Interesting Vid, almost getting Kenny Lauderdale vibes at the end, trying to find anime in weird formats that no one has heard of... DVDs you say? Also, I had a strange thought about Yasuhiro Yoshiura the other day; whatever happened after Paterma Inverted, nice anime that no one seems to have heard of. It's like Paterma was good, has good reviews, but no one seems to remember it. Very weird tbh.

I was first introduced to A Tree Of Palme by your video on the top 100 anime movies and it quickly became on of my all-time favorite movies, so seeing that you made an entire video on it couldn't make me happier haha Nakamura's work is way too often overlooked nowadays, I would have never discovered A Tree Of Palme without your video and I genuinely don't understand how the movie never got more attention, given how unique and fascinating it is, but also given how big of a project it is I just find it weird that there aren't more people that know about it, it feels like something that shouldn't be this obscure

I really thought I was the only person who had ever seen this surreal epic lol I've always had a very strong personal attachment to Pinocchio, the story of the wooden boy. Tree of Palme is one of my personal favorite versions of the story, although it is the most different from the original, it is also somehow faithful to it. The story, characters and setting have nothing to do with the original, but Palme really does resemble Pinocchio in some ways. He may not have been as cheeky as the original Pinocchio, but he was just as flawed, just as human in character, even though he wasn't human. I personally also really like the ending, in all versions of the story Pinocchio gets what he wished for, which was to become a real boy, Palme didn't manage that, but fulfilled his role as an ark. He turned back into a tree and couldn't live forever with those he loved, but he brought peace to the world, as you said, this movie is about/for the broken, the wounded people, and Palme not only healed himself, but also the people he met, along the way, even to the antagonists. Anyway, thank you for this vid, I really hope, that this amazing movie gets the recognition it deserves. Pinocchio was always meant to be dark and twisted, but also hopeful.

Tree of Palme is an absolutely gorgeous movie, not perfect, but still gorgeous. It has been a while since I have watched it, but I still remember that feeling of not really vibing with it. And perhaps that can be attributed to its long run-time and bloated long scenes. Videos like these really help me see the soul of the production that I might not always catch for one reason or another. This reallly does make me want to go look at older anime from the 90s that I might not even know about. Anne of the Green Gables and Heidi were nice enough, though I prefered Heidi just a teeny bit over Anne.

Ah yes, Tree of Palme. Such a beautiful yet very melancholic film, to say the least. I especially loved the world-build in this film seeing various landscapes is so unique and alien along with the desert environment which totally gives me Dune vibe. Plus, the animation quality helps resonates those elements in this film that still hold to this day. Also, poor Palme, having to endure such a hardship in such a short frame of time, all while losing his mother figure and unable to process his feelings of losing a parental guardian and moving forward to find a new purpose while having such a fragile heart, naivety and challenges to understand the world around him. Especially born as a hollow shell puppet that cannot fully understand and connect to human emotions deeply enough was a tragic sight to see. Wanting to get the wishes he fought so hard to become 'human' only for it to be nothing that he hoped for. But at least in the end, he can finally rest easily in an isolated land as a peaceful tree where nobody can disturb except for Popo watching closely to him was a wish that Palme never would have dreamt of till now. Finally, moving past his guilts and regrets thus, The Tree of Palme. I would give it a 9/10.

Well, if Tree of Palme is a "family film", so is Ralph Bakshi's "Wizards". ...And Disney owns that film, now, and I find that cosmically hilarious - considering the main villain is _a literal black sorcerer who revives the fourth reich in a post-apocalyptic world._

@@StevemOh, I know, and it was quite evident from the offset that it was, but I'd like to consider this more as a "Family" animated movie, rather than a "children's" animated movie, if you understand what I am driving at - meaning essentially any and all movies that fall under the upper echelon of a G rating despite having plenty of PG themes and imagery that can be enjoyed by a broader audience well into teenage years and adulthood. Take for example The Secret of NIMH, The Black Cauldron, or reaaaaaally off-the-cuff stuff like TinTin and The Secret of The Unicorn or Watership Down, which are quite bloody at times, but were intended for a G or PG audience. I tried to find it but only a fifty dollar (USD) dvd on amazon was what i could find. It's saddening. of all the things i could have "forgotten to return" to the library, why wasn't it Tree of Palme. (I'm joking of course.... kind of)

