It's more now that they have released a product and still haven't updated the marketing ( their steam page at the very least) to reflect what the game truly is. As stated the game isn't an MMO when every server can only hold around 30 players ( arguable), and it definitely isn't a survival game anymore but rather an extraction game.

Yeah. It's really is. You can buy the city from Unreal Engine Marketplace. Probably other assets are from there too. Using pre-made assets are fine. But this is just that. I wonder how little percentage they actually modelled. It's literally just put together and probably in no time. Barebones of a game, no way it was in active development for 5 years. They promised... something so they had to release something. Put the Early Access tag there to defend themselves. Funny that many people actually buy this bullshit.

The thing about having the "give it a year or two to get better" mentality is that it normalizes half baked, underdelivered, releases and lets companies rely on post-launch patches to finish development which is why games like Elden Ring and Baldur's Gate 3 feel so ahead of the curve; they ship out a game which actually works as advertised and meets expectations (even exceeding) from players.

I think a PvPvE zombie survival game set in a big city like NY or Chicago with accessible interiors and multi-level structures would be AWESOME. My favorite thing is when devs be like: “This is a brand new game you have never seen before!” And it s a freaking generic shooter. -.- looking at you, game awards. They have the same problem with CGI trailers It is disappointing but I hope people learn their lesson. I learned my lesson with Cyberpunk and Avengers but at least Cyberpunk had a redemption ark! There’s no hope for these guys. There’s no way they can recover. They should just cut their losses and run. Probably will to if Steam comes after them.

the saddest part of all of this, is the extraction shooter community is begging for a more casual experience than tarkov, DMZ from Call of Duty really had a chance, but in typical Activision fashion; they dropped the ball. there are hundreds of thousands of people looking for an extraction shooter, FPS experience that doesn't require 500 hours to understand. FN could have legit went this route and made a lot of money, but for some reason everyone has to present themselves as the next revolution in gaming, and it's simply ruining gaming. i'm really hoping the guys from Madfinger Games are able to knock it out of the park with Gray Zone, because eventually someone will. whoever finally does accomplish this, absolutely deserves the oodles of doubloons that get showered upon them.

I just never understood why people were excited for this game. Its the same as a ton of other games that are already out and have had dev support for years. DayZ, H1Z1, The Division. It seems like the type of game that would have come out during the 2010 zombie craze. I just cant understand why it exists and why people were hyped. How different did they expect an open world zombie survival game to be?

IMO they totally weren't expecting this "game" to be so popular, they thought they'd be scamming 10 guys at most and that'd be it, everyone would forget it by the next day. But once it got so much media coverage they had to hurriedly come up with something.

What really confuses me is why would they lie about the game? People will refund it the second they see that it doesn’t look or play like the trailers. Plus, people knew the game looked shady a while ago. They couldn’t have made much money off of it, and they are probably going to lose more of lawsuits are on the way. Or just going bankrupt because they can’t keep the company afloat because people aren’t buying their terrible game. These aren’t the days of seeing something on a shelf on GameStop and buying it blind. Almost every game you see has reviews on the same page you purchase it.

I tried playing DayZ a couple years ago and there was nobody online so I ended up refunding it because I couldn't find any other players. I had played Arma 2 and 3 many years ago with some friends so I was aware of DayZ, but when I tried to play it there was nobody else playing. 🤷‍♂

They were transitioning from the old legacy RV engine codebase and adopting new Enfusion engine subsystems during that period and it was taking a while. Consequently, lots of players dropped off during that update drought. However, they've since finished all that engine work and have now been delivering consistent updates and content. Resultantly, the game is in a great state now and player's numbers are higher than they've ever been.
