I do not know if this was a relocation or if it is how they all were, but a major computer module was located under the passenger seat. This plus leaky t-tops equals disaster. Luckily the guy that sold it to me had an enormous "soon" collection of parts that included a spare of that same module. Crisis averted, but moved on with my life not long after.

I had a 280z as my first into Z cars. Loved it in theory and learned to do a lot mechanically to fix it up, but man those cars came dosed in brine water from the factory I swear. Definitely used to buy stuff from the Z store too that would come wrapped in Japanese newspaper for shipping.

Sold a car on marketplace. Had a family come look at it for their kid. Mom literally said “So, the blue book value on this ‘92 is $1,000, so…” - I cut her off right there and said blue book doesn’t apply to cars from the 90’s. I bit my tongue to not tell her the car was 30 years old, bc yeah, she can do the math, but a 30 year old car in your mind is OLD, but a 90’s car “is like 10 years old” in my mind. 😅 (I was asking $8k, and took $7k - from an out of state buyer. That lady pulling the blue book value for negotiating still cracks me up.)

I sorta missed the market when they were selling for $10k+ on BaT, but figured a 90’s Japan touring car was a future classic! I can tell you from experience that eastern NC does NOT have many Z's in salvage yards and what is left has been picked clean (many years since I last visited). I ended up rear ending someone in Wilson and bent the frame. My brother and I gutted it and used it as a farm toy for a bit. It's amazing how much faster a car is when it's gutted.

Many Datsuns later I now own a 72 Datsun 521 pickup with a carburetored KA24E with 240z SUs slightly modified, 74 Datsun 610 sedan, still own the 810 wagon, have also a 82 Datsun Maxima sedan with a L28ET turbo engine from a 280zx and a 87 Nissan Van 5spd.

Emissions removed, cammed, headers, wide-throat throttle body. I had a potentiometer driven by the throttle linkage that was in-line with the coolent temp sensor to enrich depending on throttle angle. Over 1200 hydrocarbons at idle, had to have a section of straight pipe to swap for the catalytic converter after passing emissions testing because the carpet over the tunnel would get crazy hot if you idled too long

In the middle 70's, while stationed on Guam, I bought a '74 240Z, the last 240Z model before all of the US imposed pollution regs. It ran like fire. There is one highway on Guam that runs from the northeast corner of the island to the main town of Agana, 12 or so miles long, that we used to run late at night. 4 speed manual, would do 90 in 2nd, and topped out at just under 160mph. But it was on Guam, so in the 2 years that I owned it, the body literally disintegrated. Sold it for what I paid for it, bought a Mazda pickup. Probably saved my life getting rid of it. The guy that bought it, also a sailor on Guam, spent huge wads of cash to fix the body, complete with repaint back to its original bright orange. Then he wrapped it around a coconut tree one night, doing what we were doing before I sold it. High speed, low drag to the end.

These are cool cars and make excellent platforms, especially for their era. The proof is in the S130's very successful tenure in various types of sanctioned auto racing. They got a bad rap because the debut 1979 model year had some strange design choices going on- Steering box and Cadillac style suspension come to mind. All of this was corrected by 1981, but they shit the bed again in 1983 with that pneumatic head. S30 guys like to talk a lot of shit, but it's hard to take them seriously when they're busy ripping the engines, transmissions, turbo and fuel delivery components and every other fucken thing out of S130's to use in their cars. The S130 is a great jumping off point for a killer oldschool Z build.

I bought it once just to get my truck towed 50 miles, and they were totally cool with me using it a few days after I got it (their CS rep actually recommended doing it). 11:22 I actually saw a white one near my office this week.
