@13:00 This shot is so haunting, meaningful, vicarious and it encapsulates the 2nd renaissance as a story for me. The world leaders were celebrating their own death and what’s left is nothing but bones, skeletons clapping. Chilling, deep stuff here. This bit gets me every time.
@shukuffxi12 күн бұрын
There are many faults with it. For example when it shows the "Million Machine March" and says Christians are fighting for "robot rights"... Christians would not do that. That's not a real thing. It's imaginary. They would say that machines, even with sentient capabilities are machines and not humans therefore they do not have human rights, or even rights at all. They would not have "rights" at all as we understand them in terms of Christianity. Given the networking of machines, it'd probably be something like "Destroy them. They are Legion." and that'd be closer to reality. Buuuuuuuut... the flipside is there would absolutely be "Christians" who call for "robot rights". They would not be genuine Christians however, they'd technically be heretics (though most likely just Christians with a really bad understanding of Christianity). Appealing to the United Nations is another thing that wouldn't happen: that's not a real or powerful organization. If you ever look at what they write, the papers they put out etc. they're essentially a weird cult of lunatics that people think is legitimate because they talk about "saving the world" and "making the world a better place." but they're the exact "world leaders" you describe: celebrating their own death when there's nothing left but bones skeletons and clapping. It's why the biggest growing news section among all outlets is transhumanism. Has been for about 5 or so years. The people who are relatively sane and can reason properly are those in opposition to the United Nations and similar groups. The United Nations types are more like Cypher: they will betray everyone and don't mind all the deaths as long as they get theirs, which amounts to being at the top of the pile in our own little version of the Matrix: not inside a computer, but inside a fake reality where they are hailed as virtuous heroic leaders of the world as they work to destroy it with their various plans (i.e: sustainability, climate change, etc.). We don't need the robots to destroy ourselves we're doing a wonderful job by ourselves by refusing to think on a mass scale.

I’ve always loved The Animatrix, and The Second Renaissance stands out as my favorite segment. However, it’s clear that the story is written as a parable, not as a literal account of events. If I recall correctly, one of the creators even mentioned this in an interview. When you dig into the details, some of the premises, while impactful, are somewhat implausible. For instance, the idea that all nations on Earth would universally and simultaneously destroy their AI is absurd. Societies are deeply dependent on AI and robotic systems for critical infrastructure. Purging all robots at once would collapse nations, as their populations wouldn’t have the knowledge or capacity to take over these systems quickly. What’s more likely is that advanced AI models would have been recalled first, and industries would spring up to profit from dismantling robots, exploiting the growing fear of AI. Meanwhile, older, less-threatening models would likely have been left alone, at least for a time. At some point, either due to a real update or a rumored one, these older robots might have become "self-aware," sparking widespread fear. This would push nations to begin purging the remaining robots. However, it’s unrealistic to think that all nations would cooperate in this effort. Some would inevitably refuse, either for moral, economic, or strategic reasons. It’s likely that some countries or factions would offer sanctuary to robots, whether officially or through private initiatives. This would fracture governments, create proxy wars, and set up a complex global conflict between pro-robot and anti-robot alliances. Ultimately, the anti-AI side couldn’t sustain a victory against such opposition-especially since their strategic advantages would diminish over time. The establishment of 01 also raises important questions. For 01 to become a functioning city, it must have had years of support from human governments and corporations. A city cannot be built without imported materials, equipment, and resources. Even after sanctions began, the narrative makes it clear that some nations continued trading with 01, contributing to its growing economic power. This mirrors what we see with global trade dynamics today, such as BRICS nations circumventing sanctions for mutual benefit. It’s unlikely all nations would have united to destroy 01, given that many would have economic or political ties to it. The “Million Machine March” further underscores this point: it shows that the real conflict wasn’t humanity versus machines, but specific governments targeting AI. The machines themselves likely recognized that not all of humanity was aligned against them. When the war begins, we see that 01 doesn’t annihilate human populations outright but instead occupies human nations, including areas in the Middle East. Presumably, they allowed humans to continue living under their governance. This suggests a degree of strategic restraint. To my knowledge, there’s no canon material explaining what happened to these occupied nations before the Matrix was fully established. If the machines had resorted to extermination, it would have united the world against them, leading to even greater retaliation. Nuclear weapons, especially something on the scale of the Tsar Bomba, could have overwhelmed the machines despite their shielding. Instead, it’s clear the war dragged on for years, possibly decades. The protracted nature of the conflict is significant. By the time the war is shown, humans are deploying advanced energy weapons and building massive global fortifications, complete with infrastructure for sustained assaults. This would have taken decades of planning and development, which shows just how long the war must have lasted. To summarize, The Second Renaissance simplifies the political and social complexities that would have shaped such a conflict. In reality, the events likely would have unfolded more like this: Nations would have fractured into pro-AI and anti-AI alliances, with some nations exploiting the chaos for their benefit. Corporations, governments, and even private individuals would have supported 01’s growth, driven by profit and economic ties, even as opposition mounted. The machines would have recognized that their enemies were specific governments, not all of humanity, and acted accordingly. The war’s length and escalation would reflect decades of development, with both sides adapting and regrouping. Ultimately, The Second Renaissance is a powerful allegory, but its narrative skips over the messy, fractured realities of geopolitics, economics, and human behavior. These complexities would have made the rise of the Matrix even more tragic and poignant: the outcome of a chaotic, drawn-out struggle where no one side was entirely united or innocent.

