Totally agree- you can do 90% of the editing with the Speed Editor on the Cut Page - and then head off to the rest of the pages for fine tuning... I never appreciated the Cut Page fully until I started using the Speed Editor

Right? It blows my mind how much I have been missing out on

Glad people are seeing the benefits of the cut page. I'm NEW to editing. In my 60's and have never edited a video before DR18. (not one) Researched all the options for professional programs and went with DR. Starting with a blank slate, I wanted to learn the most efficient way to edit without memorizing 50 shortcut key combinations because I don't come from the keyboard video game era. (The Windows PC was just released when I was your age.) My overall evaluation of editing options brought me to DR with the SPEED Editor and CUT page. (It's a no brainer as you said) But few do detailed video tutorials about the CUT page with SPEED Editor so here we are a year later and I'm still trying to figure all of this out. I've asked those creating YT courses for step by step tutorials about each page starting with the Media page covering every detail an editor would need to know, nobody has created them for DR18.5 It's always a fast paced overview of DR18 can do. Because the layout and settings changed from DR17 forward. The older video tutorials take more time to decipher as you look through the thousands of settings trying to figure out the instructions, wasting valuable time going in circles. PS: For those creating these DR tutorials. I would be happy to pay $250 for a full detailed tutorial of the DR18.5 using SPEED Editor, Media, Cut, Edit pages and another $500 for Fusion, Color, Fairlight, Deliver. Just point me to the creator of these tutorials. Thanks

I am like you (although I have used other editors in the past and exclusively use DR). I have the speed editor too. Like you, I would pay someone who could answer my questions as needed. Kind of like a person who is on "retainer" for quick questions. Anyway, I also think that the tutorials out there, while helpful, are more about "Hey y'all, watch how good I can edit" rather than explaining why they click on this or that. I have been helped by YT videos, but have to watch their cursor at a slow pace, sometimes replaying again and again until I see "Oh, THAT'S why he clicked there!" Would be great if the YT geniuses were more about the teaching and less about themselves.

How long did it take you to get comfortable with it? I am considering buying it since it has Studio version license included, so it's a no brainer that way. Just a little more expensive and you get a solid device.
@jakefelzien Жыл бұрын
not long once i actually focused on learning what each button did, in fact I have been planning to make a "speed editor for beginners" video. This one was too fast. Didn't cover the basics. And i think if you start there, you'll be using it in no time. Not all buttons are all that helpful in the beginning. but with just a few you are able to do some serious damage and turn cutting into a really fun process. Again though, this is my "cutting tool" and so i do still use the edit page and therefore it can't do everything which is fine. and yeah, for the studio license, it makes this purchase so easy to justify haha.
@ErikFrits Жыл бұрын
@@jakefelzien Thanks, appreciate that! I will surely check video for beginners once I get my hands on this device. I mainly hope that I can speedup my cutting process, because I have a weird workflow of recording screen and me speaking out of sync, and then I need to adjust clips to sort of flow together. Could you also show in your upcoming video for beginners if we can change clip speed.

Hey Jake I have Davinci Resolve and have struggled to make complex edits on my Windows 10 Pro because it's so slow but I'm looking to buy a macbook that runs the program much faster and allows me to make edits such as the ones in this video. I was looking at the macbook pro but I don't know which chip is right and how much memory is enough. Any recommendations?
@jakefelzien Жыл бұрын
Hey happy to help! With the right settings you can get away with just about anything Apple Silicon these days. It is truly crazy. Personally I would try to go for higher than 16 GB of Ram if you can. 24 or 32. and other than that, whatever chip you can afford that can have that RAM should be plenty in my experience. And if you do have some slowdowns, check out my settings video for potato computers with resolve. I used to edit everything on a Mac Mini (even professionally)

I managed to work quite happily with DR on a 2013 Intel desktop Mac. There are some options for making editing smoother - e.g. using the cache and rendering to a lower resolution. Try searching for some tips on KZbin. Now I have a MacBook Pro, so I don’t even need to think about performance!

How about 2 or 3 guys flying formation with their $20K jets whil you record their conversations over remote mics U never used before. That's my kind of editing. OH it's all done sitting in my Swivle, rocker, recliner, My laptop on a swivle stand with a 60" UHDTV ans monitor 2 Mouse on the righ armm Speed Editor on the left arm of the recliner.
