I’ve always liked Arcturus’ faux-Dauntless Class. Too bad he was so stupid and hell bent on revenge; 🤔I would have gathered up as many of my people that I could and sojourned along side Voyager as refugees to the Federation, far far away from the Borg… minus transwarp corridors… .

4:10 - That's correct. According to Kevin and Ben Hageman, the uniforms and combadges for the Protostar crew are uniquely specific to the ship: "Since the USS Protostar is an experimental starship, we felt it gave us some freedom to create our own uniform design, as long as it fit alongside the uniforms of this era. We, [executive producer] Ben Hibon, and our design team spent a lot of time discussing the badge and uniforms. We had to balance the style of our series, while also recognizing these kids aren’t actually anywhere close to being Starfleet Officers, which is why we went for a stripped-down design." They added that, "we all know different styles of combadges often co-existed in the same era, and we knew we wanted something special for Prodigy."

That's the plot thread to keep the parents engaged. Doesn't mean much to the kids unfamiliar with the other series, but it adds some mentor characters that feel experienced because their history is already very fleshed out, along with the world. Plus visual consistency for if/when they stumble over some Lower Decks images or clips from the older series, tying it all together and making the jump-off easier. Also that moment in some families' living rooms when Janeway and her Dauntless get introduced, and dad's eyes go wide and he lets out a quiet "ooooh...!" They don't know what it means - but by that reaction alone they know it means _something_ important.

The big question, then, is what happened to Chakotay and his crew? Where did they go? Were they on Tars Lamora the whole time and we never saw them? That seems unlikely. Though that sounds cool in my opinion both ships are far to distinct for one auxiliary of the other my guess is that starfleet finaly started working on projects for ftl without dilithium to try and avoid the incoming shortage that would have been felt right before the burn later for some reason both were shelved maybe because like the modern fossil fuels criss the federation was a bit to resistant and conservative to change the status quo
@kaitlyn__L

@@cvs0202 I thought the issue for slipstream being mainstream was just the Benamite crystals were rare? But all the 32nd century ships seem to have the capability, going from Booker’s dialogue. They could’ve had a few centuries of amazing transwarp expansion and then realised those crystals are even harder to find than dilithium.
@cvs0202
@cvs0202 2 жыл бұрын
@@kaitlyn__L it cant be though as they are produced not natural at least according to memory alpha, yes they are hard to produce and take years but something tells the federation if it wanted to develop quicker more effective ways to synthesis the crystals and mass production so that after the first couple years of shortage they would just have them on mass Like what happened to quantum torpedoes would happen with benamite crystals. The federation would start to use them develop the infrastructure to mass produce them as well as tech to make it easier to produce up till a point when even the planetary and semi isolationist government of United earth is able to use them as default on their ships same would happen with benamite crystals. But it is obvious this didn't happen as starfleet was still searching for alternative forms of ftl travel in 3000 as well as that the burn wouldn't have happened
@kaitlyn__L
@kaitlyn__L 2 жыл бұрын
@@cvs0202 tbh that’s a slightly flawed take from Memory Alpha. The form Voyager used was not its natural form but that doesn’t necessarily imply there’s no natural resources used in that production. We know they take months to grow but no information is given on what the raw materials were - it could be very much like getting a pure metal from ore, analogous to crystal formation through electrolysis which is how we produce some metals. Or perhaps it was something more akin to growing salt crystals, but again with a rarer mineral. We just don’t know. But having to be refined by humans doesn’t necessarily imply there’s no scarcity problems, not at all.

Possibly, the Protostar was sent (or slipped) back in time, and in the current timeline Chakotay led a crew which recovered it. If they go that route, it would allow the ship to be from pretty much any time period, while keeping the missing crew in the approximate time-frame of the show.

Meanwhile our society tried to rip itself apart over the simple choice of not exposing others to a virus that could lead to long term damage or death... I'd be more surprised if there weren't multiple viewpoints on such a big decision. And with their species seeming somewhat predisposed to be proud and stoic, I can absolutely see neither of the factions wanting to give in. If you then introduce a good helping of idealism, the whole thing becomes a powder keg... Fits well with their "solution" to the situation being "go back in time and blow it all up".

I don't even think the diviner even mentioned if their civilization even reached faster then speed light yet. I find that interesting cause in first contact, the Vulcan's showed no interest in making contact with humans until we finally reached the speed of light. The fact of the matter, the Vulcan's made this decision because they knew we would make first contact regardless. It's funny cause the United Earth and Vulcans help create United Federation of Planets so you would think they would continue to make contact based on that logic.

