___
In the summer of 1943, the Germans captured dozens of Soviet prisoners of war during the Battle of Smolensk. However, one of them stood out. It was Yakov Dzhugashvili, the eldest son of Joseph Stalin.
Stalin's first son was born to the dictator's first wife and only love, Kato Svanidze. When she passed, her husband was devastated and abandoned their son with his wife's relatives. He would be hard on the boy from then on, even refusing to give him the name Stalin.
When World War 2 broke out, Yakov had become a man and served his country as an artillery officer. But in an unfortunate turn of events, he was seized by the enemy and turned in by his own people.
The Nazis would exploit his image in propaganda strategies and even tried to swap him for a German prisoner in the custody of the Soviets. However, they did not realize one key detail: Joseph Stalin was no family man…

It wouldn’t have mattered and he still would have been just as bad. Stalin always was a monster. His wife practically worshipped him and she died because Stalin’s appetite for political power and dedication to the party in those early days caused him to neglect her and his young son. A normal person would have embraced their son even more vehemently because the son would have represented the last link to the mother that had passed on. Stalin didn’t do this. He never cared about his son. Stalin was a monster. He said his first wife’s death killed any love he had for humanity. But that’s a lie. He never cared. His wife’s death was just an excuse to let it all hang out and not bother to pretend anymore. There’s no getting around it. These are the types of people who thrive in the communist system and are drawn to it. Communism is brutal and uncaring, so are the people who support it. Communism supports the interest of the state over the interest of the individual. In that respect, Stalin was the perfect Communist. He cared nothing about his family. Even when most Russians would have expected Stalin to make exceptions for his own flesh and blood son, he lived up to his namesake (the man of steel) and remained just as cold and uncaring as a piece of steel would be. The man was completely heartless. In a lot of ways Stalin was worse than Hitler was. He did a lot of the same things. The US turned a blind eye to Russia and Stalin during WW2 and allied with them because we couldn’t afford to take on Germany and The Soviet Union at the same time. The Soviet Union was an enemy of Germany and we needed all the help we could get. The old “The enemy of my enemy is my friend strategy”. I wish we had taken them out when we had the chance. Letting the Soviet Union stay intact during WW2 and shortly thereafter when they were at their weakest was a mistake. We should have destroyed them. We didn’t have the money, materials, or manpower to continue to wage war with a new Soviet enemy, neither did our allies in the rest of Europe, after what we went through with Germany.

I don't think it's right to criticize Stalin for refusing to trade his son for another prisoner of war. Stalin was always keenly aware of the optics of his leadership, and probably felt how hypocritically it would look for him to privilege the family member of the leader of the communist party when there were many other communist pow's at the time. There are plenty of things to criticize Stalin for, whether you are sympathetic to Stalinist communism or not, but him not trying to free his son isn't one of them in my opinion.

just as Stalin is a bad guy, and you have accepted it because all the propaganda of the communist world was small in comparison to the propaganda of the capitalist world... The capitalist world has all the newspapers, magazines, television stations, radio stations. They have the whole propaganda machine in their hands. So when they propagated that Stalin is a bad guy... just repeat any lie again and again and again and it becomes almost true. If not truth, then at least a truism. Now those same people of the same capitalist propaganda machine are telling you Gorbachev is a good guy. I don't bother what they are saying. I look who is behind the screen. Who is forcing these people to propagate the idea that Gorbachev is a good guy? The same people, because they want Gorbachev to become personally involved in his ego. That will be their success and that will be the destruction of the Soviet Union and the great experiment of communism I have been telling you about. -OSHO-

It’s a cruel decision but he couldn’t do differently. There were millions of pow and he couldn’t give his son special treatment. Many fathers had their sons as prisoners of war. Given that almost everything we know about Stalin is in question, calling him his "son" is a bit of a speculation.

Interesting. Considering von Paulus performance at Stalingrad, if I was Stalin I would have traded him for a potato. Perhaps they would have put him in charge of another Army, and done more damage to Germany..

This would make a brillaint short tv series The story will go like this, there is a myterious handsome man who fell in love with a girl, it would look like a typical romcom for the first half on early 1900's Russia. Then the mom dies, and the soldier is captured only to reveal he is the son of stalin

Turned in by his own people..... If this happens to you, pay attention. What it means is that your behavior has been so exceptionally unacceptable to everyone that they collectively decided and agreed you are so special a kind of asshole that nobody believes that there won't be any repercussions from purging you that the group can't (and won't) be able to stymie. Don't be that guy.
@WingZeroGWO
@WingZeroGWO 2 жыл бұрын
Totally disagree. One should never capitulate to the group for acceptance, especially when the group is evil. Let them throw you to the wolves. I'd rather die on moral principle than live as an immoral slave.
@thebackchannel1641
@thebackchannel1641 2 жыл бұрын
@@WingZeroGWO I see your point. However, without any "capitulation" on some level the group dynamic fails to coalesce and instead of a group, what you have is a bunch of selfish individuals milling around feeling alienated and unhappy. Still, don't be that guy.
@WingZeroGWO
@WingZeroGWO 2 жыл бұрын
@@thebackchannel1641 Nah, you simply find the right group that you fit in to. Governments have forced everyone into these tribes where they don't necessarily belong. Outside of government, there are countless groups/communities built around common interests, some as trivial as model airplanes, some as complex as moral philosophy. If capitulation to a group forces you to be an evil person, don't do it.
@thebackchannel1641
@thebackchannel1641 2 жыл бұрын
@@WingZeroGWO I don't understand the second sentence. All who work for a government does so by choice and accepts that they can at times be stuck with menial, remote, unpleasant etc. job assignments. The same applies to hobby/activity clubs with the exception that the government cannot purge someone for their personality flaws. A group that is comprised of individuals who have some kind of common thread that in some context is deeper than mere common interests. The latter is the best and rarest.

@@thebackchannel1641 i kinda feel bad for you that you cant see how compromising and going along with the will of a group can lead to evil deeds all evil needs to thrive is for good men to do nothing mob mentality is never a good thing its one of the biggest problem humanity faces in the world today
