I absolutely love the symbolism of the burning bat signal. No one had seen him for 8 years and his signal was destroyed by Gotham PD. No one hoped to see the signal and were almost certainly expecting to die at any moment, so to see the bat signal burning on the bridge with a “I’m back bois” vibe, must’ve been spectacular. @nigelft
@nigelft 3 жыл бұрын
I'm by no means an expert on DC, especially as I don't collect the comics/graphic novels ... But my understanding is that the reason why Superman drafted Batman into the Justice League, with little hesitation, is because the former realised that the latter, despite being by no means a superhero, made up for being a mortal human by having an extraordinary set of skills that utterly sets him apart from anyone else ... ... in fact, I prefer Batman over Ironman, as Batman is far more than just his suit. Yes, Ironman out of suit is still a utter genius, I'm not quite sure what is he proven to be, outside of his suit: to Stark, him, and Ironman, where one, and the same ... Batman is different, as in Wayne and Batman where two entirely different personae, especially as Batman could well be, in Jungian terms, Bruce's 'shadow self', a quiet, yet incredible, and powerful, force, that lurks in the darkness, that presents to the people of Gotham as a vigilant protective presence, their ever present watcher and guardian, that became far more than a vigilante; he became their hope, whilst casting dread on the more serious of criminals, and even more so on petty thieves ... That's what I believe Superman grew to admire about Batman: despite Gotham regarding Batman as their 'Guardian Angel', he never let that feed into what ego he has, as he believes he is just doing a necessary civic duty. Batman may have unresolved issues, but a narcissistic personality isn't one ... Hence the huge disparity between Bruce, and the Bat: the less people knew about whom Batman actually was, the greater, and more powerful, that vigilant, dark force, became; of that duality of both hope, and dread ... In fact, even Bruce Wayne, the billionaire, playboy, 'high market value' guy, whilst still being the generous philanthropist, is, completely obvious, yet another of his masks. The only time he can be his naturally introverted, but not impersonal, self, is not only with Alfred, and Lucius, but also Superman, as there is, whilst, again from my understanding, that though Bruce maintains that tiny bit of uncertainty, and a fully thought-through contingency, if something happened to cause Superman to go rogue (ala Homelander ...), they still had a huge amount for respect for each other, possibly because, being pragmatic in being willing to be in harm's way to protect any innocent people, was one of many attributes which caused the rest of the JL to treat him as one of their own ... [Edit:- Exactly that ... Yet another reason why he's highly regarded by the rest of the JL is how he handled adversity, with quiet dignity, and perseverance, never once making himself out to be a martyr of circumstances; again, amongst one of the many personalty traits that is of the true Bruce Wayne, himself ... It's funny that on occasion, a person with an almost characterure of a personality, that is just an outward shell that the world sees, can exist, whilst the real person, kept deeply underneath, is almost a diametrical opposite of that construct ...]

Batman came full circle here. While he was training in the first movie, he fell through the ice when fighting Ra's Al Ghul. Now in the finale, he walked confidently on ice like it was nothing. By conquering the fear of the people forced to go on the ice, he re-established himself as the symbol of hope for Gotham.

It’s certainly my least favorite of the dark knight trilogy (my favorite movie trilogy EVER, for that matter) but it’s still easily in my top 50 movies of all time. Despite how flawed it is, the symbolism and apocalyptic gotham setting are what make the somewhat bloated plot work for me. I just wish they removed talia from the script and added some extra time to have some of the plot holes make more sense (the main thing that comes to mind is a conversation about how bad of an idea sending the entire gotham police force into what would seem like an obvious trap in real life) Edit: after several rewatches I now prefer rises over batman begins, but dark knight is still my favorite of the trilogy (yeah I know I’m so original)

It was also symbolic. Blake did all the hardwork setting up freeing those men from the sewer. If Batman freed them, the Batman gets the credit. So, Batman gives Blake a grenade to throw to say that when the day comes as to how they got free, Blake can say "I throw an explosive (which he did)! Also, as the men are freed the first person the see is Blake, not Batman. Batman shows up afterwards. Now it looks like Blake freed the men all by his self, which he technically did.

