I’ve suffered major depression since my teens and in my 30’s have become disabled; literally unable to work anymore than a couple hours per week. About 8 months ago I crashed my car and whilst looking for a new car to continue the depressed lifestyle, I decided to do something drastic and am now touring the country on a bicycle. It didn’t just cure my depression, it restored my soul. I often have the thought as I’m moving about, “humans are a nomadic species”. Most of us have been convinced that living in boxes so tightly packed together, offering our labour for security is the best way to live. And what do you know, we have all the resources a society could ever need yet all these illnesses have emerged in full force. Movement heals. Glad to see so many others are choosing living over security 👍🏼

Spot on well said. People are living in such ruts including myself at times serving the elites. Power to those who get out and do this. Most people make grand plans while the whole show just passes them by ,then turn around in there late 60s and go where did the last 30 years go. Ah yeah paying off a cardboard box.

Lonely🤔 2018 I bought an old caravan, family did a few modifications to make it off grid. I travelled with them for 6 weeks to see if i was capable. Single older lady with two Dashies, I had an absolute ball, lived cheap as chips, made great long time friends, free camped everywhere. Left WA in the April, got back into NSW in the November. Would do it all again in a heartbeat. Best advice, journal. Take the time to enjoy the trip. P.S We have an awesome country, we are so lucky🥰

I do have kids, but now they are adults and have their own lives, hanging out with me is boring and uncool. @chasingdreamsau2 ай бұрын
Yeah unfortunately cut the video there but I’m sure we could do a part 2 as we have a few more points including those. 👍 But to answer, to be honest there has only been a couple of places we have looked at and gone hhhmmm doesn’t feel too safe and we just leave to the next. Personally we have never had any theft or crime nor have we seen it only heard it from someone who talked to someone that was told by another person. Are we naive that theft doesn’t happen absolutely not but everywhere we go we are told the theft and crime is terrible so all we can do is our best to lock up everything and don’t leave anything out overnight. I believe most are opportunistic rather than to put in work to get something but again that’s only most. As a solo traveller I recommend you talking to people at camp and maybe if you feel comfortable let them know you are on your own, I know that we have had people do this to us and I just keep that extra eye and ear out to make sure they are doing well. Anyway I hope this helps and I think something we should definitely touch on in part 2. Thank you so much for watching and enjoying. P.S. ever want to reach out or ask anything please feel free. 👍

Hey mate, not something we have actually done as of yet. To be honest we try and do it as cheap as we kind of can. We have 2 different accounts one for bills… rego, maintenance, pet insurance, Starlink and a few others and we then have our everyday spendings. Between the accounts we transfer ourselves $820 a week. One thing I have learnt from talking to most travellers is something always goes wrong just before you take off and normally costs thousands haha the week before we left we had a diff issue and clutch was on the way so $7k for us. Otherwise Luna our dog has been the only other thing we haven’t planned on spending money on, she was bitten by a bug and a couple other vet appointments 🤣👍 Hope that helps, but we may need to look into doing a price breakdown. 👍

We did a lap in 2022 and after 2 months I was so homesick. We had to have hail damage repaired on our Ranger so my husband said I’ll stay with the van and you fly home and see the boys (our adult kids) and fur babies. Was the best thing I could have done. Spent a week back home then flew back to my husband and off we went again. I never felt homesick after that. It was just what I needed at the time. A break from holidaying refueled my fire and I am so glad we did our trip. Maybe one day we can do it for a lot longer but for now I’m happy with our year on the road. Great video guys. Oh and it’s definitely a steep learning curve but hubby and I just worked our way through it one step at a time. We had only done a few trips and it was our first van ever but it was some we knew we always wanted to do because we love traveling.

@chasingdreamsau2 ай бұрын
Hey mate, we have actually sold our caravan and now travelling in a rooftop tent. We did enjoy the caravan for sure, battery all comes down to how much usage you need. We believe that around 400amp would be great due to how many electrical items people take with them and Sarah and Keelan do some great breakdowns of this. Keelans rule for solar to amps is 2 watts to 1 amp which his math doesn’t look to lie. Cheers 👍

Thank you so much for watching and enjoying, we hope this helps. 👍 So far we are loving going back to how we found our passion for the adventure, in saying that we have only been in the rooftop tent for 10 weeks and before that 6 weeks in the swag. The swag did start to get to us a little but the rooftop tent has been wonderful, who isn’t to say in another 10 weeks we are over it and can’t wait to get out but we will definitely be transparent if that day comes. Sorry I hope this answers your question. ❤️👍

@chasingdreamsau2 ай бұрын
Wwwooohhhooo how bloody exciting is that! Bring on the adventure. Honestly just using it and testing it is the best way do any kind of trip and just learn your gear. Go with the basics and think of there could have been something to make life easier and research if there is something out there to do so. I would suggest try a few dirt roads and corrugations to give everything a good shake around and then if something needs to be fix it can be done before or if there is a warranty you are still in a place to get it sorted. And after you have done this simulate rain over the van to see if any water leaks. Hope this helps and thank you so much for watching and supporting. 👍

@chasingdreamsau2 ай бұрын
How awesome is that! Such a massive thing for people to do doing and seriously nothing makes us happier than people planning to get out there and make memories. Ourselves we knew we wanted to do our best to stay on the road for as long as we could and saved for 2 and a half years before leaving. Honestly everyday is a learning experience and it’s just thinking about what you actually like and don’t like. My best advice would be to see everything you want to see and don’t let people deter you from that mission. Make sure you take your time and the less planning the less stress, travel how you want to and how you enjoy it. Wiki camps is your best friend take the reviews with a grain of salt as we are all different enjoy different things and have different experiences. What ever you do remember that this trip is for yourself and your wife so do what you love and how you want to do it.

SO with that in mind. THANK YOU! It was well worth the watch. Your budgeting tips were great! I have been planning to do this for over 18months (solo). I'm real close now. Home is nearly sold (next week), I'm checking out Motorhomes and one is nearly bought (September)! Then I am out there! Initially I'll be staying in c/van parks, but my aim is to live off grid for most (if not all of my time) and my break/holiday will be in c/van parks LOL. Taking the hint as well, I'll park the MH somewhere and go to a resort for a week or so and get pampered! About your title ... so not DARK!

If it's after 2pm and you can pull off the road safely, that's your camp site for the night. Set up, crack a drink and fix it tomorrow when your less stressed.
