I went to a (real) dubstep night here in Germany one night. The set's were perfect. At the end of the night another American guy (backwards cap college kid) LOUDLY said "I paid TEN EUROS for that shit?!" .... I shouted from inside the crowd of Germans, 'You should have PAID attention!' - he left looking a bit like a kicked puppy. Guess he was bummed that Excision hadn't spun.

unpopular opinion: imo it was about 2013-2014 dubstep lost its way (in the UK) - a lot of tunes that have been released after that were just unmemorable and had sounds that were really dark/futuristic but lost the fundamentals of what made dubstep (to me) dubstep. rolling basslines and sick drums. i feel it became (and to an extent still is) more about who could make the "sickest sound" than about making straight up skankers for the dancefloor. not to say the tracks aren't sick and well produced obviously, they just weren't for the masses and dubstep lost some of its following accordingly. d1, cyrus, distance, loefah, skream, headhunter, benga, DMZ, kryptic minds etc etc - imo these guys were the peak and they were setting standards in the garage/grime/techno/dub influenced dubstep realm, and dancefloors getting packed out with people who wanted to skank when these guys were on. but as most of those artists moved on to different sounds (which isn't a bad thing), the scene was left to its own devices and i think it's been butchered beyond recognition. i get what loefah says in his interview with youngsta, that it can't be 2005 forever but i feel dubstep really went down the pan way too quickly