Oh, you’ve just said that now :) you’ve said you think it’s just another badge design which then moved-on to the Picard one. The Prodigy show runner has said as much. They are keeping tabs on each other and view this post-Dominion war era as an era of expansion and experimentation, which is then cut short by the Utopia Planetia bombing and destruction of Romulus, hence the multiple different styles of uniforms and badges in use seemingly concurrently. Personally, as Trek has always played it a little fast and loose with canon, I can look past minor inconsistencies, especially if the individual shows are still good.

In fact, AIUI this is also how Federation fusion reactors work - instead of magnetic or inertial confinement like we use today, they just use subspace force fields to hold and compress the plasma much more densely. Of course an entire protostar is larger and heavier than a bunch of deuterium plasma, but once you get it set up, it feeds the force field all the same.

So many writers try to do time-travel plots. They don't realize that any interaction with the past generates a new branch and doesn't change the "home" timeline. It's very rarely correctly displayed as an overwrite / shift mechanic (Back to the Future style ) A big piece to my puzzle of "Classic timeline vs Borg-First Contact / ST:Ent timeline" presented itself recently. The original Dauntless used the registry of NX-01 A. We know it was fake, but it was an elaborate ruse to trick Voy. Artus, knowing Starfleet naming schemes, picked a historic name & reg to parallel a ship with an experimental drive. Logically leading that the original NX-01 was named Dauntless, classic timeline Archer's ship name. Where there was no visit of the borg and Ent-E crew to inspire the name Enterprise.

Stars are just fusion/fission Stock impulse sublight engines use fusion reactors Antimatter or some reasonably fashioned quantum technology is far more powerful, or the Romulans singularity based power source. @@Revkor "not Romulan home star" - alpha canon has actually left this vague. It's just referred to as 'the Romulan star'. If you've heard it called 'the Hobus supernova' then that's from beta sources. "the Romulan Imperial fleet. they have hundreds of D'Deridx's to starfleet isn't quite needed for this." - A D'deridex is built for war, not for mass civilian evacuation. And anyway, there's a lot more complexity to evacuation than just having lots of ships. Most of your effort is going to be spent on embarking and disembarking, and on giving them places to actually go TO. The Federation has experience with humanitarian missions, and it has places for refugees to go to, and it has industrial facilities (like Mars) that can run at full capacity because the workers aren't trying to flee the nova... There are a lot of reasons Federation aid would be valuable. Besides, isn't helping out thy neighbour in character for the Federation? Even if you think the Romulans are capable of handling it themselves, the Federation could surely lend aid to make it easier.
@Revkor
@Revkor 2 жыл бұрын
@@Nalehw wrong D'Deridex is also a tropp dransport so while starfleet can help the distruction of that fleet at mars would not be a major blow to the evac. D'Deridex is bigger then a galaxy but not strigner. why? it holds far more troops then what a Galaxy can.
@SKy_the_Thunder
@SKy_the_Thunder 2 жыл бұрын
@@Revkor If it's indeed _not_ the star in the Romulan home system, there's much more of a reason for a large scale evacuation, because for some reason it ended up destroying Romulus. So any planet in any other system within the same radius or more would need to be evacuated too. Being so close to Romulus itself, these are likely many of the core worlds with large populations, requiring much more effort to evacuate. (Far from the first time some "quantum" or "subspace" anomaly affects several light years.) Add to that the typical political backstabbing within Romulan society which would absolutely lead to them going "Oooh nooo, all our ships are at the other side of the Empire, protecting it from some totally real threat and we don't have enough to evacuate everyone who doesn't approve of our leadership..." So they shuffle that off to the Federation, to set them up for failure and establish some pseudo-colonies in their territory. With those undesirables disillusioned through that very rushed evacuation, it's easy to infiltrate them and use them to annex those systems for the Empire later.

Why do you say the doomsday weapon is unknown? The Diviner's weapon was the equivalent of a computer virus - it would infect the Federation ship's and make enemies appear as friendly and vice-versa, meaning Starfleet would destroy itself (literally - ships would see each other as hostile targets). All that has to happen for it to infect the Federation computers is for the Protostar to come into contact with other Starfleet ships, at which point it can propagate to the other ships in the fleet. That's why Gwyn kept repeating the "we can't go [to Starfleet]" - by going to the Federation, when the Protostar comes into contact with a Starfleet vessel it will destroy Starfleet, which would prevent the Vau N'Akat first contact from happening (and thus the Diviner wins by default. Since Gqyn lost her memory of the virus, it sets up the cliffhanger ending: the Dauntless is coming to the Protostar, which means it will get infected and be able to spread the virus. The comm badges are not alternate future ones (they originally were in the TNG episodes, but they look the same to me as the ones Starfleet is using in Picard in 2399/2401; they also appeared in Discovery season 3, when Michael rejoined the ship after her year alone (she brought back collections of comm badges, etc., and they were put on the wall in her re-union with Tilly scene).

