It really is the best SUV ever. It saved my families life when we had a major winter storm, and power was out for nearly a week, burst water pipes throughout the city, and every single store/building was completely closed, including gas stations, restaurants, grocery stores. When we were low on food and water supplies and firewood, and our water bottles began to freeze INSIDE our bedrooms, we loaded up our 4Runner with my family and pets, whatever essentials we needed, and headed south to our parents home to escape the storm. It miraculously made it, plowing throw snow, passing abandoned crashed vehicles along a mostly empty and depressing highway. Yeah, you may never need a 4Runner, or 4WD, but when you need it, you really wish you had it. Thankful for such a capable and reliable vehicle.

4Runner story: back in the day when we were living in Afghanistan, my brother in law wanted to go from one city to another (we don't have any quality roads or highways in there). he was driving a 4runner like this. he went there and when he was returning he noticed that a river on this way (from one city to another) had recently flooded. he had to either wait for days or try to cross the river somehow, he decided to cross it in his 4runner which he did. but the water had broken inside the cabin of the car to the point where his knees were submerged in the water but somehow he managed to pull it off. Man you have to living in a harsh environment to fully appreciate the spirit in these vehicles (land cruiser, 4runner, surf). 4runner is a warrior

I feel so nostalgic seeing this. My first car was a 97 4Runner. It looked almost exactly like this one. I flipped 4-5 times in the car in a freak accident, and I walked out of the car. Only 2-3 small bruises from the seat belt breaking. I bet it’d still be running great today if it hadn’t gotten totaled by that accident. I LOVED that car! 😊💕

Owned a 2000 4Runner for 19 years. The engine was fine exactly what Scotty says is spot on. I live in a very high salt use area in the north east. You could not kill the engine. It was not drive by wire back then it was cable driven. Never garaged. The inside still looked new did not wear at all. The only reason I had to give it up was because the frame rotted out. I think 19 years is a great run. No major repairs. Transmission was a beast along with the engine. Great job Scotty, great job Toyota.

I bought it new and it now has 257,000 miles on it and he still runs, drives and looks like new. I've always stayed on top of regular oil changes and preventative maintenance and had the timing belt changed twice. It's never broken down on me or left me stranded. NOT ONCE. Not even so much as a flat tire. The ac has always blown ice cold since the day I bought it. I often get compliments on it from complete strangers. I recently drove it from my home central Florida to the Smokey Mountains towing my utility trailer full of camping gear and a weeks worth of firewood. It performed flawlessly. My first was a matrix 1.8 engine that thing was bullet proof..I've owned cars from the big 3 they sucked. Then I traded the Matrix for a awd highlander for towing a small travel trailer..... My next SUV will most likely be a 4 runner or a Tacoma but I'm not a truck guy.... seams that a Tacoma is slightly cheaper than a 4runner tho.

@@Timeforchangenow just know the 4runner drives a bit like a truck, make sure you test drive it good before buying