Hey man, I hope you're well. I wished to ask if you could include the access to your Discord server on the respective tier in KZbin Premium as well? I tried to make the payment through Patreon, but I came to find that due to regulations by the Central Bank in my country, making payments through patreon is wholly inaccessible. If not then that's fine. Thank you

Visually beautiful but just extremely disjointed, bad cuts and transitions galore, couldn't really follow the story or care about anyone because everything just happens in a jumble and the tone shifts from one second to another without any establishing or buildup, shit just happens. Almost felt like Tommy Wiseau wrote an anime

Holy shit its related with catnapped thats amazing! I knew the styles seemed so familiar! I loved that movie as a child i thought it was so out of this world and unique for a lil california white kid in the early 2000s! Nothing from disney compared to what catnapped was for me. I imagine that this movie really went thtough a crazy production cause its so unfocused. I like it but many things from the story prevent me from really liking or loving. Like the spirit of the blue woman that in the end is causing the afliction in Palm and the only thing I could feel is how this undermines his character. Not only it kinda comes from nowere but also lessens Palm since its not all his pain or problems of him being a robot. But some ghost in him. I think this is really dumb. Probably my favorite parts of the movie is the begining that is so weird, it really feels like a Moebius comic but with cute anime characters. And the very end when he accept his fate and them we see this beautiful otherworldly tree that almost make the pain of his death/transformation not so bad. But it really could have been something really fantastic but ended just a extremely beautiful but weird curious movie. Unfortunatly probably due all those problems while being made.
@Stevem
@Stevem 6 ай бұрын
I dont agree really, those problems are still there for palme but the blue fairy here has also ended up corrupting him in some way but those insecurities are still his. The entire journey was created by her and she was there to try and keep him on the journey.

@@Stevem I guess. Still her story of being from a warrior race or somethign and putting her ghost inside of him feel out place even for such outlandish movie. Maybe if she was a inventor like Palms creator and managed to put her mind in a machine that before dying she conected to palm or something more close to the overall artificial person thing it would be less jarring. But thats just my feelings to it.

Tatsunoko's Kashi no Ki Mokku (released as "The Adventures of Pinocchio" internationally) , and pretty much all the other Tatsunoko shows like Hutch the Honeybee and Kerekko Demetan that had that ugly looking artstyle were pretty dark as well. Then you have Nippon Animation's version, which is very light hearted in comparison.

The Adventures Of Pinocchio was the first thing I thought of when I saw this video, one of the most depressing/disturbing cartoons I can remember from when I was a kid. It's like they took every bad thing that happens to the character from the original story and amplified it across an entire series, the whole show was just a relentless downer.

Even though it's a very flawed movie, I always found A Three of palm really engaging. I remember watching It several times on TV, late at night. And that's really the perfect way to watch that kind of films, sometimes you watch It from beginning to end, some other Time you just watch the ending or some other random segment in the middle,and other times you're a little tired, you're just zapping around the channels, and for some reason It catches you're attention AND you leave It on, suddenly you're even drifting in and Out of sleep, you get certain moments and when you remember you're not sure if they were part of a movie or a part of you're dreams.

This movie is a visual and aural treat with some really unfortunate pacing and storyboard issues. I can't count the number of scenes that seemed like copy-pastes of the same theme of vehicles getting blown up or crashing into each other. Also the "side kicks" ended up nothing more than reactive husks, and the outer plot (and especially the ending) made no sense whatsoever. Also while the animation is really good it's sullied by poor color choices in places. Especially the grey line work which frequently makes it look flat. It could have benefited by cutting the run time by at least 30 min, simplifying the plot, and working on the lighting of the cels.
@Stevem
@Stevem 6 ай бұрын
I could have done with less action scenes, but it is what is now. I think the issue maybe more the dvd release which had some quirks like aspect ratio stretching and it seemed too dim, which could be because it's a bad transfer. Looking at the cels the linework varies in colours depending on the area i don't see much problem with it.