It’s honestly amazing looking back at this trilogy’s greatness and realizing that there are so many small details in every scene, that I didn’t manage to see beforehand at the time, that I’m starting to find out and learn more about now when I rewatch these films scene by scene. There is really so much to dissect in this trilogy that can be easy to miss at first glance. Christopher Nolan really is a detail-oriented genius. This trilogy truly is a masterpiece. There will never be another one like it. Is anybody else also finding and noticing small but critical details and moments in this trilogy that you didn’t see beforehand?

+Bertolt Hoover The Dark Knight Rises: Bane starts messing around with Gotham, breaks Batman's spine, then proceeds to free all criminals from Prison to start a massive riot and rule the whole city, leaving only a small resistance group to face him. In the end, Batman comes back to finish it, with the help of Catwoman and some random cop who is so far not connected to him in any way, and it turns out (SPOILER ALERT, but seriously, everyone who cares has seen the movie) that his former love interest is actually the mastermind behind the plan. Batman and Robin: Popsicle Pete and Rose McFlower start wrecking shit up with an ice ray and mind-controlled plants. Batman, Robin and a girl who is to become Batgirl defeat them pretty much without any trouble, using witty oneliners. Pete turns out to not be that bad after all, he was just trying to help his dying wife and was manipulated by Rose. Also, Batnipples. (Didn't even bother to put a spoiler alert here, because seriously, who hasn't seen the movie yet probably shouldn't anyway) Totally the same movie.

When you think about the dynamic of who Blake was supposed to be, it changes this interaction. It feels like an exercise in trust, a demonstration of expectations, a lecture in theatricality, a test to see if he could follow orders and finally the assignment of a role. I really do love seeing the Police Sergeant's reaction to the symbol. You can see in his eyes for that one frame of his face, the fire reignite, and belief. A man who was once determined to beat the batman, led his army. Not to mention, virtually everyone in Gotham at this point hated Batman and his legacy after the events of The Dark Knight, for his fake murder of Dent/the Police Officers. So this symbol just gives everyone hope.

I believe by this point Bane had already revealed the truth about Harvey Dent. He read Gordon’s resignation letter outside of the prison before setting the Dent Act prisoners free. I would say Gotham as a whole respected and endeared Batman, even those who had once hated him for the lie about Dent. I agree that Foley definitely had a moment of realization here that he was wrong and now could find the courage to stand against Bane and his army.

Watching the trilogy all together, this scene 1:45 stands out. Because for once, the bat symbol isn’t meant to instill the criminals with fear. It gives the citizens of gotham hope. Batman never fought crime to scare criminals, it was to protect the innocent. They no longer saw him as a freak, but as a saviour, a symbol of good. And like batman himself said, the people of gotham are always ready to believe in good. Plus I can’t help but have a big cheeky grin on my face when the music and the imagery all comes together to signal this iconic character’s return. So fucking epic.

The smile & look of pure relief on Gordon's face @ 1:24 when he hears an all too familiar voice say - "Light it up..." @ 1:22 gives me chills each & every time I watch this scene. Then look of astonishment & awe on Blake's face from 2:44-2:55 when he realizes that Batman has just saved him & that he's returned to help save Gotham gets me every time too.

I love this trilogy because people seem to forget that Batman isn't just a hero who beats up criminals and defends the innocent. That is a big part of his character, but he's also a symbol. Not a symbol like Superman, inspiring others to be good. But a symbol *to* evil, a warning. A warning that there is a watchful protector, a Dark Knight. And the knowledge that criminals fear that symbol, is what gives people hope.

@@avanindrathecrownprince930 that was always Bruce's goal, to shake the people out of apathy and get to a time where the people of Gotham stand up for THEMSELVES especially the protectors like the police. I loved the ending because they honor the Batman with a statue in the lobby of city all (which forever acknowledges the selfless brave sacrifices the Batman made and how he could've been ANYONE) plus Blake (Robin) takes over for Batman and assumed the mantle, should Gotham ever need him again. (and they likely will, one day).

No, not really. The entirety of Gotham “officials” were incapable of thwarting Bane and Talia for the time Batman was MIA. And as far as the normal criminal element, Gotham had basically had shut that shit down for the last 8 years of the Dent Act. He clearly left breadcrumbs for Robin to assume the mantle of the Dark Knight, so he wasn’t leaving everything in the hands of “officials”.