I don't think Dred-Nok is gone for good. In fact I think Dred-Nok maybe full of surprises. Dred seemed to react with a bit of surprise and recognition when he saw the Janeway hologram and mistook it for the real Janeway. It was as if Dred really wanted to see Janeway and was angry all he got was a command hologram. Remember the Voyager episode Dreadnaught?! The Diviner could corrupt machines. The buffer for Dred's design was inside of the Voyager's main computers. Dred-Nok is at least possibly a corrupted Federation robot created by Torres and an iteration of the Dreadnaught AI. He is not technology created by the Diviner's race. Diviner put the 'machine bending' whammy on him to take the ship from the inside via compromising his systems. His morality algorithms have been gutted. Much as what happened to Data.
@invisi-bullexploration2374
@invisi-bullexploration2374 2 жыл бұрын
I see it like this. The Protostar's provisional Crew consisted of Janeway and Chakotay on the bridge and Dred was the ship's engineer and maybe a few other functions. He kept everything running behind the scenes. I also have a feeling the Diviner was so insane that exposure to the Medusian may have been an IMPROVEMENT. I think that crazy idiot got ahold of Command code. Which is what he used to do his whole machine corrupting deal. So yeah, thanks to Diviner Command is on its way to federation space.

Two things. First, having just watched the end of the Prodigy season, I am not sure why you are unclear as to what the Diviner put on the ship. While I do not know the particulars, I do know he said that should the Protostar come into contact with another Starfleet vessel, the "weapon" would then cause the ships to turn on each other in order to tear Starfleet apart. Obviously, this is some kind of insidious computer virus that may turn the Starfleet ships into AI - much like the TOS ship in the TOS episode "War Games," with the M6 computer gone amok. The second thing I wanted to mention is that the people making the current Star Trek series are indeed working to knit the different series together. Case in point, when creating the body for the Trill Guardian wannabe who had been the Trill Symbiote's former host before it was melded to a human body to inhabit, the Doctor on Discovery says that the first time they had done such a transference of consciousness was for "an old Starfleet Admiral named Picard." I grant you, that was only one line & it only tied the Picard series to Discovery extremely loosely, but still. It's a start, at least.
@bcn1gh7h4wk
@bcn1gh7h4wk 2 жыл бұрын
Discovery is not even canon. in the odd case that you might want to remotely consider it canon, it's barely a 6th-dimensional construct spun around the idea that when the Kelvin incident happened, the divergence created not a branching timeline, but a parallel dimension with it's own past. and FROM that past is that the future we see in Discovery is spun out..... as in, it introduces the idea of anti-time, blasting away towards the past and creating an actual reality, and from that reality creating another reality through proper time, instantly. the Picard mentioned in there is nowhere near the Picard we know..... hell, it might even be an actual Frenchman, with a full headful of hair, and a knack for high-stakes poker. Discovery is NOWHERE NEAR the same plane of existence as the main timeline. it's not the mirror universe, it's a totally different universe, *with it's own mirror universe*.
@timothyhansen6581
@timothyhansen6581 2 жыл бұрын
@@bcn1gh7h4wk "Anti-time" was first introduced in "All Good Things...", the TNG finale. It was also the very foundation of "Star Trek: First Contact." So, anti-time IS canon. The Picard reference in Discovery was a call-back to Star Trek: Picard's Season 1 finale, where the consciousness of a dying Jean-Luc is transferred into an Android body - or "golem," as he put it - as a way of explaining how they could create an artificial body for the Trill Guardian wannabe to inhabit. Just like I said before. Granted, Star Trek: Picard isn't Prime Timeline, either, since they used the Class C shuttles from Discovery, but at least Picard & Discovery are canon to each other, anyway. Also, I think both the crew of the JJ-verse & the fans who created Star Trek: Online would have something to say about saying only stuff that happens in the "Prime" Timeline is canon. Hell! Even the series Enterprise dealt with Mirror Universe crap, as did TOS. The Multi-verse exists, in many different franchises. Get over it.
