My ex was a malignant narcissist but also seemed very much like a "psychopath."

That's because their brains are very similar. Not many public figures incorporate the neurobiology of these pathological personalities. Narcissists, regardless of where they are on the so-called narcissistic spectrum, are similar to psychopaths as far as brain structure and deficits. It's accurate to say that narcissists are on the psychopathy spectrum. But most "teachers" wouldn't dare say this, as they want everyone to believe narcissism is a byproduct of trauma, when that is very rarely the case.

@SensitiveRevolution You are correct. I have always suspected this. After I was involved with that evil man I got a grad degree in psych. My mother is also a psychopath btw, and I was groomed to serve her and to be a doormat!

Sounds like they share the traits of a narcissist.

There is some overlap. They all share a similar brain structure. So it’s safe to say that narcissists are on the psychopathy spectrum.

@@SnarkySnark2025 can you be married to a narcissist for 20 years and not know them? After researching I know without a shadow of a doubt that my husband has a personality disorder, he always had these strange behaviors, passive aggressiveness, no empathy, but his entire personality drastically changed. It’s like I look at him he looks the same but he’s not him he’s more sadistic. Is this common with those who suffer from personality disorders? I never see anyone discuss this

@@Bookish_chic Covert narcissists are passive-aggressive and can change from Jekyll to Hyde in an instant when annoyed or angry. If they show sadistic tendencies at times they may be a malignant narcissist and I read that malignant narcissists are often coverts. I know this type well.
