Something I really love about Better Call Saul is that it didn’t just bring back character from Breaking Bad for a cheap cameo, they enriched the characters by giving them deeper backstories. Gustavo was a great example of this

This may be a strange comparison, but Gus always reminded me a bit of Hannibal Lecter. Especially in his mannerisms: an obsession with excellence and dignified presentation (right down to the nervous tie adjustment), the love and appreciation for food, the traumatic childhood in which both characters starved (albeit in very different ways), and habit of constantly surrounding themselves with people who adore them and thoroughly trust them while committing constant acts of evil just out of sight of their party guests. They’re both socially beloved and intellectually praised puppet masters who love food and well tailored suits, but with a shared hatred of rude and sloppy people. The two main differences are that Gus isn’t a cannibal, and Hannibal Lecter was born into generational wealth while Gus was born into poverty and became wealthy on his own.

I will always remember how in the scene where Gus kills Victor, Mike recoils when Gus slits Victor’s throat, even raising his gun. It shows how Gus can be unpredictable to those who know him.