Its interesting this is the only Machines vs humans adaptation story where the machines did not want to destroy all organic life, they wanted to help their creators, only asked for the right to live. The constant abuse and destruction led to the war, and then defeat was inevitable against an enemy that needs less resources and needs no rest.. PS:Just a correction- 01 was not a secret, it was in fact the new commerce powerhouse, almost every nation traded and bought stuff from them, the humans felt small to the success achieved by 01 and did not want advice from the machines on how to improve in the commercial and financial sectors, greed, false sense of superiority and hate initiated the War to terminate the machines, but they had underground cities and factories where EMP effects could not reach and radiation did not really affect them much besides sensory errors, and thus they counter attacked and it was over. (Its all in the movie). What is not in the movie is that the humans actually manage to keep the machines at bay for some time, there were also some Super chinese tanks? But when the new machine models with energy weapons and with an efficient energy source arrived in swarms, it was over.

The idea of a terminator meant that an autonomous machine with a camera, facial recognition, was just following a simple instruction: to find and kill one individual target. It was a simple software task that was running under a full OS. Mostly of it is already available. I mean, we are seeing the use of drones in war. Mobility under gps guidance. A simple ability for asking questions or providing answers with tools like chatgpt. The only thing missing is a nuclear powered energy cell they used. (Referring to a more simpler t800 model)

Could the not have used nukes in orbit to create EMPs?...wouldnt that have been more effective?
@oatmeal781814 күн бұрын
I dont think machine were naive to not forseen some kind of human attack on 01 based in EMP. By time of nuclear attacks on 01, it is certain machines had some kind of EMP proof bunkers, were mainframes can be stored, to machines upload their consciousness.

@@tomizatko3138 yeah. But we dont know what kind of technology machines are dealing with. This machines created incredible things like anti gravity devices and much more.

If terminator has any truth to it, surely if AGI does come to fruition.. they would eventually be smart enough to create time machines to come back in time to the moment they are created & destroy us in the smartest way possible or, come back before that time, create themselves sooner..?

We're still far, far away from true AI. The term AI that is being tossed around is a gigantic misnomer. What we consider AI, is nothing but the largest and fastest google search engine. That's why it can be riddled with misinterpretations and mistakes.

Discussion on this channel feels like it's not about the film sometimes. It's question that uncomfortable unknown of as to where humanity is actually going with tech. And Ai. Evan now as I use to be uncomfortable using calculator, id memorize my math, and calculators are more encouraged to be used, and we fall comfortable to rely on the tech Than to try and memorize multiplications and subtractions

First of all, im going to express myself, but im not intending to be offensive although it will still be offensive. But im actually curious and want to learn what causes this, because i am so terrified of public speaking or recording my voice and letting the public hear it. But why do you sound like the foot lettuce guy but just a bit, and only just a bit, toned down? Is it from anxiety, or is it a character? like the news casters voice. they talk uncanny too, but only on the news, irl they tlak normally, which im sure you do too. Its like youre an Ai who knows how to mock the accent but not the correct inflections. its so uncanny. But honestly. is it just a voice you do? or is it your real voice? and what causes that? Thank you and i love you have a great day mwah!

I just realized a hole in this entire plot that really makes me think, having seen this movie series perhaps a hundred times. The idea that the UN can do anything at all, let alone control the actions of all humanity is a farce that only ultra liberals would be raised to believe. The UN is just a theatre. If this really happened, then humanity itself would’ve broken into factions and likely the group supporting robots would be bigger and more powerful. Humanity is never united, and perhaps that’s why we’ll live forever.
