I can relate to some, but let's imagine notes are like recipes; you have recipes for cooking fish, meat, desserts, etc., but now you have in the refrigerator only an apple, tomato, herbs, and chicken. if you use those words to search your notes, you can find among your recipes a recipe containing these ingredients, and you can cook it. Same with notes, you don't need to be a slave of it, but you do need to write them down and organize them in a way that will allow you to dig the information out.

I am always into PKM and started from Palm, Sony Clie. Now I help researchers to do better research and have tried a bunch, yet Roam is still my daily driver. It's the only note taking app that doesn't feel like a technology. Colleagues would say I'm faster than AI, but I think it's just that I use simple system with simple tools.

Bas at 3:17 - "the whole idea of capture now and organise later is a lie" Bas at 12:38 - "focus on taking notes and accept that organising them is a task for future you" So which one is it? 😋

I spoke to my parents who attended Harvard (one of them physics) in the 1980s and I once asked them what system they used in those times when computers were not that helpful for notetaking and apart from writing Academic Papers and one's PHD everything was done on paper. - Their reply? No hacks or magic system just hard work and good organisation.

Well, this applies also when I’ve made my PhD. This doesn’t mean things can be more efficient now that we have digital systems. I’m sure, I’d have achieved a lot more during my studies if I’ve had such system in place back then.

Yes, I struggle with this. What I take notes on in particular, is from memberships and courses - to sort what we should be learning. And I am struggling to find a good system to then organize it into implementation. Any tips?

According to ICOR the information you’re collecting should feed your existing knowledge and therefore naturally expanding it, instead of building silos of separated knowledge.

@@paperlessmove : And how should you know if you have taken some notes on this from before, from another course or mambership?

@@scrappegal you can perfectly achieve this by implementing The Capturing Beast. I explain more about it in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jne6doqDjLKHotEsi=MZkhe0wRMjBCvIO5
