My wife and I own a 88 1/2 Black Toyota Supra Turbo. We are the original owners and we did a total restore about 10 years ago including the engine. It looks and runs like brand new. Ours is stock and it even had the original Turbo still in it and working perfectly. Amazing car!

I had a similar situation with a young guy that heard my car start and he came over and asked me what I had done to it and which performance shop I had tuned my car. I said real dyno performance and he said aren’t they expensive and I said not really because they use good products and he has worked out which is great for the customers and I had mine done by them and I haven’t had an issue with it after first getting them to tune and service it. He is that honest and won’t people to come back he is the second honest mechanic I have found to go to.

A longer stroke, beefy version of the 1JZ to the point they even share the some of same parts ofc being the same line in engine 😐 so it was still a project by Yamaha just Toyota made it buffer and who said anything about the LFA? Literally a supercar he was talking about Supra and Yamaha basically designed and did the drivetrain and transmission, Toyota never makes their own sports cars buddy and 99%? Do you know anything about the 2J?

Codeveloped implies (nearly) an equal share of developmemt, but I guarantee you if there was no Yamaha, there'd still be a JZ renowned for it's quality, whereas if there were no Toyota, there'd be no JZ at all

I read through as much comments as I could and surprised no one mentioned anything about “340 horsepower”. Supra’s were never rated at 340horsepower. In NA it was 320 and in Japan 280hp

I had an 1985 Toyota MR2 and I loved that car. Never had to put any money into it and I bought it used with about 40000 miles. Had to give it up when the kids came. It drove like a go cart and was a lot of fun. Wish I would have been able to keep it. Wonder what Scotty thinks of the mid engine sports car Toyota built?

I agree. In-line 6 engines are kings. Good balance of power, weight, and potential. Though I don’t have a 2JZ, BMW’s M50B25 is almost the same. The M50 is like Germany’s attempt to making a 2JZ. Both have their pros and cons like anything in life.

The only really true Toyota Supra that was really elegant and defined as a very great for car was it 86 1/2 even the turbos were 6.7 seconds. Pre-dawn spunky not only that but it had the addition of the sport roof which really made it a really truly unique car

Hey Scotty, do you know that Lotus has been using Toyota engines for a few generations of their sports cars. Their Evora are using the reliable Camry 3.5L engine albeit with a supercharger. Nice manual gearboxes and I guess easy to service (I would not know). More drivable and fun than the monster above. LOL.

the Supra turbo had 320 bhp. Not sure why he keeps saying 340. the only way i remember that is because the 3000gt vr4 upgraded to a 6 speed and 320bhp to compete with it.
