This is a perfect example of something mind blowing, even though many ancient cultures did discover steel, the age of still didn't begin untill the 1800's which is ofcourse well after Oda Nobunaga, came to power in Japan, which is where I presume the time period from which most of the traditions regarding the Katana and its build and treatment come from. Anyways my question, if you have an answer that is, do you know why the build and construction of the Katana, was not changed to Steel during the Meiji Restoration? I understand that there may not be a specific answer for this, I was just shocked that modern Katanas rust

These swords have never not been steel. There is evidence of tatara (japanese bloomery furnaces) being used approximately 1400 years ago. This predates swords which you or I might call a katana. Stainless steel, which doesn't easily rust, is what wallhangers are made of. It's just alloyed with too many different metals to be any good. A good sword will be made with high carbon steel which doesn't have all those metals that prevent rust mixed in; you have to oil them to prevent air from directly contacting the metal itself, and since oil evaporates, you have to do it regularly. (every couple weeks to a month or more depending on environment and storage).

Too much oil and powder can rust the blade as well, regularly which I'm assuming eludes to twice monthly or so, would quickly damage the blade especially if it isn't being used since you are always directly applying it to the blade instead of what you would usually clean off of the blade, there's no point in oiling and powdering dust that can be easily whipped away with a cloth. And the reason I can't give an actual cleaning timeframe is because I have never cleaned my (sharp) katana, it is a sharp replica but even so it came in the mail pre-oiled and powdered which was kinda concerning considering you probably shouldn't be able to tell or see that oil or powder is still on the blade, even after that it still didn't rust and I haven't actually cleaned it, I just occasionally wipe the blade with a cloth and I have had no issues since

I have a machete that I have used for a decade cutting wood, grass, tree branches.
