It's a very widely repeated myth that the hospital explosions didn't go off as intended and Ledger just stayed in character. This is false. The scene was specifically planned and rehearsed with the delay in the explosions, to allow for a single shot of Ledger himself walking from the building before it's destroyed. Everything happened as intended.
@Dorsalfinsky7 күн бұрын
When they blew up the hospital, I don’t remember anyone freaking out or calling 911 reporting a building exploding. It seemed like the movie already had major hype and everyone in Chicago knew about it and the explosion and were kind of stoked by the whole thing, like when The Blues Brothers was filming there.

The Joker is probably the greatest and most iconic villain of all time, in any comic franchise. His theatrics and unpredictability, while simply wanting to watch the world burn due to the exhilaration of it all, are what makes him truly terrifying.
@DudeLongcouch6 күн бұрын
Watching this in the theater was a transcendent experience. Every time Joker was on screen, everybody just sat in rapt attention. We all knew we were watching something special, a "greatest of the generation" type of performance that immediately achieved legendary status.
@kaojinn8 күн бұрын
Heath's performance here is absolutely unrecognizable from his other famous roles (Brokeback Mountain, 10 Things I Hate About You, A Knight's Tale). He manages to absolutely steal every scene hes in, because hes so unpredictable. Its just mesmerizing. Heath was having trouble with his health after the filming of this movie, and ended up accidentally overdosing on prescribed medication. Its unknown if it was truly intentional, since he may have accidently taken them too frequently, or perhaps had a bad reaction between different medications. All we know is that we lost him just as his career was about to launch into the stratosphere.
@gettygermany7 күн бұрын
Actually: He didn't overdosed, he mixed medication that wasn't allowed to be mixed, which is a core problem of the unorganized chaos in the US healthcare system. It should be put out more clearly that this was a TOTALLY AVOIDABLE death, that is happening thousands of times in the US cause of the lack of organization and structure around a patient medication, which is a direct result of not having universal healthcare. RIP Heath o>

9:11 - Have a look at the bookshelves in the background of Dent's office. Half the books are neatly organised, half are a chaotic mess. Joker didn't create Two-Face, he showed what was always hidden underneath. Glad you liked the movie. Personally I consider this the peak of 'realistic' Batman. Music, cinematography, acting, all are nearly flawless.

Inna this movie is in everyone's Top 3 Superhero movies of all time. Where in the 3 is highly debated by many. Lol! There's another special detail that I didn't notice until I saw the 3rd movie. My theater ran an all day marathon of all 3 movies with the last one being it's midnight premier. As I watched the first 2 I discovered something I hadn't noticed before. The Title of each movie comes at the End of the movie, not the beginning. And the timing of each has significance. In this one Gordan says the words to his son "a Dark Knight" and immediately the Title Card Batman the Dark Knight is displayed. Another example of the Nolan Brothers being amazing story tellers. Christopher Nolan is the director, and his brother Jonathon was the primary Writer, though Christopher and several others contributed.

The Batmobile was too heavily damaged from that RPG it took; the back is its weak spot as that's where the engine is. It self-destructed after releasing the Bat-Pod portion, most likely to not let anyone else use what's left of the Batmobile that got left behind.
@BlackStudies2 күн бұрын
Thanks for the reaction. You're not the only one who was unnerved by The Joker. The scene where he crashes the party for Dent was the first time Maggie Gyllenhaal ("Rachel Dawes") had seen Heath Ledger in full makeup and in character. Her reaction was real. She was genuinely terrified of him. So much so, that the director (who anticipated this) gave her a "safe word" to say so that they could immediately cut the scene if she got too uncomfortable.

