On one side, if you don't know anything about the Dark Tower books, I think it's a decent enough "bring the popcorn and leave your brain at the door" action movie that includes "enough" (read: the bare minimum) of the DT core elements to make it work. On the other hand, if you do know anything about the Dark Tower books, and especially if you have read them, it becomes painfully and glaringly obvious that the people who made it tried to stuff some 4300 pages worth of books into a movie that's 95 minutes long, and failed so miserably I don't have the vocabulary necessary to express how bad it is.

True, but it could also be the latest go-around for Roland. Which OMFG, when my friend watched me read the end of the last book, he watched me yell my head off in a basement at 3 AM. But come on, Idris reading the gunslingers prayer/creed is epic.

Once you read the books you'll understand. They tried to force the story from 4 books into one movie. The only part they got right was the scene with the house that came to life.

the argument could be made that he had to purify himself to be able to fully use the power inside the steel. he had to let go negative emotions to access the stronger magic.

Amazon was making a show based on Wizard and Glass that would've lead into the an adaptation of the first book but it got canned after the pilot was filmed.

I have a soft spot for these interesting misses. If it wasn’t based on The Dark Tower, you’d have this interesting dark fantasy adventure movie akin to The Neverending Story. The books are WEIRD and BLOATED and CONVOLUTED and make zero sense as a linear series. A movie version of the entire series was always doomed to fail. But what we got really isn’t as bad as some fans say it is, especially since this is supposed to be a reboot of sorts (since the overall story starts over multiple times).

Mf don’t even start. Every book can be made into a film. If you ever read LOTR the two towers you’d know how different the book is from the movie. Dune is also a great example

The whole Dark Tower book series was so amazing, it could have been an equally amazing series of films. But we got this trash. Can we pretend it didn't happen and start over please? Maybe do it right this time?!

That happens... Sadly it usually takes 20-30 years. Unless it's a part of a very famous specific genre that has a huge market. Then it will be remade in 10 years
