot from the Flint movies - Our Man Flint, In Like Flint - that starred James Coburn.

A few notes: You really should see some of the James Bond Movies before the other two. Half of the jokes are based on the Bond movies. Start with Goldfinger, Thunderball, You only Live Twice, and Moonraker for sure. The intermission breaks are done in the style of an American variety show called Laugh In that aired around 1970. They'd do the exact thing between jokes. The assassin at the end who threw the shoe turned out to be a real-life monster. Like Dateline special level monster.

The quick and psychedelic bridges between scenes were an homage to a TV show from the late 1960s, Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In. Dan Rowan and Dick Martin hosted a comedy variety show which used exactly those types of bridges between skits. The humor was very topical and political, so it didn't age well and the show never did well in syndication, so it was pretty quickly forgotten by the majority of the public.