INNA 17:40 -- AIRPLANE SKYHOOK (BATMAN DARK KNIGHT catching and flying the Chinese bad guy away from the building by airplane with a wire cable). SKYHOOK is a way to lift / rescue someone FROM THE GROUND INTO THE BACK OF A FLYING PLANE. The person on the ground is wearing a harness which is attached to a WIRE CABLE TIED TO A LARGE BALLOON. The SKYHOOK from the airplane catches the balloon cable with the person attached, who is then pulled into the back of the airplane. It has been used since the 1960's by the United States Air Force, Navy, Special Forces, and CIA Central Intelligence Agency. The Vietnam war movie GREEN BERET (1968) WITH JOHN WAYNE has a scene in the movie where an enemy army officer is kidnapped and lifted away into a US Air Force plane using the Skyhook system. Heath Ledger's Joker is possibly the best villain I've ever seen. He's so unhinged, and yet he was always one step ahead. Almost all of his schemes were planned and executed perfectly, right up to the point where Batman finally caught up with him. But even when he was caught, he still had that one last move, Harvey Dent. The Joker was such a well-written character in this movie, but it's Ledger's performance that really makes you believe he's real, and he's absolutely insane! I think you felt it too, the visceral shiver down your spine. That's why this movie is my favourite superhero movie of all time. None of the others come close.

The one thing I haven't seen noted in the comments.... Harvey's Coin. Before the explosion/Rachel's death, the coin was an unblemished double head coin. (one side burnt after...) So all the "luck" comments align and make sense, even points to Harvey's sense of justice and such. And is another thing twisted after his transformation.

Its my opinion that the Joker custom-designs his origin story to terrify the person he's talking to. 1.)His origin was about a nightmarish father when talking to mobster Gambol, b/c, statistically, Gambol probably came from a fatherless broken home which helped direct him to a life of crime and in his heart of hearts Gambol would have liked to have a father. Moral of Joker's story to the gangster: "fear your dreams., son" 2.)His origin about a woman robbed of her beauty which destroys her marriage was for Rachel, a woman beautiful enough to engage a good and important man. If she loses her beauty will her life be destroyed, too? If so, her beauty is her cage and time is her jailer. Moral of Joker's story to the girl: "fear your dreams, pretty lady."

The two bald boat detonator guys were mirror images of each other: same but opposite. Both bald, but one was short and white and well spoken and the other was big and black with bad grammar. One wore the suit of his success in society, handsomely rewarded and the other wore the uniform of his failure in society, cruelly punished and cast aside. TWO FACES of the same coin. And in the end, good vs evil, pillar vs. convict, came to the same conclusion: life not death.

When the Joker confronted her at Bruce Waynes place the actress didn't know what was going to happen. Great way to get an actual emotional response

I only have two problems with The Dark Knight. 1. Replacing Katie Homes with Maggie Gyllenhaal to play Rachel was most unfortunate, Katie was very good in Batman Begins I thought. Katie was pregnant at the time, it's just too bad Nolan didn't try some creative filming and keep her in it. And 2. The Gotham of Batman Begins was much better, this stand-in "Gotham" is just Chicago and lacks that not-quite-this-reality that they got in Batman Begins. So a lot of Americans see the Dark Knight and it's just littered with Chicago landmarks. That said, it's a brilliant film.

The first half of the dark knight rises is decent, but the last half is undeniably bad. I think Nolan was under pressure to make a third instalment because the dark knight was such an iconic film. You can tell he didn't really have a third story in him, it just unwinds into a tiresome boring convoluted mess with a surprisingly bad and unsatisfying final showdown.

Ledger's performance was so strong as the Joker he won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor posthumously!🏆 The Batmobile first appeared in the original 60s TV series. Of course, it looked a lot different. If Batman did not take the blame all the criminals Harvey put away could be overturned and released. Comic book fan here, with Batman being one of my all time favorites. I saw this movie 2x in theaters and used to love it a lot, but over time, I've come to realize that it is not a really good movie when it comes to Batman. Batman would never take the blame for killing 5 people and go into hiding for 8 years. They could've easily blamed the murders on the Joker, not only that, but Ramirez was not killed by Dent, so she could run her mouth about what really happened. Finally Ledger played a great psychopath in make-up, but he did not play a comic accurate Joker. Without the jokes, gadgets, and gags he's not the Joker. If you disagree with me then you are a comic book movie fan not a comic book fan and I really don't give a damn about your opinions.

@plothole1817 күн бұрын
That wasn't the original story. The chemicals part maybe, but it is pretty much a tradition that we don't know who the Joker was before he was the Joker. All stories about who he was before he went into the chemicals are completely non-canon, which honestly makes the backstory bit in this movie more true to the character than the Jack Napier origin was in the 1989 movie.
