I'm a Filipina living in Japan too, I agree with everything. The xmas thing in Shinjuku Station is kinda embarrassing. When I was still in the Philippines, I used to give the aguinaldo / cash gifts to my official inaanak / godchildren before December 25th,cuz if not, they'll come in front of my house together with their squad or siblings and expecting me to give cash gifts to other kids in the squad.

Sounds like Christmas has a few problems. Money is always a problem no matter where you live. Hope your happy and enjoying your life 😍

I would expect to send them gifts and money for special foods, it’s what I do for my Family.

I have a Filipina friend in Butuan and your description sure sounds like her. I have nothing against her ways but she does what you said about Xmas and bdays and don't save for a rainy day. I sometimes send her money to help but I wonder if I'm wrong doing that. What do you think Mira? I would like to k on what you think about this. Thanks 😊

My filipina’s family never exchanged or received gifts before I entered her life. The darkest side of Philippines Christmas is for the pigs. I know money I may send will go towards the lechon.

Me and my partner are both Christian so we don't celebrate Christmas like many of my partners Catholic relatives do.. Although I'm British and my partner a Filipina we both share the same beliefs when it comes to our faith..our children get gifts any other time of the year but we make a point of not giving Christmas presents to them over the pagan festival! But I have noticed how many Filipinos celebrate the Christmas period but like I say a vast majority are Catholic!!

I find Filipino religion is mixed with a lot of mysticism/pagan rituals.
