I must agree this video is definitely one of the best explanations of the Speed Editor I have ever seen, and I have watched pretty much every video I could find on KZbin about the Speed Editor. It's a shame there are only 565 subscribers to this KZbin channel. More people need to be watching the channel's videos.

Having trouble with my DaVinci Resolve Speed Editor keyboard. It's not responding during editing sessions despite being fully charged and recognized by my computer. Indicator lights aren't working either. Tried on different computers and reinstalled the software, but no luck. Any suggestions?
@VIDTOOLZ11 ай бұрын
It sounds like you have been doing quite a lot of troubleshooting so far, but can you think of what you haven’t tested out yet? Have you tried a different cable, to a different port? Is the behaviour the same when using bluetooth?
@karakur11 ай бұрын
@@VIDTOOLZ Yes, I have used different cables and different ports, both regular USB and type-c. Everything was working fine just a week ago. After installing the new version 18.6, the keyboard doesn't work. I installed an earlier version where everything was fine, but it still doesn't work with it. Maybe there's some issue with the keyboard itself. Although Bluetooth detects it right away
@karakur11 ай бұрын
@@VIDTOOLZ If I'm not mistaken, there used to be a separate keyboard update along with the program update. Now I can't find such updates in the support service. Or any drivers for this keyboard.

So you suspect it might be a driver issue? I think you should write to the Blackmagic Forum about this, if other users are experiencing the same issue.

Great presentation 👍nicely paced and narrated! My question is…I was expecting the speed editor to be a ‘stand alone’ device? How do you select clips in the media pool without using your mouse? It seems that the mouse and device have to work in conjunction with each other? I noticed in your video your cursor moving around on screen?
@VIDTOOLZАй бұрын
Thank you. Good question. I think the speed editor is designed to be used in conjuction and supplement the traditional mouse and keyboard work. it gives more options for the user, to do the same tasks.

Thanks. I thought this thing was useless for fiction editors, and you just confirmed it.
@VIDTOOLZ Жыл бұрын
Now I'm curious, what makes this tool useless particularly to fiction editors?
@supercanardo Жыл бұрын
Looks like it's great to place shots in the timeline. But this is bricklaying. Editing fiction and long form docs sees you using trim tools all the time, especially asymmetrical trims, once the shots have been placed in the timeline. And that's clearly an area where this tool seems to have little to offer. Back in the days, Lightworks came up with a jog-shuttle device and it allowed you to do everything without to have to touch the mouse, including complex trims with many tracks. Davinci is very fiddly, the more I use it. Shame because I really wanted to like it as I like the company being it.
@PhoenixNomads10 ай бұрын
How did you do the J & L Cut using the Roll Key? On my DaVinci i first have to resolve the Link from Clips to actually do that. If i keep the Link of clips it will always select the video and the audio clips. So how did you do this just with the Speed Editor? If i have to click, and use my mouse anyway... than the Speed Editor is no use for doing the J & L Cuts. Maybe im missing something. I rewatched your ROLL part multiple times. Don't know how you did it. Please explain. Good Video Cheers Daniel
@VIDTOOLZ10 ай бұрын
Could this be because you use the audio from your camera, in which case the video and audio are linked automatically. I tend to not do that, instead I use audio from my external recorder, in which case the video and audio are initially not linked, until I manually link them. This was the first thing that came to my mind.
@johnnycashlesscomedy8616 Жыл бұрын
Really fantastic. Will watch again! I love the speed editor, but wish it could do more in the edit page - would love if it could target tracks and choose A or V. Would I need the editor keyboard to do that? I'm out of desk space with the Advanced Panels V2, Mackie midi mixer, Editorkeys backlit keyboard. The speed editor sits on the main panel, below the trackballs. Not ideal, but it fits.

After pressing the RIPL DEL key, the current clip is deleted, but there remains an empty space that I have to delete afterwards :( How to fix it so that the created gap is also deleted?
@VIDTOOLZ10 ай бұрын
As the name of the function implies, the ripple delete should both delete and close the gap in timeline. Are you using the cut or the edit page while experiencing this behaviour? Most likely you have some other command active, that overrides the ripl del command. For example, you could have the auto track selector (found in the timeline window) inactive on the track you are trying to do your delete.
@chadas10 ай бұрын
@@VIDTOOLZYes, used by the CUT site. How can I check and possibly correct the correctness of the command? I checked the keyboard shortcuts but I don't know how it should be to do it correctly. The track selector will be fine if it removes the current clip.
@VIDTOOLZ10 ай бұрын
The best way to make sure every keyboard command is behaving as they are supposed to, is to go to the keyboard customization windows and choose from the upper right drop down menu the default “DaVinci Resolve” keyboard layout. The RIPL DEL command behaves a bit differently in the cut page when compared to the edit page as in the cut page the ripl del behaviour on by default. Whereas in the edit page, the RIPL DEL is not active by default.
@chadas10 ай бұрын
@@VIDTOOLZYes, there will probably be an error. How should it be set correctly so that it works on the CUT page and deletes both the clip and the gap at the same time?
@VIDTOOLZ10 ай бұрын
@@chadasThe problem you describe is most likely related to the timeline you have open and the settings you have on that specific timeline. You can verify this by creating a new timeline and trying the same function there, does it now behave the same on the new timeline?
@disco.jellyfish3 ай бұрын
Very helpful video indeed, but it would've been much more useful if you had used split screen or picture in picture, where you show the editing keyboard and Davinci Resolve at the same time making it easier to see what a certain key did.

Since I’m new to the Speed Editor, I had high hopes for this video. Alas, it was aimed at someone who actually had detailed experience with Resolve editing, which I don’t have. There was reference to a location such as “at the ??? Point, which might have been shown, but wasn’t, leaving me once again to guess. I assume this would be quite useful to an experienced editor moving to the speed editor. Perhaps I will try it again in a few months. Oh, the 4000+ page manual gives references without illustrations too. Yes, that would make it longer. But useful.
@VIDTOOLZ Жыл бұрын
If the basics of video editing are still not familiar to an aspirant, then this video can seem to be a bit of an overload of information. Often the key to learning is patience. A good idea is to pause the video at each key and give time for trying out each function in practice, at your own pace, and the concepts will slowly start to clarify.

Speed Editor or Stream Deck with profiles from Sideshowfx or both? I see Sideshowfx sells Pro and Color profiles now and I already have a Stream Deck XL. What control is most practical for editing and controlling color? Thanks
@VIDTOOLZ Жыл бұрын
The best tool for color is the Blackmagic design Mini panel, if you have lots of free desk space, if not, then the micro panel is the best. The Blackmagic design Speed editor is meant for, and is excellent for editing.

@@VIDTOOLZ if someone will get the speed editor and also has a stream deck, does it make sense to use the programmed macros in the stream deck along with the speed editor?
@VIDTOOLZ Жыл бұрын
@@AlphaTroll When you look at working editors, everyone uses their tools differently. So, whatever method happens to work for the individual editor, that is the “correct” way to work. And our methods never stop to evolve as we get new tools at our disposal.
