I love Take Five. I can see it used in a later Fantasia movie, as the music really suggests a story. And it is a great starter for anyone looking into Jazz.

Is it weird to comment on a 7 year old video? Lol. I only got into vinyl records a few years ago and only seriously in the last year. I picked up this album a few months back because I heard the hype. I loved it so much I repurchased it in the 2xlp 45 rpm 200g format mentioned . It is one of the best sounding records I have heard. I believe it’s a must own even if your not really into jazz. Great vid.

Just bought the Quality Records 200 gram stereo vinyl version of the record from Analogue Productions and it sounds absolutely magnificent. Spotless reproduction and as smooth sounding as vinyl records can get. What a relaxing treat for the ears.

Me too! It's a much better mastering than the CD or even stereo SACD (which I would not believed before I heard this vinyl mastering). Wish all my records sounded this good!

I first heard "Take Five" when I was 8 years old. I loved it. I didn't know it was Jazz. I just loved the tune. It also helped that it was the theme music for a children's after school show I loved at 8 years old. :)

If you haven't found/heard them, I recommend Brubeck's So, What's New? and Concord on a Summer Night. I'd love to hear what you think, some time. Concord is really close to my home. I've seen lots of shows there. Good memories.

I wonder what master they used for the 45 rpm release. I heard his masters got destroyed in a fire back in 2008 along with a lot of other artists masters.

Anytime someone comes over and claims they hate jazz, I put this record on and it shuts them up, toot suite! I'd date that song too :) And what beautiful artwork... This and Mingus Ah Um are peas in a pod, to me (and probably due to the artwork being similar, both being '59 and Columbia)... I'm trying to hit the archive, Eric!

Just wanted to take the time to say thank you for introducing me to this LP along with Louis Prima The Wildest and many others. Also, I hope you've the chance to hear the 200-Gram, 45 RPM version of this LP it will knock you over and so will the price at 78 bucks. But damn the qua;ity of the packaging and pressing is REALLY nice.

+MrBfg586 Wow, that's really cool to hear, thank you for sharing. Yeah, $78 is steep but I can see justifying it if it's one of your favorite albums. I might just pick it up if I see it at my local shop

I'm late to this party, but if anyone is interested, I highly recommend the Analog Productions version of this album if you love the album. It is pricey, but if you love the album like I do, you know you will listen to it for years and years to come (possibly decades). It truly sounds amazing, and you don't need a "super system" to hear those differences. I have decent system, and that's all you need. Cheers!

Great album! Another review suggestion for some great old albums that you can find on vinyl (I suggested Frank Zappa's Hot Rats on another comment) would be some Miles Davis. Round About Midnight, Kind of Blue or Bitches Brew would all be good choices.

@VinylRewind8 жыл бұрын
+Jomme de Jong are you talking about this album specifically? Or in the general sense? Discogs.com is the best place to identify your particlar release for any given record.
@jommedejong46718 жыл бұрын
Vinyl Rewind Thanks for reacting :). I know about discogs but I can't find if my lp's are first pressing on the website.
@VinylRewind8 жыл бұрын
+Jomme de Jong you have to look at your catalogue number, matrix number and even the markings on the inside of the trail off wax. Using that information, you can deduce the year it was pressed. Usually reissues (non-first pressings) will have a RE next to the title.

I have the first ever reissue of this album with Take Five emphasized on the cover. I love this album so much that I almost don't play the vinyl that much. I would advise readers to stay away from the Columbia Jazz Masterpieces version. The digital remastering of the album made it sound thin and shrill. I am not aware of the double album version but even the 60s and 70s reissue is way better than the CJM issue. This along with John Coltrane's Giant Steps and Miles Davis' Kind of Blue are the most memorable jazz albums released within a year from each other. How about a review of the other two I mentioned?
@VinylRewind8 жыл бұрын
oh really, good to know. I don't usually go for reissues unless original issues are way too much money. I added your votes for both of the albums you mentioned.
@bpabustan8 жыл бұрын
Vinyl Rewind There are certain collectors who will shy away from reissues done in 2000 up as a lot of those reissues use WAV files instead of the original master tapes. That is why the latest reissues of Jimi Hendrix and the Beatles in Mono are highly recommended as there was no digital process in the remastering.
@VinylRewind8 жыл бұрын
I understand, for me, it has more to do with if the pressing was sourced from a CD or not. BarakaPDub has a great video talking on the subject kzbin.info/www/bejne/lXuQgXqelrqLl80

Vinyl Rewind hhhmmmm will check this out.....
@bpabustan8 жыл бұрын
Ok I saw the video and I agree with the guy on so many occasions. While I still insist on all analogue mastering on vinyl, I cannot deny the fact that vinyl mastered from digital source can also yield very good results. The Beatles recent stereo reissues are very good. Even the Pantera studio box set on Rhino I heard were done well too. That is why in the 90s, many vinyl releases at the time were very incosistent as the art of using digital source for vinyl is still not developed.

I disagree that time signatures are not important to the listener. Once you can count out the beats you'll spot any time signature in any song. Essential for getting into it I reckon. Also, 6/8 is very common. Lots and lots of popular hits use it. Count out your 1,2,3 - 2,2,3 and repeat. I'd say close to 85% of popular songs are in 4/4. 6/8 taking second place, with 7/4 and 5/4 far behind.
@michaelwilson94506 жыл бұрын
I get where you're coming from. Chet Baker blew the doors off for me when I bought a compilation in 2015. Jazz is resistance without violence in a modern era of music gone stale., Your favorite jazz album can be a hipsters sword. Coolness over conformity people!
